Another block of shows spanning two months, that do be how it goes. And I would have put Kelsea Ballerini in the title if there had been room. I considered trying to combine Travis Kelce and Kelsea Ballerini but that brilliant bit of wordplay will have to wait until next week. Before we get on to the new, a bit of the old. This was posted to Twitter earlier this week but only just went up on yt yesterday.

Tonight we get an exceedingly-rare double five timer induction, as this is both Woody and Jack's fifth time! Although technically Jack's first was in the White Stripes, i think he gets the jacket anyway. Here's yet another neat graphic of the other double five timers from your nerd friends at the SNL Network

And your Wednesday read-through photos

I know Trump and Cold Opens are similarly tired but I was really enjoying this week's cold open until the jury foreman thing came in.

I really thought they were just gonna let JAJ spout cultural references for five minutes and be done with it.

Yeah, the foreman bit killed that sketch immediately.

But overall that was a solid episode. And it’s rare that the final sketch is that good, but I loving loved the Fancy Gym sketch.

Weird moment at the end of the monologue, though. And I don’t buy that Woody wasn’t high at the start, despite what he said. He was flubbing lines more at the start than he was at the end. But who gives a poo poo, more power to him on that front. But the anti-vax comments were weird as hell. I doubt they were planned.

I was kinda meh on the episode as a whole but then again I loved the boat naming sketch and the whale sketch. Like, the boat sketch was great because the timing was just impeccable. The Whale thing was simple but sold so well.

Good episode, lots of bold sketches. I don't care about football and this guy struck me as a bit of a bro but he's charismatic and funny in pretty much every sketch.

I liked the cold open, it was nice to see James Austin Johnson doing something other than a Trump impression. And even Keenan seemed confused that they were doing an OJ Simpson joke in 2023.

This 'American Girl Cafe' sketch was a powerful opener.

'Straight Male Friend' was hilarious.

Weekend Update was really strong except for this bit with Mikey and Punkie, which was dogshit. Sarah Sherman's news bit was excellent.

I've seen pretty much every athlete-hosted episode since Wayne "I'm Bad At This, But I'm Good At Hockey" Gretzky, and this is the best one since Peyton Manning's much-underrated episode. These things are usually turds, and the only thing you can hope for is that it's hot poo poo in a champagne glass instead of cold diarrhea in a Dixie cup. Either way, it's poop.

This one was pretty drat funny. They put their non-actor host in roles where he couldn't screw things up for the most part, but the way he carried the American Doll Or Whatever sketch was actually pretty drat good. He was all-in on that cringe-as-gently caress role. I just wish the fake tears bit had worked in that last sketch.

I was happy with this episode. Even the low-rent Digital Short was pretty drat entertaining.

I dunno, this episode felt like a dud to me. Kelce was a decent enough performer, but a lot of the sketches felt weirdly half-formed, with missing endings or weird pacing or concepts that just didn't pay off.

And PDD still isn't working for me - their whole "we're so sad and pathetic" shtick just comes across as annoying, and it makes the sketches feel repetitive and predictable.

I'd thought the season was on an upswing with the Plaza/Jordan/Pascal episodes, but the last couple of episodes have sunk it back down again.

Seeing the Update from '15 a few hours earlier shows how little things have changed in eight years. I see signs of change here and there, but I'm waiting for Lorne to retire for things to really shake up.

That... is a bad date to pick for a strike. I mean... I get it, and I hope they get what they're wanting, but... seriously, announcing that they are striking on April 1st? Seriously? Nobody sees a problem with this? Nobody heard this date and said, "You know, if we announce this, lots of folks might not believe us."?

Agreed, waiting one more day would have maybe been a good idea. That being said, April 1st is a Saturday, and it's Saturday Night Live, so...

Anyway, whatever day it starts, I hope they give management hell.

Also, I loving hate April Fool's Day.

... March 25th would've been nicer. More urgent.

Of course, it might be all logistics. I don't know because I haven't looked it up, but there might not be a new episode before April 1st during which they can strike, and the season might end too soon after April 1st for their strike to be meaningful.

Yeah, I think the OP of this thread even says March 11th is the last March episode, unless it's just incomplete. But I don't think it is. And when that's true, to your urgency point, why wait?
