Right now Twitter is in a free fall collapse because they lost their hosting contract with Google due to not paying it (they dont have the 1 billion dollars necessary), and all of their big advertisers have jumped ship. There is a new CEO, but they are unable to work on getting new advertisers onboard because of a clause in their contract from their previous employer. So its not happening as fast as people thought it would, but Twitter is imploding in real time and its been fun to watch.

Don't forget that the decision to not show tweets without logging in has resulted in Twitter sending a shitload of requests to itself, self-DDoSing the site
