In terms of coaches especially, how much do you think some of them just don’t give a poo poo if their job is on the line versus being stubborn on sticking to what they want to do?

Sullivan especially could be stubborn on “gently caress it, I coach how I coach, we won cups doing it, I have a contract” and also he has to know he would get re hired pretty quickly if the Pens ever fired him. So ego wise why bothering changing on the possibility of getting fired ?

20-24 right? so I wouldn’t be surprised if there are goalies capable of doing really well and it’s just scouting/tradition/etc that’s keeping guys out.

Positioning isn’t 100% athletic skill though, so goaltender is probably a bit unique.

Plus you put a goalie out at the NHL level, he has whatever dip, it’s a lot more mental pressure to work through.

Carter Hart I think is a great example. Dude was def skilled enough to play at the NHL level at age 22ish. 2nd season he has a major slump (big contribution to beyond horrific defense) and it took the whole off season for him to get past it (in general).

Nope. The coyotes ownership (who owns a bunch of casinos) reportedly wasn’t worried about the coyotes playing in a 5,000 person arena because they would make it up with gambling profits which the players don’t make a cut of.

To make it worse, they were ok with the arena hurting "profits" because it would only reduce profits that the players shared with, so literally the players took a bigger hit with the coyotes than the owners did.

It’s hosed up.

Yeah, I don’t think the term is multiple generational talents more than having All Star level at the main positions :

1 center
1 center or winger
1 defenseman (ideally 2)
Goalie (yes goalie is a bit more nebulous now)

All those teams have someone who qualified at the time of winning. Blues had RoR, Tarasenko, Petro and a super hot streak Binnington. Penguins had Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Fluery / Murray.

Vegas was so good because you have Petro or Theodore on the ice basically the whole game, plus Eichel, Stone, etc, and a goalie going into god mode.

Balance wins cups, as does random goalies deciding to randomly be the best goalie in the universe.

“The Professional Women’s Hockey League will have teams in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Boston, Minnesota and New York, and will begin signing players this week ahead of a 15-round draft on Sept. 18.”

“This is the only season where teams will only play 24 games. In subsequent years, there will be 32 regular season games and will run between November to May, followed by playoffs, Kasten said. There will also be international breaks in the season during the IIHF women’s world championships and Olympics.”

“Six players on each team will be signed to three-year contracts of no less than $80,000 per league year. In 2023-24, up to five players on each team will be signed to two-year contracts. According to the CBA, the minimum salary for players on standard player contracts in 2023-24 shall be $35,000. No more than nine players per team can be paid the minimum.”

“Kasten said the NHL has helped the league identify markets and talk to NHL teams about venues. He said that they have talked about the “future, doing business together,” but mostly the NHL has provided advice and assistance for “anything that we have asked.”
