Jon jones heavyweight title fights of the least resistance

How incredibly coincidental that the day news breaks that Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury might actually be happening is the day the UFC finally announces Jones/Stipe just hours later. How absolutely random and circumstantial.

We've certainly seen much worse than 2 lbs over, I'm not too worried since this is just the fighter being way too tall for the division, rather than way too thick, trust in Blonde Hooker.

I am at this point pretty convinced both guys are retiring after that fight. Jones has been talking about beating Stipe and retiring since before he even won the belt and Stipe hasn't fought in two and a half years, will be 41 by the time this fight theoretically happens and has been sick of the UFC's poo poo for about half a decade.

I'm guessing by the turn of the year we've got Pavlovich vs either Gane or Aspinall for the vacant belt.

He signed an 8 fight deal iirc before the Gane fight, it wouldn't surprise me if he wanted the record for HW defenses first.

Oh, I remember, but when he relinquished the light-heavyweight belt last time his contract nearing its end/his wanting to renegotiate for heavyweight was a sticking point that took months to resolve, so when they announced an eight-fight heavyweight deal I got the feeling that was more about locking him into a much longer, much more annoying to fight contract if/when he decides he's done again.

At this point in his life and career I cannot imagine Jon Jones sticking around for eight fights. It'd be neat to be wrong, he's Jon Jones and he's still a hell of a fighter to watch, but it just doesn't feel likely to me.

I always figured that when a fighter signs a long contract with the UFC really late in their career it's just a way of promising they'll end their career in the UFC and not try to jump ship to Bellator or wherever

I know it's a mistake to do this, but I was curious what Dana was saying in the post fight presser, and he apparently didn't think there was a racial thing with Izzy / Dricus. Interesting way to play it.

This whole title fight has the potential to get gross in a way UFC's masters can't brush off or ignore. Maybe it's about time some poo poo like that happened.

imo yeah, if just to see how volk overcomes all the physical disadvantages in the match-up. it was a really strong performance against a really scary fighter who looked at least a weight class bigger. volk is obviously an insane athlete and has elite skills but his decision-making is probably the best out of any fighter i've ever seen, both in terms of the bigger picture gameplan but also in terms of minute decisions in the fight. in the finish where he crushes yair with the right hook he's got his left down by his body absorbing the body kick. unbelievable.

the lead-up to the fight with DDP will be unbearable but the fight itself will be hilarious whatever happens.

I could have misinterpreted it but it sounds like he just had no idea what was said in that situation, and when he asked for more details all the reporter got to relay was "Izzy said the n word a bunch" and not anything about the genetics poo poo or essentially the colonization references and poo poo. That being said I suspect that if he had the full information his reaction would not be any different so in conclusion
