Worth in big sarcastic quotes in the title. But yeah, is the entire searchable internet just poo poo now? All you can find anymore is twitter posts, reddit posts, facebook posts and perhaps sometimes a cheeky news site. There isn’t poo poo left. Why is nothing filling that void? Are hosting costs so prohibitive? Where’s the competition?

Honestly Reddit ended up being one of the last bastions of actual real discussion and answers. I don't know if/when that will change due to bots but if I search on google I'm searching reddit 99% of the time.

Try googling searchstring -inurl:reddit -inurl:twitter -inurl:facebook You can add other social media/clickbait/blog/"cheeky news"/just plain lovely websites to the above searchstring as you please. (NB Not all search engines have the '-' operator, e,g. DuckDuckGo doesn't... and doesn't warn you about it.)

I think part of it is that the internet is now mostly for normal people rather than terminally online people and most people are boring. I will say that the online stock status of poo poo in big box stores locally is a treasure. Knowing immediately whether my Home Depot has the thing I need and what loving aisle it's in without having to go there or track down a store employee is a godsend Alucard fucked around with this message at 12:15 on Apr 20, 2023 |

Dunno about some other search operators, but '-' still works a treat on Google, I use it all the time. (I tried it just now to confirm this.) Also works with eBay's own site search but not Amazon's (gently caress you Amazon). So when searching for stuff to buy that I'm rather hazy about the name(s) of on Amazon/eBay, I always search eBay first to find the exact product name(s).
