I re-watched the Lord of the Rings again recently and they really are a breath of fresh air in their earnestness compared to today's Marvel-filled world. Not a hint of irony about them. It's nice. Also, Viggo Mortensen is the coolest guy in the world

What happened to Gareth Edwards that got him put in movie jail? Was it Rogue One? Because it still made a billion dollars and the aesthetic he created in that movie seems like it was copied going forward.

But it stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Edward Norton, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bryan Cranston, so it at least has a stacked cast going for it. Sam Rockwel, not Ed Norton, but basically. Also, Henry Cavill’s hair looks ridiculous.

It purported to be what Andy saw in 1995 that made him want the toy, but so much of the film's subtext is wrapped up in it being a story about Buzz as a toy. Like, the whole thing about Buzz staying the same while everyone around him ages, or including a duplicate of the character within the narrative are the kind of things you only think of if you're already thinking of the character as a toy. The whole time I was wondering, “Why is this a little kid’s favorite movie?”

The Rock being his action hero self around a bunch of children is such a good idea and I'm baffled that he couldn't see it. Arnold did it and everyone loved it!

It’s funny because all the apes are played by somewhat recognizable actors but you’d never be able to guess who they are and then Bad Ape shows up and you immediately think, “Oh hey that’s Steve Zahn.”
