I find it really interesting that, for all of his importance to the Duats and to the city, Marduk apparently doesn’t have dedicated sprites and is instead background art.

Well, we know two Olympo people who were at the casino at some point, Polly and Chara. I think the fact that one of the Olympo family died would be a much bigger deal, so I think Chara was murdered. If it was her, then it probably has something to do with the laptop she stole, so probably not the Duats?

Actually, I think Lock is our phone-caller. And I do agree that the phone caller is the killer, or an accomplice, but helping commit a murder then calling the police about it seems like the kind of gamble Lock would take.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the winner can make rule changes, with honestly vague limits to the changes. For example, they could make it so “The Ruler at the end of the last round wins”, thus completely changing the nature of the game, or “chips can be placed on multiple cards per round” or “chips are regained at the the end of a round”. I think the key is going to be instituting a key rule in the game that forces a win, especially since the rule goes into effect at the end of the next round, which could theoretically be at the end of the final round, before the game actually ends.

Have we heard the name Naomi before? I feel like it has come up before, but can’t remember where.

You know, the main mystery that I’m focused on is Who is Ez? I really doubt that she is just a framing device for the story, and I am fairly certain she is one of the characters, possibly one of the POV characters. However, I don’t think she is going to turn out to be the mastermind/god/main villain, as they already did that twist in Zodiac Trial. I’m also wondering the why of the framing device, and who is the “Us” she is telling the story to.

I’m calling it that he has no secrets that Lock doesn’t know about. From a meta perspective, it would make no sense that Basch has some other deep dark secret, because that part of the story isn’t about Basch, it’s about Lock. Also, there is no such thing as free chips, and Ez feels like she is pulling the same con that Lock pulled on Basch.

You know, with Devon’s last act, basically every single institution in Panthea is out of commission. Olympo is dissolving, the Duats are fracturing with Marduk dead and Yi in disgrace, the government will be without a leader for the foreseeable future as Aija is knocked out, the police is probably scrambling with the loss of the money and the public revelation that they are riddled with Duat spies, and Aija’s opposition is currently hiding in a bathroom waiting to get arrested. The only power currently in play is the media.

What happens if you say you don’t think the story had a happy ending? Because I don’t think that was a happy ending.

Also, compared to the last game, the climax was very anti-climactic. As I was reading, I never really thought Mercury was going to lose. With how smart and lucky they were portrayed to be, it was obvious they were going to have multiple plans in motion to win. By the time it came down to the fight at the end, it was honestly boring to read, almost perfunctory. For as much of the story was focused on luck and betting, it felt like there were no stakes.
