Ah, stormbirds, there are many things to be said about them and one of them is "at least they aren't glinthawks" and I'll say that that's damning them with faint praise, they are by far the better fights, and easier in my book. Sylens is great and I like that Aloy and him don't actually gel that well, they just work together, he has those Banuk wire implants and they look weird in holovision and also still incredibly painful and infection prone.

Mug guy is the greatest and funniest, and future archeologist still do that "welp, I have no idea what it is so it's cultual now" thing. Mind you, actual modern ones are doing that less and less.

I likewise went in blind, and I'm a sysadmin by trade. When I heard that little discussion Faro had with the programmer about 'reasserting control' and the response that they couldn't I kind of oh-hosed.

And then you get those ads and realize that one of those got on the loose... And then Liz spells it out in case you missed the implications. Yeah, that'll do it.

Regarding Lance Reddick, his full acting resume should be on Wikipedia or IMDB. I haven’t seen all of it, but from what I have experienced- The Wire is great. So are Fridge & the Amazon series Bosch.

The talks at Rost’s grave are a great touch to game atmosphere, something I missed in the second Horizon game.

Since I recently finished the Forbidden West DLC, I've been catching up to this LP. Forgot how different combat was between the two games. I keep wondering why you are shooting elemental arrows after the enemies are affected by them since in the sequel they do nothing at that point.

I also recommend Fringe as a Lance Reddick show because it is also a really good show.

Ep. 29 I can't read maps

I waste time since I'm a dummy idiot who can't read maps or remember where I put Nil. To be fair, the last time we saw him a few episodes ago was recorded about a month before this episode.

Also, encounter with our last new machine in the base game! And I hate these guys so much!

Because I tend to button mash to raise the elemental state and the "stop shooting now" reaction doesn't happen fast enough  The only time doing that works is with Corruptors and Deathbringers, since even if they're already on fire shooting fire arrows makes their overheat meters go up to pop out their cores.

Ep. 31 Apocashitstorm Collection Tour Part 3: Sundom

Time for another collection video! The Vantage point I was going for is something I think you can technically get at this point in the game, but you do have to go by there for a late-game main quest so it makes sense to leave it for then. Especially since doing so means only going through Valley of Things That Want You Dead once.

The game will force you into the Erend storyline (and the Sona one before it) at certain points if you neglect them. I prefer the main storyline to both of them. Marad is a fun character, however. Perfect foil to Aloy. Avad is cool also. Like many players, I was miffed by what they did with Ersa.

Ep. 33a King of the Friend Zone (no commentary over cutscenes)

The conclusion to the Erend storyline, along with a bit of aimless wandering to try to get some components. I want to get a Nora Silent Hunter before I do the next hunting grounds, since it's stealth based and increased stealth stat will make it a bit easier. But alas, the RNG was not with me :( We're getting to the point of the game where grinding's required. At least there's component merchants so it's not that bad.

Ep. 34a Time to Book It (no commentary over cutscenes)

Do you like missions where you have to haul rear end while a bunch of things are shooting at you? Then you'll love this one!

These are actually my least favorite (that along with anything timed) since stressful. At least this one's short. Also, final Tallneck of the base game.

I actually found it refreshing that they didn't try to pair Aloy off with anyone, since these types of games tend to have some kind of romance plot.

The one thing I hate more than these are lengthy missions where you have to do this and also you (or worse, your escort target) are forcibly brought down to one-hit-kill.

There's a couple characters that definitely act interested, but Aloy is 1) young and 2) a bit clueless and 3) kind of very urgently busy...

“To Curse the Darkness” is an interesting mission. Starts out with stealth and combat, ends with the escape. Also note the info dump in the middle that fills us in on the Eclipse leader Helis. Before now, we only knew he killed Rost and not much else,

Completing this mission unlocks the palace in Sunfall (northwest part of map). Going there beforehand will see Aloy turned away by the focus- equipped guards.

Escort missions are up there among the worst type. Getting flashbacks to when I used to play the original Guild Wars, and the first several story quests past the tutorial area involve escorting a character that loves to rush into mobs and leading to mission failure since he's not exactly tanky.

My first playthrough I just kind of sat there like whoa after this sequence and it's still my favorite part of the game. The game starts kind of slow burn-y but it's very good at set up and payoff, and this is where we get a whole lot of payoff.

This plot is indeed awesome. I like how the AI both worships Elizabeth and is willing to contradict her regarding Hades. Sobeck vs. Faro is also well written, as coop52 noted. Aloy & Sylens get good dialogue too, as does Hellis.

Hope you will do the side missions in Sunfall at some point. They’re fun and should have been plot mandatory IMO.

Man, the VA for Brad Andac did a hell of a job. The guilt - and even more, the wonder - in his voice as he describes how he helped build the Chariot line, and how long he's been carrying that guilt ever since it came out what had happened...

Jurassic Park of all things actually phrases it succinctly: "Scientists were so busy wondering whether they could to ask themselves whether they should."

There's a... tendency, I suppose is the kindest way to describe it... for people who are sufficiently good and creative to fall in love with the complexity and ambition of a project to the point where they'll blind themselves to the moral and ethical implications. It's hard to put to words, but Mr. Andac described it very eloquently.

Agreed, the characters in the datapoints could have been pretty forgettable but they managed to do a good job making them stick and conveyed the complex feelings surrounding the situation pretty well. Brad was definitely one of the better ones.

Ep. 39 The One With All The Multitasking

Sorry for the delay. I was out on vacation (which I really needed) and went to edit the next video only to find that the audio was hosed up/out of sync, which apparently can happen with Elgato cards. It took me a minute to get the settings right and rerecord, hopefully no more issues with the LP.

Anywho, time to finish the blood dude side quest while taking care of some others at the same time! Redmaw is a nice capstone to the Hunter's Lodge story-line. Glinthawks are bit more annoying to me due to sheer volume and frequency. Rockbreakers have a part their back that has a damage multiplier on it which will kill them pretty quickly, provided you can hit it.

The Stealth Hunting Grounds are my favorite. Frustrating challenges to kill Watchers undetected, then you get to drop that for speed looting of crates (after you sneak to the first one, takes me about a few tries to pinpoint locations each time) and Stalker elimination. I too am a big fan of the ending. If Jesus refused to accept worship, I might be more into him. Maybe that’s just me. I definitely appreciate the attitude from Aloy.

This video shows off one of two Corrupted Thunderjaws in the game. Hope we can see the other soon.

I do appreciate the confirmed deaths of various Nora you can see as you approach All Mother Mountain. Most of the tribe survives, but not the guy who sold you your first Tripcaster or the lady warrior who directs you to the path out of the Embrace. You can find their bodies in appropriate places. No other specific deaths of which I’m aware, but this is enough to remind the player war is hell.

One more thing you didn’t show off. If Aloy keeps talking to the old hag Lansra after being crowned as “Anoited”, she encourages Lansra to try keeping her eyes open and her mouth shut. The results have to be seen to be believed.
