In high school i took a date to see dead silence, a movie about ventriloquist serial killers or some poo poo. Not only was the movie dogshit but the murderer would graphically cut victims tongues out, which made the idea of kissing gross.

this is to my knowledge the only movie my father has ever walked out of after he suggested we see it. his number one favorite film is Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds with the Resident Evil and DOOM movies not far behind and he's excitedly suggested the live action Cowboy Bebop series to me before, but Sausage Party is what broke him. but i also cant blame him since it was godawful & might tie as the worst film i've ever seen now that i think about it lol

It’s so insane that Disney has Marvel movies written out a decade in advance but after spending $4 billion on Star Wars they couldn’t even be bothered to write a story outline for a single trilogy and just told the director of each individual movie to just make it up as they went along

When I saw The Last Jedi I was so bored that I remember thinking when credits rolled that I may as well have spent the last two and a half hours staring at the wall, and if you had told me then that there would be thousands of people who not just had strong passionate feelings about it positively or negatively but that they would also still be having vicious arguments about it online every time it got mentioned 6 years later I absolutely would not have believed you.

This. It's an extremely forgettable movie with like two cool scenes (Rey mirror images and Laura Dern kamikaze)

The bit with the red sand was cool to look at and filmed in an at least visually interesting way with expensive gear. Otherwise I couldn't tell you any events that took place

My sister reminded me of going to see transformers: dark of the moon on the hottest day of the year just to sit in an air conditioned room for a bit. I fell asleep like full on mouth open grandpa simpson snoring despite it being possibly the loudest film in existence

Its opening title crawl said “oh btw the First Order took over the entire galaxy between movies so we’re doing the Empire vs the Rebels again” and ended with a shot by shot remake of the Battle of Hoth but a character looked directly at the camera and said “let the past die… kill it if you have to” so it’s actually epic subversive and a radically new vision for Star Wars

Alaois posted:

Honestly would have preferred his version because it ends with Finn leading a big rebellion of stormtroopers against the First Order which a) would have given John Boyega something meaningful to do for the first time since the first Disney movie, and b) would have maybe addressed the whole “stormtroopers are child soldiers” thing that they introduced in the first movie to absolve Finn of any blame of being a stormtrooper but didn’t think about the fact that it would be true for all the thousands of other stormtroopers that the heroes gleefully slaughter without remorse too

i stand with oyu on this but its a matter of small degrees. theres only 3.5 good star wars movies (original trilogy + half credit for force awakens because its a setup movie and the next two blew chunks)

When the sci fi RSF opened a few years ago someone called me a sexist and said that I personally hate the idea of women in authority because I said that it was dumb that she wouldn’t even tell Poe that she had a plan, even if she couldn’t tell him what it was, so his rebellion was understandable because as far as he could tell she was just leading them all to their deaths for no reason and the whole arc about him being a cocky hotshot who can’t trust others fell flat as a result

I actually liked the force awakens a lot lol, which I think is why I’m so bitter about the other movies. I thought it was fun and had a real thrilling sense of adventure and I was willing to forgive how close it hewed to A New Hope because I figured they were just playing it safe since it’s the first movie they’re making and the rest of them would distinguish themselves more, which… :(

Yeah, same! It was a fun movie to watch, although they were definitely staying close to ANH. It seemed kinda promising and I figured they'd branch out into their own thing for the second and third, which... they did, but in all the wrong ways :v:

the kamikaze stuff was so funny like how the gently caress in the thousands of years that this franchise spanned no one realized that this could actually be used as a tactic. like the empire spent so much time and resources building death stars when they could just make an unmanned star destroyer with warp drives and chuck them at planets

TLJ was the first star wars movie that was actively miserable, the prequels were bad but at least I wasn't bored and hating them before they even ended.

Rise of Skywalker I was really high for and laughed for the whole runtime. Thirty seconds in I realized I was looking at an incredible one of a kind hack job, it's so half assed in every way while simultaneously wasting a massive budget

ten thousand years of space battles revolving around shooting the universe's shortest-ranged lasers at each other and missing when the whole time they could have been blasting kamikaze droid hyperdrive missiles at each other from light years away

anyways i never cared for Star Wars much but i watched like 5 of the new films cuz it was an easy thing for my friends to agree on seeing together. Rogue One was actually pretty good+Solo had a few cool scenes but the trilogy got worse with each new movie imo. i never fall asleep during movies but i passed out for like twenty minutes during Rise of Skywalker. abysmal

they invented a new kind of hyperspace to explain why everyone in the galaxy could see a planet explode

quote:

According to a tweet from Pablo Hidalgo, the vast quantities of energy released by firing of the Starkiller weapon had the ability to create a temporary rip in sub-hyperspace, thus allowing the Hosnian system's destruction to be viewed from across the galaxy as it occurred.
