OFFICIAL THREAD THEME SONG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw88zQTxq48

Hello and welcome to the Street Fighter 6 thread! This is the thread about Street Fighter 6, the Sixth mainline title in the Street Fighter series!

Join the fighting game DISCORD so you can learn about buttons and things of that nature.

What is Street Fighter?
It's the beloved fighting game franchise that captured the world in the early 90s! It's not the early 90s anymore, but we all still love those World Warriors!

How's the fighting looking?
It's looking pretty good! The new drive system is looking like it's gonna be a big game changer and will lead to new and interesting combo routes and extensions.

I heard SFV had bad online, how's the online in this one?
We've only had the beta tests to see how the online will react but for my money, it felt really really good, and this was US to Canada, so not an insignificant distance.

I don't care about all that online multiplayer stuff, I want my SINGLE PLAYER CONTENT! What's the game looking like from that standpoint?
OH BOY do I have great news for you. There's a giant create a character mode where you can make a waifu OC horrible monstrosity and have it go around to the various street fighters and learn moves from them! It's like a big budget beat em up!

Do I need a fancy controller to win?
Absolutely not. You can win on any controller whether it's stick, hitbox or just standard ps/xbox controller. If anyone tells you you need any one of these to win, they're trying to sell you snake oil.

When will the game come out?
Game is out on June 2nd.

I only have an Xbox Series S. Will I be segregated in matchmaking? What consoles will SF6 be on?
No! SF6 has integrated servers (crossplay) for all consoles! Go hog wild on any console you please! SF6 will be on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series and Steam.

I'm not sold yet. Is there a demo?
There sure is! It's on all consoles and features two characters, Ryu and Luke in offline versus. Sorry no online!

I've been hearing about all these modern controls and it makes me scared! What do modern controls actually do?

I feel like Street Fighter V was a gigantic miss, and the demo really did nothing to sell me on SF6. But read about the single player modes, and seeing what was locked away in the demo, has me hopeful that this is going to be a good game. Plan on buying it on Steam. If nothing else SF6 will help pass the time until Tekken 8.

Street Fighter 6, AKA 'Mega Man: The Power Battles with bonus Street Fighter game'.

Do we know if/how you can re-edit your character in World Tour mode? I have a concept for a character, but it kinda only works if I can get sorts of clothes that might not necessarily be there.

I'm a bit worried about how strong modern controls may be vs classic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgyCzpNozKk

I think Daigo has expressed similar concerns.

It seems impossible to actually balance the two schemes against each other; my assumption had been Capcom would keep modern strictly worse, but they've continued to insist Modern is intended to be entirely viable and a reasonable choice in tournaments.

Gotta say that instant supers, DPs, and hit confirm/auto OS seem really, really strong. Will Gief have a one button SPD?!

Its being overblown honestly

You literally don't get your full moveset, and do 20% less damage across the board if you use modern. There's a few nice quality of life things there, but not worth the penalty.

Isn't it only 20% on the special moves & Supers (and you can still do the inputs for full damage if you want?)? It seems like the missing moves will vary a lot depending on the character.

Modern controls doesn't improve your reaction times. If you can't anti-air DP or hit-confirm on reaction with classic controls you won't be able to do it with modern, because it's your brain that's too slow.

I'm skeptical--DP inputs and supers are always going to be slower than single buttons, and that matters a lot when it comes to mental stack and reactions in an actual game.

I don't know what I think about Focus Attack having 2 hits of armor AND the game not having any armor breaking special moves (besides supers).
Obviously, it's hard to tell how it's going to work in practice without having played the real game a bunch but based on my extensive SF4 experience it would be a bit too strong for my taste.

There's no armor break property but anything that's a quick 2-3 hits does the job. If you're buffering a normal into tatsu or legs, you'll generally beat drive impact.

Honda might become an unexpected star of scrub-tier SF6, as the guy who can literally mash through Drive Impact.

Not quite, we still don't 100% know what's up with some of what Marisa does, but that's specific to her and not universal.

You're right, I remember now that Marisa seems to have an armor break move.
It's not like SF4 though, where every character had at least one special they could use to shut down focus attacks.

Universal things that beat DI that we know of:

* Jab spam
* Throws
* Parry (active from frame 1, woe be upon them if you land perfect parry)
* Jump
* Just block it, as long as you're not in the corner

And the best way to counter a drive impact is to... well. Counter-drive impact. You'll get the most reward out of counter-drive impact.

And the window for counter-DI is HUGE. Like, you can be fishing with some normals (I think like, Ryu st.MK) and still recover fast enough to DI on reaction.

So it's not like it's this invincible thing.

(I apologize for not having any readily-available clips for these other things, twitter has just gotten worse and unsearchable if you don't have an account, so have a Max video instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmgovEtR1-4 )

VVVV especially since training mode has a specific Drive Impact Defense Practice setting.

Countering DI with your own DI is one of the first muscle memory reactions everyone should practice. People will be throwing tons of raw DI's online, because at least early on it'll work more often than not.

It also means that nobody is robbed of seeing that awesome DI animation, which as we all know, is the real victory condition of the game.

I haven't really been playing fighting games since like SF4 and MvC3 were new, but SF6 has me excited. Looks cool, demo is fun, and it seems like the World Tour story mode thing will have a lot to do. I'm a sucker for character creation in fighting games.

Do we know what the deal is with the different currencies in the game though? There's like, zenny, coins, tickets, miles, maybe another I forgot. The demo didn't really discuss them at all so I'm concerned about mobile game style currency confusion. I'm hoping it's simpler than it seems at a glance.

I'm very hype for SF6 and am super excited to check out JP, Marisa and Jamie in terms of the new-comers, and seeing the new take on Dee Jay.
JP in particular looks like he has the sort of trap zoner shenanigans that make me giddy with delight, as much as I may suck at actually using them.

JP looks like he's straight out of an anime fighter with that moveset. I'm very excited to zone some fools with him, especially with that baller alternate costume.

Yeah, this is definitely something occurring to me about the modern control scheme. So far we've only really been discussing it from the perspective of people that were honestly never going to swap from classic controls anyway; I think the first person who's going to approach modern controls as a serious option and find a strength for it is going to REALLY clean up somewhere. I feel like classic controls have strengths, we just haven't found them yet, perhaps because none of the characters that could really make the most of it were in the beta.

re: modern v classic

It's worth remembering that the game defaults to Modern controls, so a lot of people who are approaching SF6 as their first fighting game or from a more casual angle are going to be the kind of folks who don't even look into Classic controls at all. I'm interested in seeing how much play Modern controls get competitively, but on the casual side of things it's probably going to be everywhere- even in ranked. Though how far up in ranked you see it appear is gonna depend a lot on how viable it is as a playstyle.

I've been trying to think of Modern and Classic as different grooves rather than like 'simple controls vs normal controls'. The intent seems to be something closer to that, conceptually.

The actual 'simple controls' are the Dynamic Controls option which can't even be used online or in World Tour. we'll barely see that one at all.

I think the point is that people who already know what they're doing can get an edge by using modern, so they won't have that issue. I'm also not convinced that modern controls are that big of a competitive bonus, as others have said 20% damage is a pretty big trade off. It's just influencers being influencers and click baiting.
