I'm watching Chernobyl for the first time.

I thought this was a horror movie (I mean it is kinda) but it's basically just the actual history of it. I thought it was like the Stalker game or something.

The movie called Stalker was the influence for the game.
Worth watching, not exactly horror, mostly extensional dread.

There was a GHOST here.
It's gone now.
Chernobyl is extremely good. If you wanna see a lot of the same cast, try The Terror S1. It is also extremely good. Other than one element that can be attributed to the state of the crew, it's also sursprisingly historically accurate given what info we had at the time.

The diving scene is transcendent.

Stalker is a film you need to be mentally prepared to watch prior.

Like I have still yet to watch Come and See, but I know that it isn’t going to be a laugh out loud gut buster.

Stalker movie is very good but yeah you need to be in the right frame of mind. Lots of long shots. It's a slow, contemplative film. It was based on Roadside Picnic, which is a good book you all should read.

Tartofsky also did Solaris, another slow moving but great film. I'm sure he did others but those are the ones I've seen

There are some pretty narrow definitions of horror that do it a disservice. Chernobyl is absolutely horror. A dude stares directly into the core of a melting reactor at gunpoint. Thats horror as gently caress.

God drat. If I ever get exposed to a high dose of radiation I'm offing myself immediately.

No loving way I'd go through that. He said morphine doesn't even work when your blood vessels start breaking down so it's just constant excruciating pain for days or even weeks.

Needs to meet a minimum number of jump scares to qualify for horror otherwise it's just people projecting. Art shouldn't be something ephemeral, it belongs in a neat box!

Alex Garland's Men was super good and very weird.

(Minor spoilers) it's about a woman dealing with the trauma of her ex's suicide. Other than her ex, every male character is played by the same actor.

Also last year's Midnight Mass was amazing. If you're an alcoholic (like me), it hits on a whole other level.

I loved the ending of Men. The whole movie was unsettling, but that ending was crazy
