CBDCs do not mean there will no longer be physical banknotes and their implementation, if and when it comes, will probably be totally unnoticed by most users of currency except that it will be slightly more convenient to do electronic transfers in countries like the us which don’t already have nationalized systems for that

Hasn't crypto started rapidly go out of fashion after the FTX debacle?

a central bank digital currency (CBDC), whatever it ends up being, won’t be crypto, won’t use a blockchain, won’t be mined, won’t be “untraceable” or “anonymous” or “irreversible” or any of the other things that make crypto appealing for scams, and won’t be different from fiat money as it currently exists except in technical details not relevant to the daily life of anyone except central bankers

Have to agree, I don't believe he loves authoritarians because they're other authoritarians. I would take some convincing to believe Trump is even intelligent and interested enough to understand the existence of the people he mentioned of his own volition rather than having it imposed on him by others. Like any good narcissist he would have been mirroring people around him and at some point those authoritarians ended up being important to the people around Trump. Probably a part of the whole "You're president now you dipshit, this is what presidenting is"

Once he had to start dealing with them, they all pegged him for exactly what he is and played him like a well-tuned fiddle. Novelty sized letters gushing with flattery come to mind.

Evacuations underway after freight train derails, catches fire in Minnesota

quote:

A freight train derailed in a fiery crash near a small town in Minnesota early Thursday, forcing residents to evacuate as a precaution, officials said.

The incident was reported at around 1 a.m. CT. Multiple tankers of a train operated by BNSF Railway derailed and caught fire on the western edge of Raymond, a town in Minnesota's southwestern Kandiyohi County that has a population of less than 800. The tankers were carrying "a form of ethanol" and "a corn syrup liquid," according to a press release from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.

BNSF spokesperson Lena Kent confirmed to ABC News that "approximately 22 cars" of a train "carrying mixed freight including ethanol and corn syrup" derailed near Raymond at 1:02 a.m. The company, one of the largest freight railroad networks in North America, is investigating the cause of the incident and, so far, there were no reported casualties, according to Kent.

"BNSF field personnel are responding to assess the derailment site and will be working closely with local first responders," Kent told ABC News in a statement Thursday. "The main track is blocked and an estimated time for reopening the line is not available."

Approximately 13 rail cars were carrying ethanol. Four train cars that are on fire contain ethanol, FEMA officials said Thursday.

a few days after a different train company decided to end its push for only one conductor per train. lol

Funny you want a counter. After the Ohio derailment I looked up how many derailments we get a year... in 2022 there were at least 1,164 derailments. DOT also reports that about 5,800 "train car collisions" occur a year as well.

Makes me think that infrastructure that pretty much runs the country is being held together by duct tape, hope, and general luck.

I'm fairly sure derailment can mean a single wheel popped off a rail all the way up to whole train came off and destroyed an orphanage, so while bad it's not as bad as all that.

I think OP specifically means using eg venmo to pay your dealer.

I know people that do this and, like, sure you're small fish but why lay a paper trail.
