Writing excuse plots for the international murder cop series is hard. Sometimes you confuse it with parodies of itself because you don’t understand why anyone wants to keep doing this.

A modern X Files would have the government give up on covering things up. Just nobody cares. So what if werewolves eat a town. A swarm of contrarian grifters will say actually that’s good and the government will use that as an excuse to do nothing.

New X Files has the agents pressuring teenage aliens into abducting humans.

They could do the ghost effects with tissue paper and fishing line. Their target audience is people who will watch anything with the relevant IP branding.

Hollywood Akira will never not be funny. Watching an incredibly animated film and thinking you can make it yours without any of the defining characteristics, just copying the title and some plot points. Same can be said of most remakes but the scale of effort required to potential results for Akira is the funniest.

Only origin movies. An origin movie for the hero. Then an origin movie for the hero’s parents. Then for the parents’ parents and so on. The past is fully owned intellectual property. No one owns the future so it will never be allowed to exist.

SNL just exists to suck up oxygen and prevent anything from new from being created in the same space.

All the marvel movie budgets read like extreme money laundering situations. Like the marvels cost 240 mil? Yea nah, I saw the movie. Theres not 240 million dollars in that flick. A quarter of the movie takes place in Kamala's house and they dont even go outside to greater new jersey or whatever.

Cinematic universes are appealing to studios because they can rearrange the costs and profits of multiple productions however they like because they are all linked.

I hadn't really let that sink in since I haven't seen most of the latest Marvel movies, but they did kind of lose the bit of strength they had where the side moves had their own flavor. Ant-Man was a superhero heist movie. Captain America mixed in spy stuff. Guardians was loving around with Star Wars/Sci-Fi plots. Now they all drifted into samey CGI fights with a bunch of multiverse stuff.

Superhero comics were a version of content laundering before AI. Just take whatever is popular, coat it with comic book tropes, and pass it off as something original and new. Superhero movies are now feeding off other superhero movies and the results aren’t pretty.

In retrospect, the second movie's fight on the wheel is sort of a metaphor for how the entire 3rd movie went: really impressive from a technical standpoint, obviously a ton of work went into it, but drat if it's just not a lot of rigamarole around nothing. Forgive my pun here but so much of the third movie feels like wheel-spinning and elaborate quintuple fakeouts over nothing.

The wheel is where I gave up on the series. Just a profoundly clear statement that they had nothing but weren't going to stop.

Disney's strategy seems to be to grab any up and coming directors with a success or two and subsume them into the machine

The strategy is not to make good movies but instead prevent anyone else from making good movies.

White supremacy is the foundation of capitalism. When the rate of profit inevitably declines, they always go back to basics.

Ok, let’s just say disrupting class solidarity so only the bourgeoisie can benefit from it is a structural requirement. White supremacy, with its ever shifting definition of white, is the tool used by the current order and its logic is inescapable within that framework.
