Hi friends. Not much NBA action but I think the offseason will be lit and the draft is coming up. Sorry rest of CSPAM but the NBA is politics now thanks to Kyrie Irving alone

I predict Hornets trade 2nd pick for Zion and we get LaMelo, wife beater, and pornstar sex haver on the same team

Which unregarded active journeyman will appear in the second row as the final Pop reclamation during Wemby's coronation? I'm calling Luwawu-Cabarrot.

Boston can afford to carry that when their core scorers aren't the ones oft injured. High risk high upside is great for players you weren't originally planning on starting anyway.

I thought this was a move that will reduce their regular season effectiveness and increase their postseason effectiveness, getting bigger to double on potential late round match-ups like Giannis, Joel, Nikola, or LeBron.

i feel dumb as poo poo watching basketball and trying to pretend to know what's good for the team but I cannot see how adding Chris Paul does anything for the aging Warriors.

I wonder what the average number of games played is going to be between Curry, Thompson, Paul and Green** (if he returns).

I'm also a certified Chris Paul hater so that might be blinding me because I've internalized and accepted as truth everything negative about him I've read online without critical thought.

I don't think it does a lot on the court, though I think trading Poole's minutes for CP3 minutes is an improvement. What it does do for them is take a bad contract off their books and make their stars happy that the front office is making moves for one last push, and they do that without mortgaging the future by overpaying some aging vet or similarly shaky move that hurts them when they go to rebuild.

He can stand there at the elbow like draymond did and hit cutters or open guys but he might also shoot the ball. It might be a disaster if they try and have him run around off ball like curry does.

If people think that poole shot the warriors out of games then cp3 won't do that

Why did the teams with the 10th and 12th picks trade those players after drafting them? 10 could have just picked the guy who went at 12 with the 10th overall pick if they wanted him that badly? This is a semi-serious question.

Being a T-Wolves fan is like being with a lovely S.O.

You know they mean well but it's nothing but constant, low-level frustration and disappointment with their decisions. And then they get their poo poo together for a little bit and you think that it could work, but then they leave the door open and your cat runs away or they get fired from their lovely job and start talking about marriage so you can be stuck subsidizing their mistakes forever and you just give up.

I think if it's anything the warriors do well it's integrate a player's particulars into their system. If they're looking at him for a one-to-one replacement for Poole on the second squad it's probably fine though that squad is going to need some revamping anyway. I don't really see how he fits into the first squad's system at all though and the potential (likely?) loss of Green is a much bigger problem they need to solve since it's his defense and passing that allows the shooters to shoot.

I'm not a CP3 fan really in any way and I think my wife had a point when she called it just trading one locker room cancer for another only this one will be in street clothes for the playoffs. This team is old and maybe has another run in them but I can't help but think the era of just bolting parts on to the functioning core is over and if they're going to win moving forward they're going to need some other offensive threat (and at the risk of sounding like Euph, probably a big who can generate points in the paint).

The Warriors have overpaid but they overpaid every step of the way on Poole, and only after the fact, after he helped win a ring. Won't miss the turnovers but those half-court shots were just perfect: stole the cheers right out from hostile throats at the road arenas, killed them when it wasn't Curry killing them.

I didn't think the Poole contract was bad because Poole was bad, but because it was paying penalty damages from mild workplace violence but under a salary cap. Now a salary cap that just got hard spikes installed on it. Shedding $68M of obligations to Poole in the two seasons starting in 2025 ending in 2027 is the correct thing to do.

The move improves the likelihood Draymond returns maybe slightly? In the short term, swapping a young shooting guard for an old point guard is correct because without Draymond Green the Warriors simply didn't have a proven dribbler or playmaker to back-up Curry. I was open to ramping up Wiggins and DiVincenzo's usage but that may be irresponsibly experimental.

The spacing will be really nice if Paul is healthy and Warriors can afford to run small. Two major ifs. Paul isn't an All-Star shooter anymore but Draymond Green was startlingly close to fumbling the 2022 Finals because Green isn't a point guard, his threes were terrible.

Looney is a perfect everyday big but say against the Lakers and the Nuggets, the Warriors are still ridiculously small. Centers also don't generally repeat 80 game seasons do they? Draymond testing the market leaves another depth chart hole at back-up center.

I admit I wanted Kristaps Porzingis on the Warriors. Got a Durant sized hole in my heart.

I was under the impression that DiVencenzo was as good as gone with the dubs rehabbing yet another guy out of their price range. I'm a little less sold on CP3 being a Green substitute because so much of what Green brings starts with his ability to gently caress up the opponent's offense at the other end. That said just a guy who looks like he's in charge would make a ton of difference when Curry sits, they looked absolutely lost in those minutes last season.

Looney's fine in the small ball West most of the time but Green plays bigger than his size and is always in there knocking balls (one kind or the other) whenever they're within reach which really compensates for lacking a true big man. The truth is they can use six more fouls in the post against teams that play well inside and just to give Looney some rest. A scoring threat is really necessary to sell the PNR at the foul line and opening up the arc for Curry and Klay who are not getting younger. The amount of movement and speed Curry uses to get shots simply can't be maintained that much longer at his age and they're going to need someone to pull the defense off him a little. I'm not sure such a guy exists to get, of course, but the team has shown in the past that with a passable guy in the paint they can turn him into something (something they can't afford the next year lol).

Durant is a generational player who obviously turned it to easy mode. Watching him flounder trying to superteam it elsewhere is a little sad (just a little) because while I'll readily concede that any team ready to win now and can sign Durant is definitionally a superteam, it's like come on, you're doing this why? Because Steph's the hometown favorite and you're an interloper? It's the same ring as his and here's the thing: you're going to be an interloper everywhere you go. It's such a bizarre exercise of ego to have left.

I can't bad mouth KD because it was an exercise of ego to join GSW in the first place. Having the temerity to claim you are among the greatest of all time is a right he's earned. His defense became so much more focused, gave everything for that three-peat try in Toronto. Lost to Giannis by a toe the year before, lost to the Jokic for lack of a point guard. (though I was impressed with Suns presumptive starting PG Cameron Payne in that blowout Game 6, second parenthetical I wonder if Warriors can find anybody like Jock Landale)

What was I saying? Oh yeah, I love and respect KD. If GSW crumbles due to poor health, PHX with Book and Beal are a compelling bandwagon. KD thinks that too much love isn't good for a competitor and in some ways I agree. I personally hope he can lead the expansion SuperSonics squad in six years when he's forty and gets that feeling he had of being the local hero again, but I don't think he even wants that. He's more like KG, intense and never willing to settle

Yeah, I guess we'll see what they do with Draymond but right now the only players they've got signed for more than $10 mil a year beyond next season are Curry and Wiggins. Curry is still worth his deal but could go south given his age. I suppose they could make me a fool and overpay Dray and Klay as a reward for past contracts, but hopefully they'll be smart and have them seek their payday elsewhere.
