I get this funky high on the yellow sun.

It's right there in black and white

THE SHOW

I legitimately find it hard to describe Lemonparty without comparing it to Cum Town, so take that to heart. What riffs are to Cum Town, dumbass stories and targeted internet harassment are to Lemonparty. Lemonparty is three dumb guys either involved in or adjacent to standup just in a room in LA, releasing both audio and video episodes that are high quality watching. Overall highlights are:
  • Knowledge of old old O&A content / a deep and undying reverence for Louis CK and Patrice
  • Relentlessly making GBS threads on mid to low tier YouTube "personalities" who deserve your derision
  • Slurs as far as the eye can see
  • Having Ian Fidanance and Matt McCusker on as their only guests thus far
  • Two dogs that cause havoc on many episodes (including biting Ian on the face)
  • South park voice

THE HOSTS

Ben Avery is sober, but we won't hold that against him. He's said that if they break 100k patrons he'll break his sobriety and also they'll say the n-word on the regular episode. Ben was the producer on the Tim Dillon Show, and left under shrug circumstance and well the proof is in the pudding (I like stupid charts and graphs and will not apologize):

Jace Avery is Ben's brother and he's BIG AS poo poo. The two of them grew up in Texas, so they have lots of content to mine from growing up Christian in a small town. Like why did they spell the name of that one African country wrong?

Devan Costa: part Syrian / part Italian / all Los Angeleno. He grew up in LA and also hosts another podcast called Hate Watch which I haven't seen but will give him the benefit of the doubt that it's decent which is loving awesome and now has its own section in the OP. You always know it's his voice by him saying what's he's laughing at through the laughter.

They also have a couple of sketches

Please listen and post so that I can talk to other people about it, someone it's even worse to say to a friend "have you listened to Lemonparty" than "have you listened to cumtown"

=======================================================================

Closing in on a year since I made the OP, and I'm happy to report that Hate Watch is as good as (if not sometimes better) than Lemonparty. Stealing from someone in another thread, "Lemonparty and Hate Watch have been surprisingly therapeutic for me, watching bros support one another, overcome past trauma, and combat alcoholism" and it's very much two sides of the same coin. Lemonparty is defined by Ben and Jace continuing to deal with their mental illness but still being intelligent and wanting to evolve to be healthy. Hate Watch takes a different approach by being absolutely unrepentant dirtbags who will savagely ridicule each other but then hug it out and say they love eachother before the camera shuts off. These are people who say they want to be 80 years old and still best friends in an applebees where one of them calls a waitress "sugartits" as a bit and everyone cringes while they were just wrapping up laughing so hard they're pissing off other people in the restaurant. It's the kind of relationship I hope I have with my friends when I'm old as gently caress.

THE SHOW
Like the name implies, they watch Youtube videos and riff on them. Lemonparty definitely borrows heavily from the Hate Watch DNA, but the vibe is very different and they hit on a wide variety of poo poo (while still going to the Will and Dawn well). You can watch audio only, but for sure the video adds to this. Some highlights (both videos and recurring bits):
  • A multi-episode deep dive on the Johnny Depp / Amber Heard accusations and trial (more on that down below)
  • A full show where they watch Gringo Papi and just rip it apart
  • Stories about Devan's hosed up father and uncle
  • Joey calling in a real bomb threat to a law office and claiming "no, it'd be a $500 fine max. And no the show isn't liable for anything"
  • Devan getting called a gay otter
  • Voices such as "The Tug It Guy" who finds you at a crackerbarrel and wants to give you gravy, and Ramon the gay mexican laborer that's different from the cumtown one (not sarcasm, Ramon is much more confrontational and ASKS to get his rear end hosed)

THE HOSTS
Devan Costa: self explanatory, he's much more in his element here and they record the show (I think) in his house
Joey Lafleur: if you watched one of the Lemonparty livestreams where they had a guest on who had a katana and sliced his finger wide open and you saw tons of blood . . . that's Joey. He's absolutely insane and has a crazy high manic energy all the time. He's for sure the catalyst of a bunch of their shenanigans. Supposedly had his apartment broken into by some LA serial killer
John: . . . where to loving begin. John has know Devan since Catholic school and is a complete mess half the time. A bartender in/near Union Station, the man has been through some poo poo. There was a saga about him getting evicted which I haven't fully gotten to and apparently he then lived in a WeWork for a while and was pissing in buckets because I guess the bathrooms lock overnight? He's so broken, but the love with his friends on the show is very genuine.
Richie: despite watching a ton of episodes with him, I still feel like I know nothing about him as a person. He definitely plays the (comedic) straight guy most of the time, he still has funny stuff to say but is much closer to being a just a regular guy.
Connor McNutt: they one of the entire larger group who's still in comedy and is a working standup. He opened for Lemonparty on tour and he's pretty decent, I'd see him again if he came through town. He was a later addition to the show, but having a "professional" standup definitely was a good addition to help the bits keep flowing
Jace: on a bunch of the early episodes before Lemonparty actually started so he gets a call-out

THE CONTENT
Main Youtube channels at https://www.youtube.com/@devancosta and https://www.youtube.com/@hatewatchpod . The one unfortunate part about Hate Watch is it doesn't get clipped as much, by virtue of being harder to nail down a specific segment or the fans just being too lazy. Just find a title/description of something that you think looks cool but here's a few good ones.

They don't watch as many videos on this one, but if you want to get the vibe and see the comedy you can never go wrong with an Ian appearance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi3Dmo3SSzA

Another one that's probably better on audio (this is before they get a video splitter so you can't see anything), but they watch people from "Emerson Comedy College" do awful sets
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svMtgY4b0gA

By far my favorite episode of the show is "2 Girls 1 Captain". After doing the Depp/Heard trial for multiple weeks . . . they get an actor from Disneyland (?) on the show who stays in persona as Captain Jack the entire time and is drinking from a giant bottle of liquor the whole show. It's next level and just typing this makes me want to go back and watch it again. Look at this loving thumbnail and tell me you don't want to see what they're getting into.

I may have said it somewhere else before, but my favorite segment is still them finding some elderly veteran on a twitter video and just laying into him for 5 minutes. It’s a close up on the dude crying with tears streaming down his face going “kids today . . . don’t realize what they have . . . our boys DIED for that”. They all lose their poo poo cackling and calling the guy an old bigoted loser complaining about how kids need to pull up their pants and just riff it out. It’s golden.

. . . and then a few minutes later Ben goes “oh wait a second . . . oh there’s a big disclaimer about people taking this clip out of context. This guy is sad that kids don’t have access to the same opportunities that earlier generations had and he feels sorry for them and is empathetic.” And they all collectively decide “eh we’re not watching the full video to confirm that, gently caress this guy” and continue to make fun of him. Perfect encapsulation of the show.

So eager to listen to the premium that dropped the other day "this one is 1000% the patreon"

Also their intense hatred of will and dawn has definitely rubbed off on me, I stopped at Buc-ee's to get something on the road over the weekend and I thought of those two acting like a Buc-ee's is a trip to France.

They are very well read despite the fact that Ben goes down autistic rabbit holes like Nick mullen

It’s hilarious that they’re simultaneously knowledgeable about all kinds of random old cultural stuff but then you have Ben learning live on the air that the reason Hamilton was a “thing” is because it starred black / Hispanic singers playing white people and he being completely bowled over.

And then they spent 30 minutes just making GBS threads all over Lin Manual Miranda and Jimmy Fallon

Do you have a list of other RGD threads to hit up first? Like we’d posted elsewhere, there’s the one Bein’ Ian episode that’s public so that’s an easier first step.

For whatever reason, the livestreams are on this one vs the main channel. But they don't keep them on the channel when they're done, apparently they archive/transfer them to Patreon after the fact so to get it free you have to catch it while it's actually live.

Also as much as I joked before, the live chat is actually pretty chill. Much less psycho poo poo than what I expected.
