What is this?

Yes, Your Grace is a role-playing strategy game developed by Brave at Night and was released in 2020. We play as King Eryk and we rule over the small kingdom of Davern, we are also a family man and we need to take care of our loved ones.

This is our first view of the throne room. It's nighttime, and we're sitting on our throne with our crown jewels proudly on display and our crown near to our side:

Gameplay is organized into weekly rounds and we need to make binary choices about how to respond to various events that happen throughout each round. These events will vary between visitors to the royal court, managing the running of our castle and being a family man whenever we can find the time. Some events will play out as they will, but most of the events will involve making a choice of how we want to proceed.

Audience Participation!

This is where you all come in. No matter if it involves the whole kingdom or dealing with an unruly offspring, I will put each option up for voting. We also start off with only a meagre amount of resources and we need to decide on how to spend what we have as well decide as how we are going to make more.

LP Details

I'm new to the SSLP format so I'm going to try to aim for one update a week, a fortnight at the most.

A quick guide on how to rule the kingdom

This is where I'm going to hand things over to our Chancellor, Audry. Audry is our advisor, he is loyal and always gives good advice, it's up to us if we want to listen to him or not.

Thank you, your Grace. I have prepared a parchment with all of the necessary information about our resources and manpower, I will provide you with a new parchment with updated information at the beginning of every week.

Resources

We have to control four resources to keep our kingdom running smoothly. Gold, supplies, army and contentment. We need to distribute gold and supplies to our petitioners; if they are happy, their contentment will grow. A strong kingdom needs a big army. To gain more soldiers for our army, we will need to make alliances with neighboring Lords and Kings. We can gain resources through taxes, as well as from the alliances we make with Lords.

The second row on the parchment shows how many generals that are currently in our employment and how many messenger pigeons we currently own. As you can see, we only have one of each right now. I have left space on the parchment in case there is any other elements that you may wish to add in the future.

We currently have a modest amount of gold in our treasury and there are many different ways of attaining more. There is one consistent source of income and one that we will need to rely upon for some time.

Taxes

The villages in our domain pay taxes. Happy people will pay their taxes gladly, while the resentful will do what they can to get around them, resulting in less income for us. This is why we need to make sure people's contentment is high, in order to keep a good gold flow.

Petitioners

Peasants, merchants, knights, foreigners, Lords even! They all have problems, and they will seek help from their King. We can use our resources or agents to help those in need. Beware though! Some might come with malicious intentions, so you should carefully consider who is truly in need, Your Grace.

But where there is risk of being fleeced there is also the potential for rewards. Helping others can also bring in extra resources, soldiers and/or maybe even a favour at some point in the future.

Map Of The Castle

One last thing, your Grace. I commisioned an artist to paint a picture of the castle. The castle is currently undergoing some renovations and we are also carrying out some security checks, so I will outline in chalk the locations that are currently safe to visit. If you would like to visit a location then please point to it on the map so I can arrange for the bodyguards to escort you safely. I have also commisioned several special pins that I will use on the map that will inform you of any matters requiring your attention. I will use blue pins on locations that require your immediate attention and green pins to notify you of more informal matters.

Let's Play: Yes, Your Grace - (01) For Davern!

How has it come to this? Everything that we have worked so hard to achieve this past year could all be for aught after tonight. Could this be the last time that I sit here? I should make the most of this moment.

It is time, Your Grace.

Audrey, my loyal companion even to the last. As much as I want to be sentimental, I do have a duty to perform and my men need me right now.

Crown of the King of Davern. It's getting a bit rusty.

All I want right now is to be with my family but there isn't enough time to even embrace them for one last time. My duty right now is with my men on the wall.

Your Grace! A deserter! Found one of ours hiding in a shed.

Shed? Why would you do this, Sorbik?

There's too many of them! We have no chance of winning!

If you let him off, the rest may follow. However, our army is sparse as it is. We need every set of hands able to hold a sword, Your Grace.

If this was any other time then this man would face punishment. If these walls fall tonight then this man will die anyway, as will we all. Even the least brave soldiers are essential now.

Th-thank you, Your Grace.

Over here, your Grace.

How bad is it, General?

Our men are scared. It's the middle of the night, and yet it's so bright, as if Svarog himself walked our lands. The thin walls won't last long and we lack any solid defence measures. We don't have enough men. Once they get in, we have nothing we can throw their way. Can you hear the chanting? They're getting ready. We'd better get started. I have gathered archers from all the other walls... They are awaiting you at the wall, Your Grace. There's still time to put up white flags...

If we put up the white flags then it would just make it easier for them to slaughter us. We will make them pay dearly for their treachery!

Sons of Davern... My brothers! We stood together through the worst of times. We have proved our strength in many battles! And today, we will prove it again! My bravest men! I bid you to fight for all you hold dear! For Davern!

I wasn't sure how I was going to shoehorn this in but I may as well do it now.

I started prepping for this SSLP a few weeks ago but I put things on hold while trying to sort some IRL stuff. In the meantime between then and now, a sequel to this game was announced: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1373090/Yes_Your_Grace_Snowfall/

I will definitely be purchasing it when it's released. I'm not looking too far ahead when it comes to doing SSLPs but if all goes well with this one I might give it a shot.

I already have all of the prep work done for the next update as it was done alongside the first update, I just need to piece it all together and I'm hoping to have something up within the next few days. The voting will begin in the next update. I'm going to keep the in-game dialogue in the default font, anything in italics will be my own commentary.

Thank you, I appreciated yours and every else's advice and suggestions.

3... 2... 1... Ok, here I come!

You found me. Well done, Father.

Come on now, Lorsulia. It's not often that we can do this.

I told you, I don't want to play. Aren't you too old for this?

Lorsulia! That's no way to speak to your father!

Lorsulia is a stick-in-the-mud!

Shut it, Asalia! We can see you from miles away!

Got you! Shouldn't have insulted your sister from across the gardens.

She always has to ruin everything! She's so proud, she couldn't even find a place to hide.

I wasn't even trying to hide! I don't want to play!

Next time you don't want to play, maybe try writing a formal announcement. Oh, wait... You can't write!

Of course I can, you nitwit!

Cut it out, both of you.

Lorsulia is such a dumpling!

Oh, you know I'm not playing with you, darling. The sun finally came out, let me enjoy it.

Aurelea used to love to sit on this bench and knit, now she gets more peace in our bedchamber. There's a crack in the pavement... We need to get it patched up one day... I'm not sure what these purple flowers are, but they are attracting a lot of bees. These roses make this place smell amazing. It's very calming, no wonder our girls like to spend time here.

And here's the little one!

Noooooooo! I was doing so well! You must have cheated! Or... Or peeked! I demand... Another trial of... of the game!

How official, ha! Maybe next time, Cedani.

Forgive me, Your Grace. I hate to interrupt, but your subjects will soon arrive.

All right, enough games. The throne awaits!

The petitioners will start queing in a moment, Your Grace.

We really need to shorten the visiting hours.

Can you go and speak to Lorsulia, my dear? I've tried talking to her, but she just won't respond. I don't know what's got into her recently. Maybe she will open up a bit more to you. She's probably wandering about at the Wall.

Of course, my sweetest.

Your Grace. I bring bad news. The recent rains have soaked through our roofs. The pantry roof has collapsed. As well as some walls of our Dungeon. Only one cell is currently functional. We should really fix those things before they get worse. Otherwise, we'll keep losing supplies. You will see the required fixes in your weekly summary at the end of the week.

Your Grace, my daughter's wedding is at hand.

Congratulations!

The problem is... We don't have enough gold or supplies to make a worthy feast. What will my daughter's in-laws think of our family?! We want to hire a band, buy some of that fancy wine on the market. We would only need 5 gold and 5 supplies.

I need to consult the council before I commit the kingdom's resources to your request. Please wait inside the castle grounds and enjoy our hospitality, I will summon you when a decision has been made.

Your Grace, I come here representing my village. We want to ask you for 7 gold to help us gather tools and resources required to build an inn. We could really use a new place to rest after a long day of work!

Please wait inside the castle grounds and enjoy our hospitality as well, I will summon you once I have made a decision.

Monsters! Beasts, dressed in black! They came in the night. Unseen. Unheard. Until they arrived. They attacked the village. We heard the dreadful screams of the slain. Your Grace, I bet you. You must send your men, check what happened. Find those responsible!

Who are they?

Bright, red heads. Short, but sharp fangs. Hundreds of them! Gleaming metal for their claws. We've never seen anything like this!

The General should deal with these bandits easily.

Thank you, Your Grace!

The General was only promoted recently and I've heard a rumour that they're wanting to get out so they can explore the local area. I also want to get out, I'm going to stretch my legs a little.

There are three people who you may be interested in speaking to, Your Grace. Your daughter Asalia is currently in the garden and I know that you are keen to discuss the matters of this morning. The Dungeon Guard would like a word with you about the current state of the dungeons. And your daughter Lorsulia is currently atop of the castle wall, she may also welcome a vist from you, Your Grace.

Thank you, Audry. I will speak to Asalia first, it won't take long.

Yes, Father?

What is the matter with you two? You and Lorsulia used to be best friends.

You mean why is Lorsulia such a big baby?

This is the kind of thing I mean...

She's annoying, is all.

Insulting your sister won't make the situation better. She will just get more resentful as time goes by.

Ugh, but it's so hard! Sigh. I'm sorry Father. I won't do it again.

Stay safe.

drat it. This is worse than I thought.

The recent downpours have damaged a lot of buildings, Your Grace. While we still have space for prisoners, we should focus on buildings that need more attention. I've had a scribe write a list of things that need to be fixed. you will see this in your weekly summary, Your Grace.

This sounds like it's going to be costly.

Yes.

Damnit! We don't have a lot of gold in our treasury right now, not nearly enough for all of these repairs!

The dungeon is very dark and moist. I wouldn't like to stay in here for longer than a minute. These barrels are empty, they used to store our wine... Are those mushrooms? These dungeons are a mess, I don't want to think about what else is growing in here. It's quite pretty, though. We really need to fix that roof! I would rather not go in that cell... What if more walls collapse?

By all the gods, that could have been me! Your Grace, do you see what happened here?! If I was in the other cell, I would have been crushed! This... this is a sign. The gods have forgiven my sins! I shall serve the mighty ones. I will dedicate my life to those in need! I mean... If I could get out of here, please?

Why are you here again?

Oh. Um. Er... I bumped into the inn keeper on the street, and stepped on his toe?

How dare you tell such falsehoods? He ordered a gallon of beer, drank it all by himself and didn't even have the gold to pay for it! I know the innkeeper. He was pretty upset!

Oh yes, I think I remember...

Your Grace, I have been enlightened. I won't ever do such a stupid thing again. I will serve a higher purpose now! Just maybe... let me out?

Hmm, I'm needed at the castle wall right now. I shall think about it on my way over there.

Oh, it's you.

Do you want to talk about what happened in the Gardens?

No. I'm fine, Father.

Why didn't you want to play with us? You used to find the best spots, remember?

Maybe I'm not five anymore?

So Asalia's been pretty nasty recently. I don't know where your sister learned to be so rude.

Mhm.

I can see something's wrong. Why won't you talk to me?

Everything's fine. Don't you have things to do?

I'll leave you to it...

Sure...

Council Meeting

Welcome everyone to your first council meeting. The last council were... ahem... made redundant due to a lot of poor decisions. Namely corruption, fraud and deceit. Due to the negligence of the last council, the castle is currently in dire need of renovation and our current resources are low. We have several matters to discuss, let's begin with the requests made to the King earlier.

A peasant has asked for 5 gold and 5 supplies to cover the costs of his daughter's wedding ceremony. While this may increase the morale of our people a little, would this benefit the kingdom in any other way? If we accept this request does that mean that we should pay for every other ceremony that is asked of us? Should we Pay for the wedding or should we Just give our blessing?.

We also have a potential investment opportunity. A peasant from one of our villages has asked that we help finance the building of an inn for their villagers. Should we Give him 7 gold or should we Send him on his way?

We currently only have one General and they have been sent to investigate a problem near one of the local villages. We need to be considerate of where we send him as he can only be in one place at a time. We will start recruiting more people soon, but we are very short on staff for now.

We also need to decide whether we want to start on any repairs now or if we want to wait until we have more resources. You can see that resources are slowly being drained while these facilities are currently in a state of disrepair. We will need to start the repairs sooner rather than later, but we also don't want to spend too much just in case something unexpected turns up. Please vote if you want to Upgrade with your choice in a facility or facilities, or vote on [b]Not to upgrade
for now.

I shall now open this up for discussion and for votes to be cast!

I completely forgot to include the decision about the criminal. I've edited it into the main post but I'll include the section here as well:

quote:

The dungeons are in dire need of repair, we only have one cell that we can use and it's currently occupied by a petty criminal. Everyone should pay for their crimes but his crime was only a minor one and he has been in the cell for some time now. Should we Pardon him to make room in case there is a serious or should we Keep him locked up until he has paid his dues?

I apologise, I've been working on this on and off for the past few days and was working on this for a solid two hours before posting. My brain was a little frazzled when I hit the post button. I probably should have slept on this and checked it over in the morning with a fresh mind.

I'm going to close the voting now. If I have added things up correctly:

Pay for the wedding - 0 Votes
Just give our blessing - 9 votes

Give him the Gold - 12 votes
Send him on his way - 0 votes

Pardon him - 5 votes
Keep him locked up - 2 votes

Pantry - 12 votes
Market - 7 votes
Theatre - 1 vote

I'm going to go ahead with everything in bold. The wedding and inn were unanimous and releasing the prisoner had the majority of votes. Fixing the pantry and market were very popular choices so I'll be going ahead with those. The theatre only had one vote so I'll be leaving that for now. I'll start work on the next update soon and I will hopefully have something up within the next few days.

Let's Play: Yes, Your Grace - (03) Week One Summary

Council Meeting

Welcome back, everyone. Now that you've had time to think about these matters we should open them up for discussion. The previous council members were composed of the local nobles throughout the land, but we had to change things due to the sheer amount of embezzlement, bribery and other activities that were taking place. You all know this already as most of you were there for their executions.

I have taken it upon myself to recruit respected people from within the city and from the various towns and villages in the land who want to see this kingdom prosper and grow for its people, instead of people who are power-hungry and who are only after filling up their own treasuries. This kingdom needs people who can give professional opinions and sage advice on how we can make this kingdom prosper and help defend it from those who wish us harm. Some of you may know each other but you have all been assigned pseudonyms for now for your safety. These records will be made public and although the previous council members' families have sworn their loyalties, there may still be one or two hot-headed kin who want to enact a form of revenge.

As you all know, our resources have been squandered and due to a lot of false promises, we have a lot of buildings that are in serious need of repairs. I have enlisted a foreman who will inspect buildings due for repair and send me an estimate of how much it will cost to repair them. I have taken the liberty of preparing a report of their preliminary estimates alongside our projected losses if we don't start work immediately.

PurpleXVI: Fix Market Stall. The sooner we get an investment happening, the faster it'll pay off. Fix Pantry Roof. A constant drain on our resources is going to hurt us in the long run.

Bregor: Repair the pantry roof since we need resources for, well, living.

Black Robe: Fix the pantry and the market stall, we need resources.

NeoRonTheNeuron: Use supplies to fix the pantry, invest gold to fix the marketplace.

sullat: Fix the pantry sure

jkq: Fix Pantry Roof, get rid of a drain on the kingdom's resources. Fix Market Stall, gain more resources over time.

BraveLittleToaster: Fix the pantry roof as well, that's important.

I can hear you all murmuring in agreement, is there anyone who opposes this? I see a look of concern on your face LLSix.

LLSix: We should do all the upgrades. We can afford all of them, and they're all good profit for the cost. The only one I'm not sure about is the theater, but it's only one year's taxes and it removes a penalty to a resource we don't have a reliable way to raise. Also, contentment influences our taxes, so we don't want that going down. All the upgrades, pantry, theater and stall

NeoRonTheNeuron: I don't think we should fix the theatre yet. We'd be very low on gold after; perhaps too low for the next round of dilemmas.

Does anyone else have anything to add? We shall bring this matter up again in next week's council meeting. It will be listed again alongside any other buildings for repair that are brought to my attention. Today's audience with the King brought up several issues that need addressing. King Eryk took it upon himself to resolve a fanciful tale of monsters attacking a nearby village by sending our only general. Fortunately, the Kingdom is quiet right now so we can afford to send the general on fanciful adventures. He is new after all and needs to learn the lay of the land. But we do need to be careful in the future if things become busier as General Stan cannot be everywhere at once.

There are a couple of local matters which we need to address and these will affect our resources. One of the local peasants approached the King and asked him to finance his son's wedding ceremony. He is asking for five gold and five supplies so he can impress his daughter-in-law's family and from the sounds of it, he won't be returning any of these resources back to us.

BraveLittleToaster: Give our blessing, that should be good enough for that lot.

NeoRonTheNeuron: do not give wedding gold/supplies

LLSix: Give our blessing. This dude is asking for almost a full years worth of supply for a single party. Is he planning to invite elephants? No, just no.

Bregor: We can't be paying for every ding-dang wedding in our kingdom!

jkq: Just give our blessing, the kingdom can't pay for weddings given its current status.

BlackRobe: Bless the wedding, it's not our duty to pay for parties

sullat: Bless the wedding, that's some bridezilla

From the murmurs and nods of your heads I can see that this decision is unanimous. We shall give our blessing and no more. The other issue concerns a peasant from a different village. He is asking for seven gold to finance the building of an inn. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

sullat: Build the inn that drunk needs a new place to drink

jkq: Finance the inn, developing the kingdom is good.

PurpleXVI: Build the Inn. Investments are important. Also we can take Dusty there and many people can pet him.

Bregor: Finance the inn, it's going to be the first stop for so many adventures!

LLSix: Finance the peasant's inn. The difference between the wedding and the inn is that inns are economic infrastructure, providing a place for merchants and other travelers, like our tax collector and soldiers to stay.

Black Robe: We can tax it later.

NeoRonTheNeuron: Give gold to build the inn

It seems like this matter is settled. There is one more minor issue that we need to talk about. The dungeons were recently damaged due to adverse weather and we have now gone from three jail cells to one. The sole jail cell is currently occupied by a drunken lout who couldn't pay his tab. He is currently in the cells to sober up and learn a valuable lesson. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue if we had the room but if something more serious was to take place we wouldn't have anywhere to hold the person responsible. Should we pardon the young lout in the advent of a potential crisis or should he serve the time that he was given?

Bregor: Keep the criminal locked up since he lied right off the bat. Honesty is the best policy.

STABASS: Pardon the prisoner. He's not going to be paying off his tab in there.

sullat: Are we running a debtor's prison?

jkq: Pardon the prisoner, it was only a minor crime, and the king is kind.

NeoRonTheNeuron: pardon the prisoner

Black Robe: Leave the dude locked up, he's only going to do something dumb and end up right back in there anyway

Slaan: The public defender in me says pardon him.

wedgekree: Pardon peasant. While he's in lockup we have to A) Feed him and B) Guard him. A pardoned petty criminal will tell others about our benevolence.

BraveLittleToaster: Finance the peasant's inn. Let's encourage inns aplenty whenever the opportunity rises

LLSix: Keep him locked up. No way to tell what impact either choice will have. I suspect that pardoning him will cost us contentment with no upside, but who knows. Whichever way this shakes out is fine with me, but I had to pick something.

This seems to be an issue of some debate. The majority of votes are in favour of pardoning the prisoner. The matters for this week are now concluded, I shall inform the King of how to proceed at his earliest convenience.

Thank you for your patience gentlemen. The matters have been discussed and decisions have been made. You have my blessing for the wedding, but I won't help. The kingdom has more important matters at hand. Wish your daughter the best from me.

You skimp us a little gold? Shouldn't the King support his people in the hard times?! Pff, I can't feed my guests with the 'King's Blessing'...

As for your inn, take this gold. Make it the best inn around!

Oh, we surely will! Thank you, Your Grace!

It's time that I gave the good news to the guest in the dungeon. Are you sure that this is the correct decision, Audry?

Yes, Your Grace!

You've had enough. I hope you learned your lesson. you may leave.

What?! Really? The gods have truly chosen me! I will go and spread their wisdom! Thank you, Your Grace. Our paths will cross again. I can feel it!

I'm going to head to my chambers to take advantage of this time for some peace and quiet. It hasn't been a busy week but I'm sure that will change as the weeks go by. Before I do, there's just one more task that I need to perform.

Meow

Ooof! What's that smell! Is that you, Dusty?

Mrrr!

Well, it wasn't me!

I hope that you don't mind if I use your names in the updates, if it's an issue then please let me know and I'll leave them out or amend any that I've already done. Also, feel free to role-play with future votes if you want to, I was tempted to add some things but I thought it would be unfair to force characterisations on people who want to do their own. I'll work on the next proper update soon and I'll have something up at some point next week, hopefully.

I did miscount the votes. There were three votes to keep the prisoner locked up, not two. Not that it changes the outcomes but I'd still like to acknowledge it. I'll be more vigilant in the future.

Let's Play: Yes, Your Grace - (04)

Your Grace, no sign of the monsters. We did stumble upon these bandits, though. They were pillaging the village.

Red head, sharp teeth...

A Crest of Radovia?! I thought you could only find them in books and old manuscripts!

Well, seems like we have one right here too. Tell me... Is it true that you're from Radovia?

Your man is right. Radovia is my home. And soon yours too, ha!

What were you and your men doing near the village?

We're just making a living. One man might call it plunder, I would call it... Hard work.

Do you have a king? Or are you just a barbaric thief?

We are a free people. We don't bow to kings or lords.

Bold words for someone trespassing in another country. Bold and stupid. Your Grace, we can't allow barbarians to stalk our lands. Plundering, and killing innocent men? There is no question that justice needs to be dealt to this one.

Keep him detained for now, we will decide what to do with him later!

What do you make of this, Audry?

Radovians? Here? How would they get through the mountains? Why would they threaten a war?

That's a lot of questions, but I need answers, Audry.

Forgive me, Your Grace. I'm just puzzled. It might be reasonable to start thinking about renewing some old treaties. Talk to old friend, see who could give us a hand. With our current resources, a war would bring certain defeat. I will make some preparations.

I bring news, Father. Asalia sneaked out at night last week! I ran into her while she was going back to her chamber, all laughing and a little tipsy, I think! She wouldn't say where she'd been, but Cedani, as thick as she is, spilled everything to me in the morning. Those two chit-chat all the time. They think I don't realise.

Thick? Don't speak ill of your sister! What's got into you, Lorsulia?

Asalia sneaks out to some wedding, gets all drunk, but I'm the bad one all of a sudden?!

I'd better talk to Asalia about this. You girls are going to drive me mad one day!

Your Grace, my dear son is nowhere to be found. Yes... a really daft little boy, but still, he is my son. I ask you to help us find him, Your Grace. Is there a chance you could do so?

I need to talk with my advisor to see if we can spare either money or manpower. Please wait in the gallery and I will inform you of my decision soon.

My name is Etton - I'm the Lord of Branca, Your Grace. I will be as straightforward as possible. Someone has kidnapped my daughter, and they expect me to pay 12 gold to get her back. The thing is... I tracked them down and I know where they are keeping her. I've planned everything out, I just need your general to help me take her back. Or, I could just pay the ransom. Either way, I will need your help, Your Grace.

I will see what I can do, Lord Etton. I need to consult my advisor before I make a decision, I will give you a decision as soon as I am able to. Please make yourself at home until I have made a decision.

Your Grace, I fear for my life. I think someone is trying to get me.

What's going on?

I think... I think someone is following me. They want me dead...

Who's 'they'?

I don't know! How would I know? I haven't done anything, right? I better be going...

Well now... What was that all about? It's time to stretch my legs, Audry isn't around which means that I will be able to walk around the castle without an entourage! He means well but sometimes it's nice to have some time on my own. I need to speak to Asalia right now! I hope that the walk to the gardens will calm my current mood.

Yes, Father?

I've heard there was quite a fine wedding in the village just outside our walls.

It wasn't bad, but I've heard it could have been even better if my father was a bit less stingy...

Sounds as if they had the honor of a royal guest!

No... Of course not! I've heard people say, is all.

Come on now, I know about the wedding. Lorsulia told me what happened.

How would she know anyway? Oh, of course... Cedani...

Cedani... I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to you.

You have no need to worry, nothing will happpen.

Do you know what's out there? What could have happened if someone found a princess by herself in a village? All the drunkards, thugs...

Nothing happened, Father! I was... dressed differently. I was careful, I'm not stupid. I know what I'm doing. All I wanted was a little fun.

Lorsulia said you got drunk?

That's a lie! I know what I'm doing, I can take care of myself! How many times? Ugh. Lorsulia. Since she turned thirteen, she thinks you will make her marry some fat, dumb prince and send her off to another castle. If she intends to be such a lousy rat, maybe it would be for the best.

Is that why she's been acting up lately?

I suppose so? It doesn't change the fact that she's just infuriating.

And it doesn't change the fact that you didn't stop with the name calling! You are confined to the castle! I will speak to your mother on these matters and we will work out a suitable punishment.

Your Grace.

I will be on my way. Keep up the good work, Stan.

Yes, Your Grace.

This gate looks very old. Anyone with some strength could probably just barge through it. Generals and Hunters sometimes come to the courtyard to practice swordsmanship. A pile of logs and a couple of barrels, a piece of fabric covering a hole in the roof... This place could do with a little tidying up.

Oh, it's you.

Asalia told me why you might be feeling a bit down recently.

Oh, and why is that?

Tradition says a girl your age needs a husband, but I promise you won't have to marry a stranger. We will make sure we know the prince well before the wedding.

Mhm.... Time will show.

I will check on you later.

Mhm.

The only place where I need to be right now is with my love, Aurelea. I'm not looking forward to this conversation.

Darling?

Radovians have come to Davern. One of their bandits was brought to the castle.

Radovians?! That can't be right... Do you think it's about your... our promise?

It might be. What do you think?

Thirteen years ago, we promised our unborn child's hand to a thug.

Beyran, wasn't it?

Does it matter? After thirteen years, a Radovian shows up in our castle.

I'll be damned...

Yes. Lorsulia will soon become a woman, and we will need to find her a husband.

And Beyran, the villain, will arrive to make me fulfil my promise. How could we have promised our daughter's hand to a Radovian?

With a knife to my throat, I'm not sure what else we could have done. To think our daughter will marry some barbaric thug, though... We can't let this happen, Eryk.

Don't worry, we will solve this. Do you remember the curse?

I don't even want to think about this... Let's just hope the curse is nothing but a hoax, and see how things with the thug turn out.

What are we going to do?

If Beyran ever shows up to claim our daughter's hand, hopefully no one will believe him.

We just need to play stupid...

Unless... he shows up with an army...

Don't be silly now. How could a commmoner afford an army? Even we can't.

How could Radovians get to Davern? Anything seems possible at this stage.

How are you holding up?

I-I don't know... It's so unreal... Marry a prince, a lord even... Yes. But let her marry a thug? We can't do this...

It will be fine. I won't let them take her away.

Eryk... I am terrified.

I can handle this.

Fine. I will stay here.

Family Matters

We need to talk about Asalia.

Cedani told me what happened this morning at the breakfast table.

She doesn't think that what she did was wrong. She can't keep sneaking out and putting herself in danger like that.

What do you intend to do?

I have already confined her to the castle but she still needs to face some consequences for her actions. Should we Ban her from visiting the market, playing games or from horse riding?

Council Meeting

Thank you, everyone, for dropping what you were doing and coming to this emergency council meeting. I know that we had already planned to meet this evening but these matters couldn't wait. You all know about Radovia, our neighbours. The mountain pathways are treacherous but I'm sure that you've all heard of them in some way, either news from passing tradesmen or the wild stories that have been passed down from our ancestors. They are a savage people who live in a savage land and they have openly attacked one of our villages. The King is visibly shaken by the news of all of this and we may need to start preparing for war. To be honest with you all, the King seemed rather shaken before we even heard the news. Stan the General managed to take one of their force captive and was able to bring him back to the castle alive. I thought that King Eryk was about to vomit as soon as he saw the prisoner.

We need to make a decision about what to do about this Radovian prisoner. We currently have him detained but he can't stay chained up for much longer, we either need to lock him up or get rid of him in one way or another. We could execute the prisoner, which is a fitting punishment after he and his men attacked one of our villages. We can also throw him into the dungeon, he deserves a worse fate but there's always a chance that we can get more information out of him by talking to him or with other methods... Or we can be merciful, it may be abhorrent to some of you to let this barbarian go but we may be able to open communications between their people and our own.

We also seem to have a spate of missing children lately. A peasant has approached the King and asked for his help in locating his son. We can offer him 7 gold to help in his search or we could send Stan the General out to track him down but he will be gone for two weeks. Or we could just send him on his way, but he looked so desperate he would probably end up paying us to help him.

Lord Etton has graced us with his visit, but unfortunately, it's not a happy one. His daughter has been kidnapped and the bandits are demanding a ransom. Lord Etton has tracked down the bandits and we could send Stan the General on a rescue mission, which means that he will be gone for two weeks or we can pay the ransom of 12 gold pieces. We can refuse Lord Etton and send him on his way, but in doing so it may harm the King's friendship with him in the long run.

The only other business left to discuss is the refurbishment of the theatre. We can either repair it now if we have the resources to spare or we can leave it for now. We do have some time to spare but we will need to do something about it soon.

I will now open the room up for discussion.

I keep trying to create a new gif for the cat petting but there seems to be a weird fault with the animation when it come to converting it. It may be the site that I'm using but it did work the first time around. I've recorded several videos at different points but I get the same fault and I've not encountered it with any other of the gifs that I've created.

I'll try to find something else to use but everything else that I've found so far that's free hasn't had the editing tools that I need.

It seems like the voting is winding down and each option has a clear winner. I need to work out what would happen in the event of a tie or a losing state, just in case.

These are the results from the council meeting:

No Market 5
No Games
No Horses 8
Do Not Punish 1 (Unfortunately, we can only pick one of the above three options)

Imprison 14
Execute 1
Mercy

Give Money 9
Send General 4
Nothing 2

Pay Ransom 4
Send General 11
Nothing

Theatre 5
No Theatre 11

I'll work on the next update and will hopefully have something up within the next few days.

The game just labels these people as 'Peasant'. If any of you want to start giving these people names then I'm up for suggestions. I can always change some of the names retroactively if need be.

Let's Play: Yes, Your Grace - (05) Week Two Summary

Minutes taken from the second meeting of the council.

Let's open up by discussing why I've called this emergency meeting in the first place.

Quackles: Sorry I'm late, my horse got stuck in traffic.

That's quite alright, this isn't our agreed-upon meeting time and you have taken time out of your busy morning to attend this meeting. All of your efforts will be noted and we will try to compensate anyone for any losses during peak business hours. That may take some time as the treasury is very bare at this moment, but I will provide you all with forms at the end of the meeting and we will work something out in the future. Now then, what should we do about this Radovian?

SimplyUnknown1: With the Radovian prisoner, I do not believe releasing him would be wise as for the moment, he is nothing more than a bandit. Execution, on the other hand, would take time and could potentially send the wrong message to the Radovian people if he turns out to be more important than we realize. Thus, I believe we should imprison him. Not only is it safer, any information he has could be something we need at the moment. We can always choose to execute him later.

Asterite34: We can imprison him and THEN execute him, but we can't do the reverse. If we keep him alive, he might divulge some useful information, and we are currently at an alarming info deficit regarding the disposition of the enemy forces or how the hell they got here.

Slaan I am afraid that if we release the prisoner he will report on our lack of defenses and bring down even more banditry upon us, or worse. An execution could also create a worse reprisal in the future. Just hold him for info for now.

sullat: The penalty for brigandage is death, the people want to see justice.

I'm glad that we kicked that drunkard out of the cell, otherwise, we'd have nowhere to keep the Radovian. Most people are in agreement that we should lock him up for the time being. Let's move on to this peasant whose child is missing. What are your opinions on this matter?

dotchan: Alas, we can only send the General to one place, so 7 gold it is. Hopefully this pays off with more info than that, but priority should definitely be to the child.

Bregor: Give seven gold to the peasant. I can think of no more urgent issue than a missing child, and if we can rescue the boy and shed some light on the other cases of children gone missing, so much the better.

Kobanya: Use the gold to retrieve the peasant's child. The thought of that poor dear being held captive by brigands brings a tear to my eye.

sullat: Send him on his way I'm sure the peasant kid is fine.

Black Robe: Give the peasant some money to find his child. The royal kids are immensely annoying but I'm sure we'd be devastated if any of them were missing.

Slaan Send him on his way. I feel for this peasant but we can't use the realm's military or gold for one child. If we didn't have Lord Etton's issue it would be easier to send the General, but we do, unfortunately, have larger issues

Quackles: For the peasant, money to help his search might be ideal, so that we can send the General to rescue the Lord's kid.

SimplyUnknown1: I do not believe sending the petitioners away without aid is a wise thing. However, we must take one thing into account. Lord Etton has given us two options to help save his daughter; paying the ransom or sending General Stan to aid him in fighting the kidnappers. The peasant, whose name is unknown, (we really should start taking notes about that, it sounds so rude to call them 'peasant',) only asked for the aid of our general.

Attempting a raid on the kidnappers is far too dangerous; it could result in the lady being killed, even with General Stan's aid. So I recommend paying the ransom. This would also leave us free to send General Stan to help find the missing child. I am aware that there is a difference of 5 gold between these options, but we know for certain that paying would sway the kidnappers. We don't know the trouble the boy has gotten into, and money may be of no help at all.

We seem to be muddying the waters with both children at once. I'll tell the King to offer the peasant seven gold pieces. Does anyone else have further thoughts on Lord Etton and his child?

Slaan: Send the General for Lord Etton. We can't negotiate with terrorists. If we pay the ransom then more and more bandits and others will attempt to kidnap the children of our nobles. We need to deal with this harshly, not by giving into their demands.

Bregor: Send Stan the General to deal with the bandits. We must keep our relationships with the lords of our land very close, and along with the peasant’s case this sounds very urgent.

dotchan: We do not negotiate with terrorists, even if these "terrorists" turn out to be some poor sod who eloped with one of my subject's daughters and then said something stupid in the heat of the moment afterward. If we are eventually going to war to keep our daughter from getting pawned off to keep the peace our troops will need the practice and the General is the best man to lead them.

I will send Stan the General to Lord Etton's estate as soon as the King gives the command. I hope that he finds that poor child alive and unharmed. Now that those matters are settled, we must discuss repairs on the theatre.

NeoRonTheNeuron: Fix it now. The theater is decently important. We would run out of gold doing this, but it seems like the cost of dilemmas isn't too big each week.

Kobanya: I fear that the others would break into an argument if I suggested it, so I suppose for now do not pay to repair the theatre. With all due respect, my Grace, if you would let me put on a show in the marketplace, that would likely do something to raise folks' spirits.

PurpleXVI: Leave the theater alone for now.

Black Robe: Leave the theatre for now, we'll deal with it when there isn't a crisis going on or when we've got enough spare cash that it doesn't matter.

sullat: Repair the Theatre. Until the economy recovers and our defenses are repaired we can't really afford luxuries.

Black Robe: Leave the theatre for now, we'll deal with it when there isn't a crisis going on or when we've got enough spare cash that it doesn't matter.

Bregor: Leave the theater be for now. We must be economical with our gold, and as everyone has said this is a high amount of petitioners. There are more important things to deal with.

I've heard enough for now! This is a topic with much debate but a decision needs to be made otherwise we will be here all day. The majority of people are in favour of leaving the repairs for another week and that is what we are going to do. Thank you for your time! We shall meet again next week at the usual time unless another emergency happens. The King is expecting me back in his throne room so please forgive me for not providing you with the normal formalities of saying goodbye. The servants will see to all your needs on your way out.

Thank you, everyone, for returning so quickly. A decision has been made for each of you.

I returned as soon as I received word, Your Grace.

Throw him into the Dungeon. You Will rot in a cell.

Don't want to let me go, but you don't have the guts to kill? My friends will gladly hear about your cowardly decisions!

I need to see Aurelea about this...

All we can offer is seven gold pieces. I believe this should be enough to cover your loss.

Your Grace, do you really think that gold can replace my son? I had better look for help elsewhere...

Welcome back Lord Etton, I'll give you a General to help deal with these kidnappers. Pay them once and they will only want more. This is the best option.

You're right. Send the General my way and I will tell him my plan. Thank you, Your Grace. Good, good, good. It has to work...

Sit with Asalia. Ask how she feels. Do not command. They need a father, not a king… respectively of course!

This is about both. If anyone recognised her, if something happened... I understand that she wants to see more of the world but she must also understand that there are people who would hurt one of us just for who we are. I'll tell Audry to stop her horse riding lessons for now. Now that the Radovians have returned and are openly attacking our villages it would be unwise for her to be caught unawares riding around the countryside.

I heard that you did sent the bandit to the dungeons. Maybe you could question him, see what he knows.

I will see what I can do...

Your mother and I have decided that not only are you confined to the castle, but you are also banned from horse riding. I'll tell Audry to suspend your riding lessons for now. Just in case you had an idea to ride off to Praciss or Caladur.

What Am I supposed to do inside these godforsaken walls?! AGHH! Stupid Lorsulia. I'll teach her a lesson!

Stop with the names!

I didn't think a King would come down to the Dungeons. An honor, truly.

Enough of the games! Tell me what you know. Why are you here?

I suppose that's one way of killing time in this murky den. You see... Beyran, that lunatic, thinks everyone will follow him, ha ha! Keeps raving about some promise. One of the seven Kings will give him his daughter. He thinks that he's got a chance at mingling with the royals. I still can't decide. Is he the mad one, or is it his followers, who believe this bunk, who are really insane?

You will stay here a while longer. Maybe you'll be useful.

Sure, as long as I don't die from boredom first.

End of Week Two!

It'll be interesting to learn more about Beyran's motivations. Is "mingling with the royals" just a path to power or does he actually want to bring his Radovian raiders in from the cold into a more "civilized" society? Maybe it'll turn out he's not such a bad guy!

EDIT: Update on the previous page.

Maybe we will all have a big party and we will all be friends forever?

Black Robe posted:

Wait, the gold was supposed to be compensation?

I thought it was to help him hire people to find the kid, not us just being an asshat.

That was an error on my own behalf. The option in the game is "All we can offer is 7G.", which is deliberately obtuse and it won't be the last time that we will see choices like this. It was during the council meeting that I mentioned giving him gold to help search for the son as a bit of narrative but I forgot to consult the actual dialogue while writing. I'll be more careful with this in the future, luckily this was a case of we either send the General or he walks out so this would have happened regardless. If we had refused him outright then he would have offered us a gold piece to send the General.

Edit: I could use the obtuse choices to make Eryk look even more like an asshat.

I decided to play through and transcribe the petitioners for the following week as I won't be able to do any work this weekend. I thought that I'd at least make a start on things and also to see what crops up. Seeing as I won't be free to do any work over the weekend I'll keep things open in regards to the theatre until Monday.

The theatre does need to be fixed as any further bleed in happiness could bite us on the rear end in the long run as we won't be able to please everyone. But it will also leave us with 8 gold to start the next week out with. Although, if the peasant had accepted the money it would have left us with 11 gold anyway.

We currently have four votes in favour of fixing the theatre.

So they do have a King after all... And where there's a King, an army follows. What promise are they babbling about, anyway?

To take my daughter's hand.

I didn't think I would have to keep my word.

We can't let barbarians seize the throne! Our treasury is low, but we can always seek allies. I will let you get on with the audits, and I'll make some preparations in the meantime. I will be in the Council Chamber, Your Grace.

I'm here representing Bank de Florentini, Your Grace. I hear that your treasury has seen better times. But I'm here to help!

How does all this work again?

We understand that sometimes it's hard to be a King and we want to do our BEST to help. We offer quick and easy solutions to give you a surge of gold or supplies, whichever you may be in need of! Our exclusive package offers 50 gold or supplies, instantly available for your use. The bank only adds a small fee of 10 gold or supplies, depending on the type of loan. It's paid off in weekly amounts of 10 until you pay off your... debt, Your Grace. We won't charge you any additional costs. Oh! Last thing to note: we only do one type of loan at a time. So if you want to borrow gold, we can't lend you supplies until the first loan is repaid, And vice versa. And remember! The first loan is free of charge! You just pay back what you take.

Thank you for gracing us with your visit. My advisor isn't with me right now to discuss our current resources but if you would like to stay and make use of our hospitality I will return with an answer shortly.

Your Grace, injustice and hunger have struck our village. Men, dressed in black, came and took our stock. Hardly anything left worth giving to the dogs now. I wanted to kindly ask for 7 pieces of gold. Or 5 sacks of supplies, Your Grace. That way we can at least keep our children fed.

I come with a business proposition, Your Grace. I need 12 gold to hire men and buy resources to build a new tavern in Branca. You see... the tavern will serve as more than just a way for locals to get drunk. The village is really well positioned. It has many visitors, but they never stay for long. A new tavern will change that and will guarantee a steady income. I will share the profits, once I start making money on the business.

Your Grace, a disease is crawling in our village. It's nothing serious, I don't think, but fevers and sneezes are all over the place. It appeared out of nowhere. As if a dark force brought it upon us!

I will give each of you an answer shortly, please wait in the lobby will I decide on what to do.

Everything seems to be quiet in the castle today. I must visit Audry in the council chamber as we have much to discuss. It appears like there is another order of business to attend to while I'm there.

Your Grace, I appointed a scout. He will let us know what we're up against. Meanwhile, we should invite King Talys. He might be able to help.

We can talk to the nearby lords. But first I would suggest inviting Talys. Here you can view details of each of your potential allies. You need to have a pigeon available in order to send an invite.

Great, Talys should visit us within a week. With his army, we should be able to repel Radovia. No matter what they come up with.

Thank you, Audry. Tell me about our battle preparations.

What would you like to know about, Your Grace?

Is our army ready to confront the enemy?

We don't know what we're up against, but with our current army, we couldn't even defend against peasants with shovels. Svetovid himself would have to help us. Finding allies will be vital if we want to stand a chance.

Hey there... Pumpkin!

Pumpkin? That's new. I like it! Your Grace.

Cedani, I always tell you not to play here.

But this is my... most cherished place in the cas... fortress! Oh, you have the most finest items here, Father! Pleeeeeease! Let me stay here! I won't break anything, I promise!

I'm not sure whether your mother will be happy with this, I will discuss it with her first!

Yes, Father.

Family Matters

We need to talk about Cedani. I caught her hanging around the council chambers again.

You know how much she looks up to you. She's always interested in anything to do with this castle and your work. Besides, the council chamber is empty six days of the week and all she wants to do is play in there.

The council chamber is no place for children, there are sensitive documents and fragile relics in there! Should I really let her stay or should I tell her to go and play in the gardens if she wants to play in the future?

Council Meeting

Welcome back to the third council meeting. Apologies to anyone who wasn't able to attend the previous meeting, transcripts of the meeting have been made available for every one to view. There aren't any emergencies this week, thankfully, but rest assured knowing that the Radovians will no longer be a threat. I won't dally around this news as the King has invited King Talys to our castle and there is no doubt that an alliance will be struck. King Talys commands an army of three thousand soldiers which should be more than enough to defeat those barbarians. We only have one week to prepare for his visit and we need to make sure that everything runs smoothly.

It's now time to discuss today's news. The King decided to authorise the building of the theatre without discussing it with me first. I know we all voted to leave the repairs for another time, but the King has heard about a new play being performed in Caladur and he wants to see it performed here in Grevno. Our gold supplies have unexpectedly dropped but there may be a solution to this. The King was visited by a representative from the Bank de Florentini who was offering to provide a loan of fifty gold pieces or fifty units of supplies now, or at any point in the future. The usual fee is paying back an additional ten resources but they are willing to waive this for our first loan. Our supplies are at a somewhat healthy level at the moment but our gold is running low after the King's unexpected investment. Should we borrow fifty gold, fifty supplies or send him on his way? We can send a pigeon to the Bank of Florentini at any time in the future to summon them back to the court to discuss finances.

Our first petitioner arrived from a nearby village which had been attacked and robbed by men wearing black. We can provide them with five supplies, give them five gold pieces or just send him on his way.

We also have another investment opportunity, a villager from Branca is asking for twelve gold to build a new tavern. The location is in a prominent position and he has promised a share in the profits. The issue is that he is asking for twelve gold pieces and the treasury isn't able to cover the costs right now. If we accept the loan from the Bank of Florentini we will be able to invest now, but we need to make sure that we have enough money to pay them back over the next five weeks. If we take the loan we can invest twelve gold pieces or we could tell him to come back another time. Although, the longer that we wait to invest means the longer it will take for the profits to start filling the treasury. We could also decline his offer and tell the villager that we can't take the risk.

The last petitioner arrived with news that her village is currently suffering from a sickness. She believes that it's the result of dark forces but that's most likely superstition. We can either give them seven supplies or we can give them five supplies to help with their recovery. Or this is really some superstitious nonsense and they can just wait it out.

The Grey Mountains. Lulie loves them. We're lucky to have such a beautiful landscape. These fields used to be covered in forests. Our agriculture is thriving.

The votes seem to be at a natural conclusion and there is a clear winner in each category. Three people didn't specify the amount of supplies to send to the final peasant's village, feel free to clarify if you want to but I've added them to the seven pile for now.

Let Cedani stay - 9
Tell Cedani to leave - 3

Take the loan - 10
Don't take the loan - 2

Give five supplies - 12
Give five gold -
Send him on his way -

Invest twelve gold - 11
Tell him to come back - 1
Don't take the risk -

Give seven supplies - 9
Give five supplies - 3
Give nothing -

I'm going to do start some preliminary work tomorrow but the next update will probably happen on Wednesday.

Unless a disaster happens I'm going to post the next update tomorrow. It's only going to be a short one and I was hoping to have it up sooner, but my partner had a death in the family recently so the LPs have had to take a bit of a back seat for a short time. I'm aiming to have another update done over the weekend but first I need to get this one up. Most of the prep work is done already, I just need to add the council meeting and add a bit of narrative to the game dialogue.

Let's Play: Yes, Your Grace - (07) Week Three Summary

Council Meeting

Welcome back, everyone. It's now time to reconvene our council meeting after our short break. The Bank de Florentini has offered us a very generous deal with loaning gold or supplies from them. Should we take up their offer?

Slaan: We don't have the gold to invest at this point, but can't afford a loan either.

Black Robe: Take the gold loan, I'm sure nothing bad can come of this (and it won't be my kneecaps getting broken when it does....)

I didn't quite hear that last part, could you repeat it?

Black Robe: I said that I'm very pleased that we could broker a deal.

FoolyCharged: Take the gold loan an interest free loan is a chance to invest in more income and come out with more than we borrowed after we repay it.

Quackles: I'm going to abstain on the loan, but if we do take the loan then I vote to finance the tavern.

PurpleXVI: A loan to make some investments is a good move.

Level Seven: Take a gold loan, we need gold to produce more avenues of earning more gold/supplies and an interest-free loan loses us nothing if we don't be stupid with it.

McGavin: Take a gold loan ASAP. There is literally no downside to it.

Bregor: Take the loan of fifty gold pieces but be mindful not to spend it quickly, your Grace. The kingdom seems to have a small but steady income and several investment opportunities before us. If your Grace can repay this initial, interest-free loan and grow our coffers, there will be no further need of dealings with the Bank de Florentini.

There is arguments for both sides but it seems like the general consensus is take out a loan. We are the people in control of the treasury so we will make sure that it's spent wisely. Unless the King decides to spend money on a new circus or a jousting field when he's feeling bored and whimsical... Ahem, may our liege have a long and prosperous reign. Let's move on to this business of the village that's been stricken with illness. Shall we send aid or shall we tell them to deal with it themselves?

Level Seven: Send five supplies, I don't believe in magic enough to send seven but five should be enough to aid the ill.

Bregor: As for the men clad in black pillaging our towns, send the people five supplies to ease their minds and nourish their bodies. There have been a disturbing number of incidents beyond our castle walls. I know we have but one general at the moment, but hopefully there will be good news on the bandits' apprehension, or... a cleaner solution.

FoolyCharged: Give the village 7 supply resources to deal with the illness. Whatever the cause, if large groups of people are falling ill, it can spread quickly out of control. It does no good to raise an army against these brigands if all our men are with fever when the big battle comes.

Quackles: We can easily send 5 supplies to one village and 7 to the other without straining our resources too much, so let's do that.

CzarChasm: We have the supplies to spare for now, give five and seven to the people asking

sb hermit: I suggest we send supplies to the raided village to help them out, and send 5 supplies to the village stricken by sickness since “it’s nothing serious”.

Tenebrais: Give the villages 5 and 7 supplies, since we're currently just stockpiling them.

It seems like you've answered this question as well as another question that I was going to ask. We will give both villages supplies from our own stock. Even though our King is on the brink of securing an alliance with King Talys, we will still need to build an army of our own just in case the Radovians do decide to attack. We won't be able to build an army if our villages are rife with sickness or detroyed by bandits. The last order of business is the business proposition to build a new tavern. After we take this loan we will surely have enough to invest if we so wish.

FoolyCharged: Invest in the tavern. Speaking of those ruffians, they burned down my favorite watering hole the other day. I can't handle sobriety! Erm.... I meant, this is a valuable financial investment that could benefit the kingdom in the long term.

Bregor: Using the funds from the bank, I suggest the kingdom invest in the tavern. I agree with Audry -- the longer we wait to fund a good opportunity, the longer until it pays dividends. Between the inn your Grace has already financed and this tavern, the people will come to our kingdom for rest and refreshment more than ever before!

Slaan: Tell the tavern investor to return later.

Black Rober: Send gold to the man wishing to build a tavern, I have a feeling we're all going to need plenty to drink.

Level Seven: Invest in the tavern, the earlier it opens the sooner an investment can pay off.

The majority of people have decided that they want to invest in this new tavern. That is everything, for now, we shall all meet again next week. Thank you, everyone, for your time. This meeting is now concluded.

Family Matters

Cedani will may one day be ruling in her own right some day. Let her stay, although you may want to tell Audry to keep her supervised while she is in there. You must also take extra care not to leave valuable documents or artefacts within her reach.

Thank you for your patience, I have reached a decision with each of your petitions. I will start with the Bank de Florentini, I want to borrow gold.

We can offer 50 gold, repayable over five weeks. Remember, the first loan is free of charge!

I will take it.

Perfect. Anything else, Your Grace?

That's all for now.

The Bank de Florentini is always happy to help!

Take these supplies. Feed your children well.

That will be enough to keep us going for a couple of weeks! Gods favor you!

I have decided to take you up on your business proposition. Take this gold and let the business grow!

Oh, wonderful! You won't regret it, Your Grace! I will get right on with the work! 8 solid tables, 13 beds... We could make a cheaper, shared chamber... Oh, it's going to work well!

Take these supplies. Give them out in your village. Make sure everyone has access to what they need.

Thank you, Your Grace! We are beyond content! I hope that the spirits will keep you well!

Fine, you can stay. As long as you don't damage anything.

Oh yes! Thank you, Fa... Your Grace. Wooooo, let's see what else is here!

I will see you later, Pumpkin. I should take a look around myself to see if there is anything sensitive or valuable that shouldn't fall into her hands. There is nothing useful in this chest; just a pile of rubbish. This bookshelf contains just books and plenty of them. This side table of food is very useful for long meetings. These antlers come from the biggest deer in Davern. Aurelea made these tapestries, this one shows a stork - it's our house emblem. I bought this globe on the market. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it looks nice. Aurelea loves to knit! She leaves balls of wool everywhere.

End Of Week Three!

Thank you for all of your kind words.

Each room contains various background objects that we can examine, hence the extra text with Eryk in the Council Chambers. I'm trying to include one room per update, I explored the dungeons, castle wall and courtyard in previous updates. I'd like to keep doing this but it always looks a little disjointed and I'm not sure how else I can make it look neater.

Thank you once again. Things have started to normalise and I've spent most of the late evening working on the next update. It's now getting late so I'll be putting the finishing touches onto it in the morning. I just need to capture an unexpected scene which popped up after I hit the end-of-week button, one that I wasn't prepared for. I also need to write up the council meeting. The next update should be happening tomorrow if nothing goes wrong. It's going to be a big one for dialogue and for plot.

Let's Play: Yes, Your Grace - (08) An Interesting Proposal

I bring news about Lord Etton's case, Your Grace. With his plan, my squad and I managed to take his daughter back.

Hardly any light can get through these windows. These halls used to shine, Eryk.

FATHER! Look what she did! Asalia has put... faeces under my pillow. How can I ever wash it off?! Why did you tell her I told on her?!

Can you not see we have a guest?! Go back to your chamber! Now!

There's always people in here!

We'll deal with that later. Scuttle off for now.

But- Ugh!

If you can't even control your children, then I'm surprised you still sit where you do. And that I'm still standing where I am.

Forgive me, we have had a lot going on recently.

I'm asking if you're going to make me stand like a commoner here.

Oh, of course. Let's talk in the Council Room.

Huh, you have a lot of old books... What is she doing in here?! Are you letting children play with your archives? Girl! Begone! Are you a King or a blasted nanny, Eryk?

What can be so important that you couldn't just send me a pigeon?

I will be straightforward with this. I need an army. Radovia has threatened me and my family.

Ha! Radpvoa?! Here?

Yes, they-

They're simple men. Untrained. Tell you what... I will give you three thousand soldiers. My army can deal with anything they throw its way.

What?! Just like that?

Feh, of course not! You see... My son, Ivo, has been crying and moaning to me about finding him a princess. He's always bothering me. It's about time he grew up. A wife would keep him busy. Out of my way. Lorsulia would be good enough for him... She could teach him a thing or two... I also want access to the fine collection of books you have here... Plus anything else you can find.

You still seek cures for your wife? Her condition hasn't improved?

Well... That does not concern you. You get an army - I get Lorsulia and access to these books.

So an army, for a marriage in return...

Yes, of course. You catch on quickly. I'll send my armies right away.

But we'll do it on my terms. I can't just let you take my daughter for a few hundred men...

Come on now, Eryk. We both know Davern has seen better times... When Radovia comes, who will protect your people, your family? Are you going to order peasants to fight them with pitchforks? Fine, I can give you 3000 extra men, throw in 22 extra gold or I can provide you with a general. I'll give you some time to think it over. I will send an army straight away, but I want access to the archives. The marriage can be organised later... Let me get lost in your books, then. I think I will start from this room. Let's see... What do we have here...?

How is your wife? I haven't seen Paloma in years... Does the illness persist?

Why are you so curious about her? Yes, she is still sick! Otherwise, I wouldn't even be here. But like I told you already... It's none of your business!

What's going on in Atana? Did Yeles and Berravia resolve their wars yet? What were they fighting about again? Land! Witchcraft?

I don't know and I don't care to find out. I have my own problems.

Is everything alright in Hagos? I've always wanted to visit your beautiful town.

Why don't you? Go and see for yourself what it's like. Better than this rat hole.

How is Ivo? I'd like to know a little about your son before... you know... The marriage...

What's there to say? Ivo has royal blood and I pay enough for his masters to ensure that he's at least half as smart as I am. Can't you just leave me alone, Eryk?! I'm trying to focus here!

Did you find anything yet? Are those books of any use?

Healing fever... How to prevent dysentery... Something about malaria... All of these are USELESS!

We can go ahead with the wedding. I'll be in the Throne Room if you need me. Read as much as you like...

Apologies for making you wait, Lord Etton. How can I help you today?

Your grace, my daughter is back! Those goons didn't even know what hit them, and we hit them hard! If it wasn't for your General, I'm not sure if my plan would have worked. Take this gold as a thank you, Your Grace.

Please tell me about our battle preparations, Audry.

With Talys' army we will crush the Radovian forces. We just need to focus on our kingdom and get ready for the wedding, Your Grace.

Thank you, Audry. I should tell Aurelea about the deal that I've made with King Talys. You'd better send two bodyguards with my to my bed chamber as I don't know how she is going to take the news of the upcoming marriage...

Darling?

Lorsulia is getting married.

What? No! Did Beyran find us? We can't let him!

Lorsulia will marry Ivo, the Prince of Atana. I made a treaty with Talys. Marriage for army in return.

No! We cannot let her marry a barbarian! Eryk, you said you would find a way! Wait... Ivo? That's... That's good! That's great! Ivo is a Prince after all and if Lorsulia is married to Ivo, then Beyran can't do anything. Talys' army might simply scare them away. Oh, this is fantastic news, Eryk! Wonderful! Who's going to prepare the wedding? Guests, menus... We need to decorate the throne room. We need to buy flowers and decorations! Ohhh! And we need a band too!

I'll take care of that. We'll see how our treasury looks at the end of the week.

Does Lorsulia know yet?

No, I came straight to you.

I see. She's been acting up lately. Maybe it's better if I tell her. Actually... no. You talk to her. I will get on with the preparations!

How are you holding up?

I'm well. I think I might actually sleep tonight. Hang on... No! Everything's on my head! What shall we eat? Where will I get a dress? I think things will turn out perfectly fine. Thank you, my dear.

See? I told you. Get some rest, now.

Fine. I will stay here.

I will go and speak with Lorsulia.

Oh, it's you.

There is something I need to tell you... We have no choice... You must marry Ivo, the Prince of Atana. It's... I'm sorry...

What do you mean? Don't I get a say in this?

We need this marriage to secure an army that will defend us. A war is coming.

So I'm going to be sacrificed? Did you even consider any other options? Did you even try to offer something other than your daughter?

Well...

I knew it! I knew the day I'm old enough, you would just sell me to the highest bidder! You've been waiting for this! You can't wait to get rid of me, can you? I wish I was a common girl, living in a village, having nothing to worry about! Being able to marry the one I love, not some snob I've never met! Stupid wedding! Stupid Prince! You're stupid!

At least you still love me, Dusty.

Meow!

Now it's time to see what Asalia has to say for herself!

Asalia...? Huh, of course she's not here...

Your Grace.

How are you doing?

You're a King, so why do you listen to the man in the council chamber, Father?

Well... he's a King too, you know.

But you're a better King! He should listen to YOU!

Yes, yes... Keep your voice down, Pumpkin. I must go and attend to some business, if you see Asalia tell her that I'm looking for her!

It had better be something important at this ungodly hour!

Your Grace, Radovian forces have been spotted nearby! We should send out men to track them down.

They've come for Lorsulia! Eryk, we must do something

I will deal with this in the morning!

Council Meeting

Welcome, everyone, to today's council meeting. We have several articles to discuss today and we shall begin with an urgent matter. We have received news that Radovian forces that have been spotted nearby. Should we send General Stan to investigate, bearing in mind he will be gone for two weeks, or shall we remain calm and keep him here?

This matter may be trivial. As you all know, King Talys is here and he has pledged 3000 soldiers to defend Davern from the Radovians. We will be able to repel any forces that they throw against us, but it will still be useful to know their numbers and their position.

Now that the more urgent matters have been discussed it's now time to move on to some very happy news. King Eryk's daughter, Lorsulia, is now betrothed to King Talys' son Ivo. This betrothal will secure an alliance between our kingdoms and it means that we will remain protected from the Radovian threat. With this proposal comes an offer from King Talys to strengthen our alliance even further.

King Talys is offering to give us 3000 extra men, throw in 22 extra gold or provide us with a general. Extra soldiers will be helpful in this time of war, we don't know how many people are in the Radovian army so the more people we have to protect the kingdom the better. Extra money will always be welcome, we are currently making a small profit each week but we still have a loan to pay back and a wedding to pay for. An extra General will also be very invaluable as we currently only have General Stan to rely on at the moment and when he is away we aren't able to deal with any other problems that may arise in our kingdom. The choice is up to you all.

And yes, you all heard me correctly, we will be the ones paying for this wedding. The Queen's oldest child is getting married to a Prince and she wants to make this the most lavish wedding of the century. Here is the projected overview of this weeks finances.

The wedding will take place in four weeks time and we need to start preparing as soon as possible. We are making a profit of 3 gold a week after our loan payments to the bank which means we are able to pay for everything upfront and still have money in the treasury, but we don't know what emergencies may befall us in the coming weeks. Money is a bit of an issue at the moment but on the plus side, we have a healthy amount of supplies coming in, a sizeable army and the people are getting happier every week.

Should we buy the flowers, buy fabrics and/or hire a band this week?

We are also able to invite another potential ally to the court. Should we send an invite to Ada or do we wait for another time? We do have a lot to deal with currently but we always have time to make new friends, sixty extra soldiers is still a worthy amount of people to join our army.

I decided to look at a couple of video on YouTube just to clarify some things. It doesn't matter if you send Stan on a mission or not, no payment to him will be given.

Edit: The original information was false. All of our agents are funded from our treasury. I've provided the relevant information in a later post.

I'm not sure why we were paying Stan out of the treasury for the first couple of weeks and I don't actually know if there is an in-game reason for this. But as of now, those payments have ended.

No it's not possible to choose anyone else for Lorsulia to marry. Even though you can influence how things happen in the main plot, some events are going to happen in the game regardless of your choices.

That's about as much as I'm willing to reveal right now. Even with spoilers I don't want to let anything slip. We will have the chance to ruin improve many people's lives over the coming weeks.

I've been looking further into Stan's payments and I can now give you a definitive answer. The game doesn't explain this but every time that you use an agent you do pay them from your treasury. It's just that for, some reason, if you send Stan on this particular mission it doesn't seem to cost anything.

The General that King Talys is going to provide us will be funded entirely by King Talys himself, which means that every time that we use this General it will cost us nothing.

I believed that the agent was paid per mission as it had always been before up until now. But it confused the hell out of me when the payment for Stan was missing this week.

Normally I don't make aesthetic criticisms in other peoples' homes, but that rug looks like a beaver exploded. If meat is murder, then that rug is at least a severe beating.
I've edited a post further above with false information. I apologise for the misinformation, everything that I was looking at before was giving conflicting information. I eventually found some clarifications from the developer's themselves.

The votes are in. I have two days off but it's the school holidays here so I won't be able to work on much until the evenings. I'm going to try to have the next update done by Wednesday night.

Send General - 9
Remain Calm -

3000 Soldiers - 1
22 Gold -
General - 10

Flowers - 1
Fabrics - 5
Band - 4

Invite Ada Yay - 10
Invite Ada Neigh -

I'm surprised more people didn't vote on the flowers as our supplies are at a healthy level and we're getting 9 a week. The voting for fabrics and the band were very close but I'll just purchase the fabrics for now as most of the votes were singular.

Edit: I missed one of the votes.
