Hugo was a beefy boy, it's amazing that they lost an engine and still got out of there.

Funny thing about Hugo, when it went over the US Virgin Islands it wrecked a bunch of stuff, including the Olympic class swimming pool. There was a young boy who was training to go into competitive swimming, but when it was wrecked he switched to basketball. That kid was future NBA All Star Tim Duncan.

Whoa, SCP up[dated their page design. Looks like the one I wrote and immediately abandoned is still the old page design, though.

It's a very good show that has been going for loving YEARS now.

The acting can be really loving bad too and I always end up feeling bad for chuckling when I hear poo poo like "That idiot's comin'!" on the Tenerife episode or "I am the problem" in the episode where a dude shot the flight crew and crashed the plane.

… correction: the forecast shows Lee *starting* to turn north today; it will start heading due north by Wednesday, when it will still be about 700 miles east of Florida.

As a Scotian (who lives right on the coast) I am stocking up on chef boyardee and instant rice after work tonight. Had no power for 3 days after Fiona last year, and I was one of the lucky ones. I tend to not be too alarmist about these things, an ounce of prevention and all that, but my local subreddit is slowly becoming an insufferable deluge of panic and "shut up doomer" posts.

I did get to spend the night of Fiona playing cribbage by candlelight and getting drunk while listening to CBC on a battery powered radio and that was kind of fun. But then a tree fell on my girlfriend's balcony and things got decidedly more serious.

My favorite part was at about 1am when her alcoholic neighbor went full Lt. Dan and was on his balcony yelling obscenities at the storm.

The tree fell about 10 minutes later and I feel like the universe really missed a prime moment of irony.

There's an outside chance it can still hit the US northeast, especially cause it's still just gonna do burnouts in the parking lot till Wed or Thurs. But yeah stay safe Nova Scotians.

I live near Toronto.

Some parts of Northern Ontario were on fire this summer I think, though probably not that bad. Or certainly not as bad as out west, but Southern Ontario, while having a bit more rain than normal for a summer (I don't think we went a week without *some* amount of rain) was quite non-burning this year, And last year, and the year before etc...

Fun discussion point: "Due to Lee's large size, hazards will extend well away from the center, and there will be little to no significance on exactly where the center reaches the coast."

This is shaping up to be a "traditional" extra-tropical storm hit like a noreaster on steroids but the well of thermodynamic energy being used is going to make it very interesting. Ex. the wind models are expected to be underestimating wind field as they don't have good examples of throwing this much energy at the coast extra-tropical style, but we know enough that when a storm goes extra tropical it does tend to barf it's energy all over and make much bigger fields than when it was organized around circulation to warn everyone generally in Maine and Nova Scotia.
