I didn't closely read this but it didn't seem like they addressed that result. I'm pretty sure my mind's eye hasn't changed, but I also remember not thinking it was any different until high school. As a kid I never thought "now picture an orange in your head" as being literal and I would probably have said "yeah I can totally see an orange" when asked. Anyway it's probably a spectrum thing like ADHD/tism/other brain stuff and there are probably a few different flavors of it. The weirdest thing about it is that it doesn't actually seem to impact how people do things or the end results of "visualization" much. People with aphantasia can rotate poo poo in their head, other spatial tasks, describe things they imagine, dream normally, etc. It's kind of a curiosity but it's not like the clock drawing test or anything.

I remember seeing things in my mind's eye as a kid but now in my thirties the best I can do is a grey, fuzzy image that I can't hold at all. The exception is when I'm high, when I can see everything
