(And ambushes enemies, I guess) Definitely doable but without the alien powers you need to really collect all the scrap and garbage to make enough ammo and medkits I found, at least if you intend on taking every fight. Especially lategame when the enemies get tougher and your non-medkit healing options start disappearing
