Hey!

What's the coolest thing about your country? I'd say that here in Spain are the Canary islands with the volcano in Tenerife and their climate. Also Extremadura is pretty cool if you like green spaces with lots of ponds.

The best thing about America is the rampant diversity of... everything.

There are so many different types of people, geographies, food, and activities that it's really mind-blowing when you travel within the US. There are glaciers in Alaska, a tropical paradise in Hawaii, deserts in the southwest, swamps in the southeast, picturesque mountains in the middle of country, theme parks all over, casinos in a few places, every type of outdoor activity you can imagine, several sprawling modern metropolises, tons of quaint small towns, and cultural enclaves representing almost every nation on earth.

Is it true that you can buy a gun in America like a hotdog? Like I walk into the gun store, choose a gun and leave with it just like that? Are you allowed to carry them in any part of the country? "

lol even our laws are all over the place, so it varies from state to state and sometimes city to city.

Where I live, I can drive 30 minutes into Washington DC and buy weed and psychedelics legally over the counter, and in Virginia I can buy an gun almost as easily. Although it's illegal to carry psychedelics around Virginia, or carry a gun around DC, so you always want to read up on the laws of each state that you travel through. In some places you can just straight up walk around in public with an assault rifle and/or smoking weed, while in some places it's almost impossible to get a gun or a dime bag.

Even things like food and alcohol sales are regulated differently in different states and cities.

Are there laws that affect the whole country? Or is it dictated by each state? I always wanted to go to Vegas!

ignoring larger countries, my country is the biggest one in the world. we have everything from inventions to amenities. our flag is made with soldier blood and each point on the stars represents another country we will make into a state one day. the first cities in history have been written about from my homeland. when it comes to trade, we import as well as export. In our native language our country's name means "land of the earth people with real freedom." Our national food is McDouble. Our common pastimes including endangering species to build malls and standardized test prompts, as well as sitting around. We have over 100 laws and to learn em all you have to take a test at a bar. Every year people gather for events and celebrations at different locations using their traditions. Dogs and cats are legal here.

I saw this documentary called Barry which enlightened me on how it works. Here, this is that scene:

America Inc.

I plan to live forever, of course, but barring that I'd settle for a couple thousand years. Even 500 would be pretty nice.

This is more pronounced on the east coast because you've got so many small states and they're a mix of red and blue right next to each other.

On the west coast states are huge and all of the conservatives have been flocking to Idaho or Texas. The more rural areas in California or PNW are conservative but they have no power.

It can be helpful to think of the United States as sort of like the European Union, and the states are like member countries. That's not a perfect analogy, but in some ways it's closer to reality than thinking of it as like England, or even the United Kingdom.

Like, are there places where people yodel and play music that's hundreds of years old? Is one of the world's largest stock markets there? Can you ski? Are there beaches? Are there places where you could probably find someone to sell you a dead body? Are wages really low in this place, and really high in that place, despite using the same currency? Yeah, us too.

I think the coolest thing about my country is that among the global superpowers we have an excellent human rights record, progressive social practices, and an unparalleled level of cultural diversity. A lot of people here feel passionately that we could be doing a lot of things better, and they don't go to jail for expressing that view: rather, there are usually ways they can work on driving change. This makes us, as a country, constantly push to improve.

The country where I was born and live most of the time was named, apocryphally, "here is nothing" by the Spanish.
They weren't entirely wrong.

My country is the tiniest thing, but strangely seems to have both mountains with snow and complete desert areas and everything in between, and that's the continental portion not counting the islands. It's a wild mix. And the beaches are all different depending on what they are touching.

It has one of the oldest historical architecture records of anywhere in Europe that isn't called UK, France, or Greece what with having been a country for a whole thousand years. Everything from paleolithic stuff, Celtic stuff and Roman stuff, and everything that came after them.

Earlier this year I visited a remote portion to the northeast with a bunch of rather ancient villages. I was literally tripping on stuff:

Weird rock formations full of trilobite fossils.

Roman-era bridges

And ancient castles from the middle ages where a certain HBO series with dragons was filmed at one point.

I should probably make a thread at some point with all the pics of the cute little villages and other interesting stuff from that trip.

Speaking of islands, the archipelago of Azores that I have yet to visit but plan to soon, is all weird small bits in the middle of the Atlantic. Scientists say they are the top of remains of what used to be a much larger island before the end of the ice age, so a bunch of pseudo-archeologists claim it's the lost continent of Atlantis. It's a funny thought.

That's funny because I asked it to try to make it make sense for Canada and they flat out said there's no way to do it and the word nada has nothing to do with Canada. Lol
