Got my first win last night :toot:

(after many runs of bashing my head against a brick wall)! Got The Window as my first boss, went "right well after this I need to specialise into diamonds because I (presumably) won't be getting this boss again", the DNA Joker let me get lots of copies of things like the Ace and Jack of Diamonds (at the cost of a few tight rounds where I only just squeaked the number of chips I needed to beat the blind), and then things like this started happening

(which generated 55,330 chips). I know it's not much in the grand scheme of things, but it's good to finally get that first win.

As well as the aforementioned DNA Joker (with support from the Hanging Chad Joker helping to make the most of those single-card hands) and the obvious power of the Scholar and Greedy Joker for this particular run, shout outs to Hiker and Constellation for giving me the staying power to cope with the increasingly nasty blinds. Although I eventually lost to the small blind in Ante 10 - those post-game numbers get nasty huh.

Is it just pure luck, getting high powered jokers early or what? Is a certain deck easier on the Green Stake?

So far I've only beaten Green Stake with the Yellow, Checkered and Plasma Decks, though of course you won't have access to Plasma yet (and unless you've won with the infamous Black Deck you won't have access to Checkered either). I'd recommend trying Yellow Deck, the +$10 starting money is really +$12 thanks to interest and having that extra starting money gives you more chances to, like you say, get lucky with a powerful early joker, whether through a reroll or simply being able to capitalise on opportunities by affording some amazing joker that showed up randomly in the first shop.

Of course you do have to win Green Stake with all jokers eventually, but you've gotta start somewhere, and Yellow is definitely a good option there.

e: unrelatedly, I made a spreadsheet of my stake progress to date because that's the kind of silly thing I do. I like how immediately upon beating Blue Stake with one deck and unlocking Plasma Deck, I also get Plasma Deck up to Blue Stake :v:

Yeah I've used Card Sharp a few times and it can be fun, but it leaves me living in fear of, say, an Ante 7 The Eye or The Needle.

e: deck stake win progress report: first purple stake win with plasma, and getting green deck up to green stake and red deck up to red stake. Been bashing my head against getting blue deck to blue stake for a while, and :lol:

if you think I'm working on getting black deck to black stake any time soon.
