Has there been any talk about a new stadium in DC? I hear nothing but horrible things all the way down about the current one. From parking, to the food, access, the pricing, the sight lines and the sewage. Not to mention the product on the field.

DC is now back on the table but there’s still a lot of challenges, red tape, and coordination between the team, DC City Council, and the federal government to make it happen.

Honestly? Virginia is back to looking like the front runner again. With Snyder gone, they’re now likely to offer up the most cash to get it.

Sounds like the hold up is the league needing to rewrite their rules to allow it. Because the costs are skyrocketing for team sales, this is not going to be the last time someone will have to have an army of investors to raise enough capital otherwise there’s only like 10 or so billionaires able/willing to buy a team.

I’ve mentioned before that there’s a lot of red tape to getting the Commanders back into DC at the old RFK site. There has to be a three way agreement between the federal government, the mayor, and the DC city council. Looks like the council is playing hardball.

I don't understand. if there's "growing support" for bringing the team back why would the mayor have to work around the city council, who are necessarily more representative of (and beholden to) their constituents than the mayor

why doesn't the new ownership group simply buy the site themselves? raising capital clearly isn't an issue for them

They currently can’t because the land is still owned by the federal government. They have to cede it to DC first which is probably gonna take a vote of congress, who knows how that will go down or if they can bribe enough of them to get the vote. That land is gonna be worth a metric gently caress ton of money just because of its proximity to everything touristy DC and the metro stop. The council is clearly gonna have their own designs on what it’s gonna be used for, a football team is not likely to get them re-elected by their people. Affordable housing would. Lastly, the Commanders are going to want to turn the land into Jerry World East. Gambling, hotels, storefronts, Convention Center stuff, all that. Council would have to sign off on that too. Now imagine with all that, no public funds? Also now that Snyder is gone, Virginia gonna put on the full court press once again. They’ll pony up a bunch of money and probably get them some sweet land out there off the new Metro Silver line that’s close to Dulles airport. Virginia just grand opened the new Amazon HQ2 office buildings across from the Pentagon and they’re likely to win the bidding for the new FBI headquarters. Oh yeah, a rich white republican is also governor. They got money to throw around, and will toss it right at the new player in town, Josh Harris.

Does Josh Harris foster a toxic workplace with rampant sexual harassment and discrimination?

Does Josh Harris fly his cheerleaders to the Carribean, make them all get naked for a photo shoot, film them getting changed and stuff, and keep a secret DVD of it all for personal use?

So Dan Snyder played ball and sold the team and so because of that the NFL is releasing the “slap on the wrist” version of the Mary Jo White investigation. I guarantee there’s a real version out there that’s much more incriminating and damning but also makes the NFL look bad too for allowing him to do it all.

A sixty million fine when he just got 6 billion…

Others have said it better than me but he truly and methodically killed off one of the largest and most passionate fanbases in all of football. RFK was always sold out every week with legions of burgundy and gold fans and hardly any opposing team fans in sight. Hell FedEx field was too at the beginning, all 90,000 of them. The waitlist for season tickets was legendary. You signed up for them in the hopes that your next generation would get to use it, it was at least a decade at one point. It’s amazing how Snyder killed all of that within 20 years. Hell it was really around 15 years to be honest. I think the RG3 rookie year was the last hurrah of a dying fandom. When that imploded most of us just frankly had enough. I quit going to games sometime after that.
