I've only been to Vegas twice but my last time was for a football game. My friends that are super into birding found a bird sanctuary just outside the city that was surprisingly nice and peaceful to go spend an afternoon at. The first time I went with my wife, she and I did a bunch of hiking at Calico Tanks and Red Rocks during the day, and then went out drinking and eating at night. It was great. Vegas sucks poo poo if you stick to the strip only, but if you get outside the city, it's not a terrible place to visit. Also if you stay there for more than a couple of days, you're doing it wrong.
