Literally the greatest show on earth. I traveled so long and hard to reach the path of totality in 2017 and it was soooo worth it!!

There's a fun theory that at this point in history, because our moon and sun are both the same size (1/400th of the sky), that even super advanced aliens/UFOs would come visit to witness our perfect total eclipses.

The smoke-blocked sun in NYC reminded me of the eclipse today. I hadn't seen the sun as a perfect sphere since Aug 2017. I was even able to look for a second without sunglasses, a couple seconds with glasses (never good to stare, I constantly look away). I actually dug up a pair of my old ellipse glasses but the screens were damaged.

Probably a good idea to order some eclipse glasses now before the frenzy

PBS released this nice lil hype doc about the eclipse

Around 2 AM Monday I'm planning to leave nyc and drive north for hours towards Watertown. I'll check weather and environs when I'm close. I'm also not going to stress myself because it's a chill somber event.

FWIW I reached 2017 totality by driving overnight to Tennessee. Found a nearby campsite in the morning. The small town was crowded, lots of people directing lots of traffic. We ended up watching from a high school parking lot field with many others. Leaving the event was far worse--people arrive for days and all leave at once.

A lot of the warnings about traveling and booking places to stay is centered around families trying to stay indoors. If you're flexible, you're fine.

DEEP STATE PLOT posted:

the show in watertown was ok, it got cloudy but they thinned out a bit right before totality so we were able to see it through them a lot better than i actually thought we would only like 5 minutes prior

I couldn't find a spot in Watertown that clicked for me. Drove n scoped out Sackets, Adams, Henderson, Black Pond, and back to Watertown. Realized I couldn't be this close to a great lake and not take advantage. Found Westcott Beach State Park, stood right on the waterline, it was a perfect spot
