I'm choosing to believe that every time Thane takes an assassination request, they are killed on that mission and the target takes up their mantle. There is no real Thane. Hasn't been for a long time. No one knows, but their targets keep disappearing so the Duats figures it's working out.

I think Lock is trying to prove a point here, either toward Bach or about him...?

Thing are a bit inconsistent though. “Trying to pull bullshit on people” seems like kind of the point of this venue - that people propose weird gambles and their opponent has to try to figure out what the trick is. But Ossa also warns Lock not to pull any scams/swindles and this gamble definitely seems like more of a swindle than a game.

It was a swindle UNTIL Bach explicitly agreed to the rules, as they were stated. There was no rules stating that there was X number of cards, no rule... etc.

And Lock gave Bach an opportunity to ask questions to clarify the rules a bit more. That's not on Lock if Bach failed to do so.

It's all bullshit of course. But anyone in that underworld casino should have known better. Lock was throwing up massive red flags, and Bach got manipulated into it anyway.

Maaaan Laverna's twin really is unlikable compared to herself.

I'd imagine Odin, as the person who suggested the game, knows the various tricks and loopholes.

Aw, Eris cares! Her in-person persona is nice to see. Laverna and Eris suit each other.

With his mixed loyalties, Seth is in an right spot. Assuming Arrianne isn't corrupt, then Seth is safest if nothing big happens. Aija assassinating Laverna, or Laverna uncovering the truth are both bad for him. It makes sense for him to ask Eris to convince Laverna to lie low.

Laverna also did just poke her head into a Duat den, investigating the fake murder. I think that's part of what Seth meant by "surrounded on more sides than she thinks"

Another thing to consider is that Thane's identity might actually be known. Their outfit doesn't have to be concealing their identity, it's just a menacing symbol that happens to work out for the imposter. And if it is, I would imagine Yi would have known who Thane is. And so that gives us a bit of timeline for when our fake Thane shows up.

It's been a week? Yi mentions the meal he had last week, when they're waiting at Milo's restaurant. So the real Thane dies some time in between that time range.

That's also probably partly why Laverna doesn't push too hard, she's already suspicious of Seth and there's nothing she can do here right now.

I'm kind of suspicious of Baldera; maybe she'll be some catalyst to uncovering the corruption in the police, but I can't help but think she's a little too squeaky clean for this story.

Yes, yes, ACAB, but part of that statement is that not all cop are monsters, some people, if you removed them being officers, would probably be otherwise okay people. But a good chunk of the cop ARE monsters, and the rest enable and protect them and the rotten system they enforce.

We now know for a fact that Seth and Arrianne are dirty. It would be kind of lazy if literally all three cops with a face were all dirty.

I think it's pretty safe to say Devon is his own thing entirely, unrelated to anyone else. He has too much going on to be any of our other viewpoints.

The title of the update being Mercury End implies that's the last Mercury story, but the Mercury card is still there at the end, do cards not disappear when you're done with them?
