I like that almost all of the units in BAR look like the OTA ones filtered through a different art style and and have similar but different names. And then the basic T3 bots are almost 1:1 a Vulture, Owns and Catapult. The Catapult is even just named Catapult.

Why go through all of that effort to be off brand TA and then just rip poo poo from Battletech

also I stole a robot arm and gave it to him, I know about the peeler method but I think it's cooler if the robot limbs come naturally.

you train defense by enabling block mode and getting beaten to death by starving bandits

it does encourage city planning, traffic is so easy to manage that it's basically a non issue. you need mods to make it even remotely challenging. fortunately CS2 seems like it'll make things more difficult which is good

being a non-issue is precisely why it does not encourage city planning

You make it a non issue with basic planning though.

Don't build highways. Use a hierarchy of roads. Don't make stroads. Have any public transportation. Don't make industrial traffic ever drive on streets until they're at their destination. Build fewer intersections on grade separated roads.

I've seen tons of complaints about the impossible traffic sim from people with lovely planning saying that the game sucks because they can't fix traffic by adding more lanes

the fact that it's that simple is part of why it sucks. though the issue is probably more that you get to design from scratch, rather than having to slowly fix like a 1960s remodel of the city that included building a 10 lane highway right through the middle. but i get that not everyone wants "Victoria, but a city builder". having to deal with the consequences of the philosophies of previous planners (and their evil overlords) is an integral part of being an urban planner to my mind.

CS1 has scenarios where you're dropped into an already existing city but AFAIK nobody ever plays though. they could be fun for CS2 since the actual city sim aspect of the game is going to exist for the first time.

FPS where you create a loadout with your loot and spawn into a 20-minute raid with other players competing for more loot against AI opponents. If you can extract without being killed by other players or AI, then you keep the loot for another raid. If something kills you or time runs out before you can get to an exit, you lose your loot.

You tend to die in a small number of hits, depending on armor/headshots and how much healing gear you've got.

lol this completely misses the essence of what extraction shooters are.

an extraction shooter is just the latest iteration of the exact same dogshit fad chasing that resulted in five million dead battle royale games. they've got a different name and a slightly different coat of paint but they're trying to break into the same market and are equally uninspired attempts at creating some new always online gaas trash that publishers hope will become the next fortnite. they just haven't accepted that the gaas battle royale genre is already at capacity yet like they did with mmos and mobas, but I'm sure that as soon as the next actually original and popular game comes out nobody will ever make an extraction shooter again

letting players go anywhere on the map and capture whatever objectives they want sounds cool until you realize that there's a substantial proportion of the player base who would prefer to sit around capping empty points all day so that the "you win" text pops up at the end of a round and sometimes 100 of them wind up in the same server
