The first few episodes actually made the infected more terrifying than the games and really unnerved me with how far they went with portraying what an infection is like. Though I will say the final half has literally two infected for a typical "surprise scare then the protagonist kills them" which was a bit of a drag. But the first half was really goddamned incredible in that regard and the showrunners promised more infected in the second season.
