The main reason to watch summer league is to see your team's draft picks play NBA players for the first time. If a prospect plays really well at summer league, that means they can at least hang as a fringe NBA guy. If they look physically and athletically outmatched at summer league, that's usually a bad sign. Summer league is the home of journeymen combo guards trying to chuck their way into NBA deals, power forwards trying to dunk their way to deals, and lockback seizing special memorabilia that less discerning men would overlook, or even discard.
