I haven't really encountered people throwing bombs at me too often. I did notice that they nerfed the rocket launcher so that it can't kill lights in one hit anymore which seems bad. I get that dying in one hit is annoying but lights are also annoying so in fairness they should also remove lights from the game.

ahh ok, I thought maybe it was a new temp thing like the win heavy cosmetics event at the moment.

I honestly haven't seen too many people doing that, I might occasionally slap a gas mine to a fire cannister to try to drop into a crowd. I had someone on my team try the c4 nuke the last time I played, but they had lovely aim and achieved exactly gently caress all doing it. Can't remember the last time I saw it before then.

it's particularly a thing in ranked or i guess higher mmr non-ranked. when people are playing to win it is way too good to not use

Patch 1.7.0 is out

It's mostly just buffing XP but they call out nukes and canisters being overpowered and claim they're working on a fix.

Gotta say the responsiveness and speed of how they get patches out is pretty refreshing.

I find that one good solution for nukes is to play grenade launcher medium and just turn anyone holding the things into a greasy smear

I played against a 3 medium team all using grenade launchers and wow they were annoying. Looked fun to play though, they quickly destroyed every light that even looked at them.

My point exactly. They take, in fact, very few grenades to take down if they are currently carrying a barrel with C4 on it.

I think I read on Reddit that it does, in my experience I can always get that challenge completed if I use a nuke vs. throwing a tank at someone. I've gotten hit markers from throwing a plain explosive tank at players and it won't register so C4 seems to help.

I will say - doesn't seem like there is one OP meta that I keep seeing over and over again, so balancing is working. I really wish they would do something with VRs to make them useful once you unlock everything.

Things are looking up...

The throwables really need to be more fragile to gunfire, especially if they are being 'held' or tossed.
If you could punish a heavy with a nuke by just blowing it up in his face with 1-2 shots, it'd alleviate a lot of the problem.
See: explosive barrels in HL2 for the perfect balance. Durable until shot or damaged in which case 1 bullet ignites them, 2 explodes them, explosive damage ignites them in an area.

I think the barrels having more durability than usual helps them feel more substantial gameplay-wise because otherwise people would definitely run through the map hitting every one they see with a bullet

Nuke problems largely goes away if your team is actively on the lookout for attackers.
Too many people are just waiting by the cashout (or close by) until the enemy team arrives, while they should be peeking through doors or windows etc.

If your team isn't seeing the heavy carrying a nuke up the street in Monaco long before he's in attacking range, that's kind of on you.

They just need to give the red canisters the same fix they gave nukes on everything else. It also doesn't help that the event mode basically made everyone who doesn't play heavy all the time more experienced with nukes since they are everywhere in there.

The self damage is high enough now that on fixed stuff you have to at least throw them a little carefully because if they land short you might instagib yourself.

as a heavy player, i love my nuke. and i think there is some balance to it because if you are running around with one there is a chance you will be instagibbed by your hubris if another player can land a good shot on it, which does happen to me a lot. but catching a heavy carrying a nuke requires a lot of risky positioning when you are defending a cash out.

i think making it extremely fragile after C4 is attached would be a good starting point of balancing it, just one bullet and kaboom. decreasing the damage it causes is probably gonna be the end result though.

starting to bounce off this game a bit, and apparently steam charts are showing a pretty significant player decline. but ironically if somebody irl asks me what i've been playing recently i will not shut the gently caress up about The Finals.

wondering if there is a chance for the game to have a rebound in interest and what it would take.

I actually kinda think that's the fix, really. It's not like the heavy doesn't already have enough "gently caress everyone in this general area" with the RPG.

Nukes are dumb and I hope they completely kill the idea one way or another. (preferably not by nerfing C4 into the ground, it's a really fun tool!) I have a suspicion that some designers at Embark are clinging onto this game mechanic in a misguided attempt to have an equivalent to the C4 jeeps that generated a lot of youtube clips for the Battlefield games. I get it, it's free marketing and you can point to it as this sort of iconic gimmick to sell your game to new players but they really need to kill their darlings on this one.

Apparently they're planning a big content and marketing push for season 2 in march so I expect them to deal with the issue fairly soon.

yeah i think this is likely what they need to do to balance it, that or give it some significant damage penalty against players but keep the structure damage because blowing open defenses is still pretty important, although a case can be made that it's too good at that, too. Simply making them easy to blow up fixes some issues but doesn't really address the issue on points that are deep within a building where you can't defend the point and defend the approaches at the same time

I'm curious what they will do because it's a weird thing to have in a game that is otherwise explicitly meant to be a very high ttk shooter, which does make it seem like there's some weird dev inertia keeping nukes around

briefly had the idea that the red canister could start veering off course much faster than it currently does but when i am nuked its almost always within arms reach of the nuker.

still, it could be funny to implement anyway.

140 or so damage is still a significant chunk of everyone's hp, especially as you don't really need to aim it.

idk what it is with game devs and making entire games around the idea of high ttk fps and then someone with veto power or some poo poo is like 'hey lets put this ridiculous one shot into it' and then the meta is defined by it because obviously a one shot is incredibly op in a high ttk game

good on them for changing it, fully expected this to be a blizzard situation where you just have to live with poor design forever

Nuke nerf is great. You can still kinda bounce a red canister nuke at an enemy team but it's much less reliable and slower as well. I imagine you'll still see it but only occasionally and not literally everytime you encounter a Heavy.

Recon was also just straight removed from the game and defib was nerfed "ish". A good good patch.
