I voraciously read Dahl as an elementary / middle schooler and both existing movies did things I did and didn't like. This? I'm curious, but I'm going to wait until Netflix or whatever for sure. I think that Gene would have a laugh and a shrug after seeing this; he didn't seem like a serious enough dude to generate afterlife momentum for something like this.

People get really weird about Gene Wilder. Like yeah he was very funny and his life was tragic, but people talk about him like "There's Jesus Christ, the prophet Muhammad, Buddha, and Gene Wilder." He's not Randolph Scott.
