Poland and Hungary have blocked imports of cheap Ukrainian grain and food imports as local farmers can't compete with the prices. Part of the problem is logistics, EU really should invest in Eastern Poland the logistical chains that are needed to replace the capacity of lost or destroyed Ukrainian ports so that there are more options than just dumping everything in the neighbourhood.

There was something very suspicious about the grain situation. What was being claimed by the Polish government was that it was supposed to be imported into Poland via a simplified procedure and stored in silos until exports to Africa and Asia were organized. It the turned out that the grain started appearing on the market and was sold as “technical grain” - supposedly a lower grade product for non-agricultural use, allowing for uncontrolled sales at dumping prices. Who sold this? How controlled the silos? Nobldy knows, as there was zero government oversight over the silos.

Since this was an EMB jet, isn’t Brazil required to join the investigation? I’m not sure if the same rules apply to private and commercial flights.

It sounds similar to what Russian agents caught in Poland were doing. They're usually people with some connection to Russia, tasked with mostly recon around military bases and transport links to them. In Poland, they've set up a video recording system for rail shipments. In this case, it seems their mission was particularly tasked with US military resources.

I believe pre-invasion Ukraine suffered from huge corruption issues and I suspect those issues are lingering even now. If you compound that with a war that does not look like it's going to end and western allies who are dragging their feet providing basic conventional weapons like artillery shells and air defense, I can see why a lot of young men aren't jumping up and down to get thrown into another Bakhmut.

Ukraine and its military are all a horrible, corrupt mess, as anyone who’s been there since the war kicked off will attest. It’s the end result of two decades of Russia’s corrupt influence and no real reforms. Right now it’s a shell of a country, with all (and few) resources going towards the army and defending themselves from a Russian nazi invasion. And you’re right, the terrible dilemma many Ukrainians are having is if it’s actually worth dying for. Some have never gotten anything back from the country. Many living in the EU have not stepped foot as adults in it and they’re expected to fight for it. It’s a lovely, messy situation.

Russia is winning so hard it needs to cluster-bomb a city park on a warm afternoon. How do you even begin to justify this poo poo? Upcoming victory day?
