I’m 35 years old, I’ve tried every different type of career and I can say without a doubt the happiest time of my life was in 2020 where I got paid to sit on my rear end and do nothing. I’m apparently only “passionate” about doing whatever I want, when I want. Am I mentally ill or something? Why are careers framed as “passions” when you’re literally just slaving away for some other rear end in a top hat? Is it so wrong to want to relax?

but for real, i spent about 5 years doing field work for an engineering firm during which I was only home for maybe 5 days a month. it was incredibly taxing and it ruined my psyche and relationships. so don't do that.

This worked for me in nursing for about 20 years.

Now, not only do I hate working, I hate my career and my patients and I'm leaving it entirely in a couple of months

my uncle was a cpd homicide detective and even though he retired 20 years ago, he still does cold case research for the dept "for fun". but his brain got broken in vietnam so, i'm not sure that's a great example.

Yeah I gotta say, my job is loving miserable and after interacting with everyone else at my job, I know I'm not the only one who's miserable.

Yeah I think the biggest hurt about my job is seeing that I do poo poo and never see any monetary gain from actually doing the poo poo I'm doing. It's just a constant mediocre pay no matter how hard you work and what you accomplish, but I guess I'm supposed to feel good when I see the CEO get a shiny new car at the end of the year. Capitalism doing what it does best, killing your soul.

Son, I am disappoint.
If you do what you love for work, you'll never work a day in your life, until you fall out of love with that thing because it was never that great to begin with and you decide you love producing gay porn a lot more. in which case your life becomes a hellscape of frustration and regret with Twink porn at the chewy center of it.

And then your wife finds out.

i'd like my job a whole lot more if i wasn't micromanaged to death in it. there should not be an issue in having a goddamn gutenberg pulled up on one of my monitors to read when theres not a single task to be seen to, but no let's hound the glorified receptionist to stare at the wall. it isn't professional to read you see.

if i can't even handle this poo poo, there's no way i could climb the corporate ladder without trying to strangle myself on one of the rungs

No it's not normal. There are two kinds of people. The ones who hate their job and are miserable about it all day and the ones who make work fun. Used to freeze in place at JC Penny and pretend I was a mannequin during the downtime. Was fun for everyone.

Hustle bro culture rules because every time they mention a get rich quick scheme it boils down to “take advantage of a glorified slave”.

Like Andrew Tate telling people to sign their younger cousins up to run Uber shifts and then just gently caress them out of their pay.

the "freest' i ever felt was working in an intense manual labor job that was highly in-demand and paid well. 55-60 hours a week just flew by and in the in between times i was full of energy and actually enjoyed the simple things and my life. and though i saw some people had more free time for their hobbies than me, i knew they were weaklings and manager-brained educated morons trying to fill the void that i didn't have

now i have a job that actually does provide reason to be passionate, or its creative enough i guess you can say. it twists the concept of work a little bit sometimes, so im pretty much a workaholic cripple still.
