It's honestly pretty fantastic how well the material has aged compared to other stuff from the same time, particularly internet-based media. Here's a good example! brianrietta It would have been so easy and pretty normal for the time for the punchline of this email to be Strong Bad being disgusted by the fact that a man expressed attraction to him. Instead the punchline is Strong Bad being so enamored with the flirting that he does not register the person's name until like half a second into the response, and then some silly attempts to conceive of how "Brian" might possibly be the shorted form of a feminine name. He concludes by letting the sender down in a gentle, but incredibly self-aggrandizing way. Like most of the really early sbemails, it's not that funny, but it is a comedic sketch about a straight guy responding to a come-on from a gay guy in a way that frames it as both normal and perfectly fine. I was going to say this was rare at the time, but it's actually still rare, just less so. Wow that was 21 years ago O_o Speaking of come-ons, here is a good toon. Very rare depiction of an actual attempt at romance by any H*R character, also rare Homestar + Strong Bad team up. Date Nite Oh! Also here's another great sbemail. your friends You got it!

A long time ago, about 20ish years ago, there was this guy in our group chat that would basically only communicate with quotes from Homestar Runner and while at the time it got slightly annoying, I felt a huge wave of happy nostalgia when I heard from him again just last year. My introduction to Homestar Runner was Guitar Hero of all things, as Trogdor was a bonus track in Guitar Hero II and this was in Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s, the largely forgotten spinoff Harmonix quickly threw together to fulfill their contract with Activision before moving on to Rock Band. Genuinely one of the best songs in that game, which was full of actual 80s bangers (or at least soundalike covers of said bangers). I still have my copy of Strong Bad Sings and Other Type Hits somewhere. I'd go find it and rip it, but looks like it's also on Spotify now.  As far as non-musical Homestar things go, I say "Everything is fine. Nothing is ruined." surprisingly often.
