Yeahhhhhh you might want to rethink that take.

Most of my colleagues who had to WFH and had kids (especially very young ones) went through a far worse hell than most as they ended up having to do work mostly when their kids were sleeping which basically gave them little / no time in the day to do anything but childrearing, homeschooling and work they had to get done once the child was asleep. It's put a lot of stress on their marriages and physical / mental health.

I don't think the bodyguards are there because of the Saudis. Musk wants to be the center of attention, he wants to be either adored or feared and he's got the charisma and physical intimidation of a garden snail. His next best play as the authoritarian he is is to surround himself with tough people to give the air of intimidation. Seems pretty simple and fits the details we are privy to observe so far imo.

I just fail to see how legalizing drugs would make for a friendlier nicer cartel. It just ends up rewarding them for waiting us out. The only thing I could see it is potentially a better outcome than the current system. But that's not even a guarantee. I don't even care about the legalizing drugs part I just don't like the idea of giving the keys to the cartels. What timescale would this even be looking at? For them to forego violence and human trafficking, etc...

Like others have said cartels have gone legit in other ways. Don't they basically run the avocado industry? I thought I read that years ago. Honestly not sure which is a bigger industry, avocados vs illegal drugs. It might not even be close for all I know. Has there been any noticeable shift towards more consumer specific corporate style enterprises versus what we obviously don't want? Have they shown any desire to want to go legit and just take advantage of capitalism vs people?

It's funny, I went to Yuma, AZ for a work trip this year and I asked the people I was working with about going across the border. He said they get monthly briefings on what has been going on but there are certain warnings like don't drive a nice car down there and try to stay in groups. Just some thoughts, if I'm wrong see my name.

Legalize the drugs, forbid import of said drugs from outside the USA to claim its for health reasons (like we forbid prescription ones from Canada). Then the opium producers in the US can shift to making and selling legal coke. Your 401k does better and we get to watch the poors flush their life down the tubes while making big bank for the healthcare companies that get permanent debtors.

Meanwhile the cartel moneystream dries up and it goes to big pharma instead.

Never really knew much about drag beyond "people crossdress" and never thought about it much one way or the other. Then during Covid my BIL and his husband stayed with us a few months because they all lost their jobs (NYC theatre / dance industry). Both of them are big into the drag scene there, not performers but always at the shows and support a lot of it / work with a lot of theatre folks that like to do it on the side.

After like 2 months of watching Drag Race with them I am convinced that Drag is basically another variation of pro wrestling. Call me crazy but it ticks the same boxes for me. Some athletic and some charismatic individuals (the best are both), overwrought drama, stage effects, etc. When I said this to my BIL he started laughing and was really like "ah yep that totally tracks".

I remember an NPR interview several years ago where a Nebraska libertarian state rep laid out beautifully how many executions the state had done in a decade vs the life in prison group.

Basically it was a pretty big financial savings just to not even suggest execution and cut the costs on all the mandated appeals etc. This was when the state was in dire need of budget cuts. So of course they kept the death penalty

I live near a christmas tree farm and we have heavy woods behind my property. We just buy a tree and chuck it in the forest or the river behind it and they break down over time, get colonized by mice, fungus birds in the woods what have you. Not the worst system imo. The folks running the xmas tree farm let the areas between the trees fill up with wildflowers etc during the warmer season and its turned into a breeding / nesting area for the local turkeys, a hunting ground for the hawks and is always full of bees and other pollinators. Pretty good imo.
