I personally wouldn't feel too bad for killing them but I also grew up with a similar situation in Hawaii where it was (likely) much worse because there are no natural predators or competitors. I remember when I first started hearing them when I was a kid. (Coqui frogs in my case.) There were just a few at first but every year you could hear more an more until eventually in my teens it sounded like this every night:
