Is this like Ramza Kit from OT1, where you encounter this regardless of who you start with?

Yes, you will always meet Al outside the starting town regardless of which character you start as after you finish their first chapter.

Partitio won. Now I just have to remember how to get to the west continent.

I'll do an update showing off Flamechurch hopefully later today, then the next update will probably start Partitio's Chapter 1 if I don't find something else to put there.

I took the octopath less travelered,

And it made one-eighth the difference.
Also I found a couple errors I made about Temenos's skills in the last update.

* I was wrong about boosting Sacred Shield and was just assuming it added more shields with BP. It adds only one shield regardless of BP spent, and instead BP increases the amount of damage it blocks. So it starts at blocking 50% of damage, then BP increases it to 65/80/100%. Personally I'd probably prefer what I originally thought, though SS can still be useful as a panic option if you're expecting a huge attack.

* The Support Skill Resilience is mistranslated, which is unfortunately common with some of these skill descriptions. Instead of increasing the amount of HP healed to the equipped character, it increases the amount of HP healed by the character. This is understandably much more useful with specific characters, namely Temenos and Castti, and bumps it up to maybe be worth using even among more powerful support skills, depending on how big the increase is. I'll have to dig around to see if I can find a good source on the increase, otherwise I may have to experiment myself once I unlock it.

I'll fix those in the update proper in a bit.

ApplesandOranges

I believe Resilience also works with items, so anybody can make use of it while giving out healing items.

This makes the value rather easy to extract, I think it's a 30% increase.

Flamechurch, Sacred Light

This is Flamechurch, one of the foundational religious centers of Solistia.

We'll check out the town during the day at first.

I won't show all of the Guide info, since a lot of it is rather generic, but I will show some of the more interesting ones.

It's a bit odd just showing these without Scrutinize text to help out explaining these people, as it'd make more sense just who they are from that context. Things will clear up a bit once we hit night though.

They shed plenty of light, but more importantly, they seem to ward away monsters. Unfortunately, I don't have any to hand right now. Try a cleric, perhaps?

This is a clue towards a side story here that will clear up the path to the cathedral. You can even see the NPC that starts it up on that hill. Unfortunately, we're not able to complete it yet, so we have to hold off for now.

This man has a lot of opinions on things.

The tavern is where you can choose your party, gear up those not in your party, restore reputation if you annoy the townspeople too much, or start story content for characters. None of which we can really do yet, of course.

You are responsible for the lives of both mother and child.

Some NPCs we can't Guide, mostly notable with NPCs you need to knock out to enter places.

Right now anything that isn't Light or Staff-based is handy for exposing weaknesses. This is a single-target fire spell, which would be handy to us.

Same with this woman's ice magic.

You know, as long as you remember your drat lines.

This NPC has "Mental Augmentation" as a skill, which I can't find any reliable sources on but I assume buffs Elemental Attack. The spreadsheed I'm reading for a lot of this info says this is the only non-Crick NPC Temenos can Guide during his Chapter 1, but that involves grinding all the way to L10 in the path to the Cathedral, which is very major overkill. Still a neat detail!

Everyone loves that Cathedral. We'll revisit it ourselves in a bit once we finish with the actual town.

This Cleric has the skill "Striking Sermon", where they strike with a staff and have a chance to inflict Sleep.

Flamechurch, Sacred Light (Night)

That's it for Day, so let's switch to Night. It's hard to tell it's night in here, but you can at least see the NPCs are different.

This is the guy with the 8-star dagger skill.

Coercsion goes poorly. Fortunately, there's no penalty for failing, as counterintuitive as that may sound.

The problem with all the various Clerics here is they have no weaknesses to either staves nor light magic. This one is also problematic in that she has five shields, so even one max-boost blast of Temenos's Latent wouldn't work. I could try to slowly build up Latent Energy, but it's such a slow process I'll just revisit this Cleric later.

One interesting thing is that, unlike most NPCs, Mindt makes actual sounds when you battle her, which is odd since she cannot be Guided and thus cannot actually participate in battles. It may just be because she's a story NPC though, who knows.

This guy has the same dialogue, but we can actually break him, so...

Finally, some dark secrets we can extract from people. This is where we get to the juicy stuff.

Not this family, though. It's a couple of apothecaries and their son, and they live pretty normal lives. But you need those pleasantly normal people to balance out the other stuff.

Also, some NPCs have hidden items or other stuff to offer. We get an ingredient that Castti will appreciate once we recruit her.

Nothing but normal. It's nice to have the occasional well-adjusted family though.

The item is a Fumbling Flower, another apothecarial ingredient.

There's some decent upgrades here, but not much reason to buy these during the various Chapter 1 stories since you'll likely find better elsewhere. I might grab a Protective Earring before I leave the town, though, as it buffs both defenses, which Temenos would appreciate.

Some of these folk are just mostly-good people that otherwise get weighed down by their various vices. But hey, at least he can get us a discount at the inn, so that instead of spending 16 leaves, we only spend 8!

That said the inn fully recharges your latent powers, so I sleep a few times to mentally break those various clerics who are not persuaded by swift strikes to the shins.

Mindt is naturally very boring with no exciting dark secrets to note of.

Oh hey, a status effect!

There's the usual status effects, with the only unique one being Terror, which blocks both spending and gaining BP. There are various herbs that can heal these status effects, and they are very cheap too. Good to have a handful of each just in case.

Anyway it turns out this man who doesn't trust anyone takes advice from the cosmos. Fair enough.

Here we go, now we're getting to the good stuff: Marriage drama.

A former artisan who lost the will to work, and his wife that quietly resents being viewed as ordinary.

This is a pretty nice get, though.

Unforgivable.

The church shall confinscate this.

Some items are simply vendor fodder. They say "you'll make money for selling this" and that's all they're good for.

She does seem like a very experienced midwife.

Oh hey it's me with my creative endeavors.

Oh hey it's me with my drinking habits.

Hilariously this leads us to an Herb of Clamor.

That said I'm ready to call the MVP of Flamechurch, and it is clearly the Piano-Playing Cleric. All she wants to do is play the piano, and may Aelfric bless her for it.

Flamechurch, Sacred Light

I take the artist who won't art to escort Temenos to the cathedral.

Any guided NPCs will follow along beside you. There's even an achievement for having four NPCs following you around, the appropriately named "Octopath Traveler...?"

I forgot to show this off, but here is Summon.

NPCs may do several things in combat, like a physical attack, and of course their signature ability.

NPCs will stick around for a few rounds before retreating, and can even take hits for the person guiding them. There's only a set number of times you can summon an NPC before they go back to where they were, and you have to recruit them again.

Anyway, it's time to visit the Cathedral.

This man finds prayer so important his Guide ability is literally "Pray".

This cleric's skill is "Sacred Teachings", which buffs your weapons with a light-elemental attack. This is very useful and something we can't really do on our own until post-game, so of course this requires a hefty L30 to access.

This wonderful fellow has Umbral Strike, a single-target Dark magic move. Dark magic in particular is one of the more annoying ones to use, so I may go with guiding him before I set out.

This fellow has "Deep Analysis", which can reveal enemy weaknesses. Might be another Guide option worth looking into...

Luckily, the cathedral is back up and running despite the recent unfortunate circumstances.

Also this Sanctum Knight has a powerful wind spell, but also requires L20 to Guide.

The cathedral is certainly more welcoming during the day.

I hope not.

Ill Intent debuffs a target's elemental attack.

Uhhh, yeah, I'll be sure to do just that...

Yeah, nothing else too interesting here, so let's switch back to Night and finish things off.

Flamechurch, Sacred Light (Night)

Night shifts suck.

Also I didn't feel like trekking back and forth between the cathedral and the town to use the inn so sorry, no more Cleric info for now. Well, it'd be a one-way trek since I can always fast travel back to Flamechurch, but you can't fast travel to the Cathedral.

That's what Pontiff Jörg would have wanted, too.

no thanks

Yeah, most of these jerks aren't really amicable to coercion (besides the Historian, which we already did in a previous update).

We did this guy already, but now we've got a new perk.

Once we get Throné in the party, she'll get a large buff to her chances to steal stuff and thus can rob this religious town blind.

But for now, we're done here. Next time...

...we'll be heading west as we sail to the western continent and meet the merchant Partitio!

I was gonna just lump this stuff in with Partitio's Chapter 1, but enough happens that it's a bit too big to properly fit in there, so enjoy this mini update as we travel to Oresrush.

First, we change one guy I'll never use for another guy I'll never use.

Then I buy a Protective Earring since it's cheap and Temenos likes defense.

We've got a bit of a journey ahead of us. There's a couple ways to get to the western continent, but we'll be going south, into the Brightlands.

The Brightlands

This is where the more well-off cities of New Delsta and Clockbank are. We'll visit those in due time of course, but for now we have other matters.

Lots of rivers, bridges, and random containers strewn about around here.

Each region has its own beast race, and for the Brightlands it's the City Ratkin.

None of these foes have any interesting attacks, so I'll mostly just show off new enemy types and then move on.

Fruit Baskets spread the effect to the entire party, though they're not very strong. For Plums, this means party-wide SP recovery, which can be very handy even if it's not much.

A Night Raven at Day.

The path to Clockbank has a lot of powerful foes, so it'll be awhile until we can go there. New Delsta is along the way, might as well stop by there so I can fast travel to it later.

Don't worry, we will come back to that house in the top-right in due time. I want to prepare a bit first.

A free sword upgrade isn't bad, even if we can't use it yet.

The Brightlands (Night)

I'm not gonna show it quite yet, but I do briefly go to New Delsta for future convenience. It was on the way so why not?

Also it became night when we reached New Delsta. I could just switch back to day, but eh, why not stick to night? Plus it's an excuse to share the night theme here.

Here's our journey so far. We're gonna go north and then west at the branch, as there's a port at the end of that road.

I pick up Luminiscence because target-all attacks are invaluable, and this lets Temenos learn Resilience. This is a mistranslation, it buffs the amount Temenos heals, so it'll definitely come in handy later on.

Luminecence in action. It's beautiful.

Getting close!

There's that ocean breeze.

A consumable that can inflict Poison. Poison's decent on random foes, but gets nerfed against bosses. Usually there's better use of a turn than trying to inflict Poison anyway.

These lovely creatures are back as well.

We can sail directly west to Crackridge Harbor, which will bring us to the Wildlands, or we can spend 1500 to go to Toto'haha and then sail from there to Canalbrine in The Harborlands. Since we're heading to the Wildlands, the choice is simple enough.

Pretty much a straight shot to the west.

The Wildlands

This one is my personal favorite of the region themes.

Personally, I think that rumor has the ring of truth to it. Heh heh heh...

This place is pretty barren at day, so let's briefly switch to night.

The Wildlands (Night)

Of course, most of these folk hit a bit too hard to really coerce.

This place is busier at night, as many people desire to flee and live new lives on the other side of the sea. Of course, some are at least going to be happy endings.

oh nevermind

Of course, some people are just jerks.

And some are just way in over their heads.

And some things are probably just better off left alone.

It probably goes without saying, but you can't beat up children in this game. Well, most children.

Anyway, there's a small easter egg if we visit later after doing another character's Chapter 1, so we'll be back eventually. For now, let's resume our journey.

This will be convenient for when we get a dagger user.

That said, while we're in the right region, we still have to make a bit of a march to reach Oresrush.

The Leaflands

Naturally, the Leaflands is a forested region. The nearest town here is Cropdale, but it's a bit out of our way so we'll visit there later.

This is the first enemy I've encountered without a weakness to staves nor light magic. I flee instead.

This is a new food item to join Grapes, Plums, and Pomegranates. While those heal HP/SP/BP respectively, Lychees fill up your Latent Power.

This region is really nice to wander through, if nothing else.

We're finally getting close to Oresrush. Just a little longer...!

Finally.

Oresrush, Pioneer Town

Next time, we'll recruit our next party member and learn his story.

I wanna get a Super Saiyan Mohawk when I grow up! :swoon:
I'm stupid so I haven't quite grokked how "Guide" works, as far as I can tell it goes something like this:
1. Talk to an NPC and, if your level meets the prerequisite, they tell you where they would like to go and follow along behind your party.
2. While the NPC is in the party, you can Summon them into random battles to use their special abilities (if they have one) and regular attacks.
3. Once they have arrived at their destination, they leave the party and that's it.
Is that correct?

You can choose to Guide anyone that can be guided, as long as you're of the appropriate level.
They will remain in your party until they run out of attacks from being summoned in battle or you guide someone else.
If they're required for a quest or some other objective, you can also bring them for that purpose (and then they leave) but otherwise there's nothing stopping you from keeping them in your party (as long as they don't run out of summonings) or even going back and re-Guiding them again (if they can be Guided).

Huh - quite the open world. A level-based JRPG is something I would expect to run into more hiccups attempting that, but this seems pretty laidback about it so far. I'm guessing either the early chapters all have lower level ranges or the world will get more dangerous as the story progresses.

The ship looked pretty expensive though - probably a one time thing with the fast travel, right?

ApplesandOranges

Without giving away much, yes, the areas around the starting towns are all low level, and travelling to places designated for later on in characters' quests have higher danger level. The world is structured that travelling between starting towns never puts you in much danger if you want to go between the two extreme ends of starting towns.

Oresrush, Pioneer Town

Alright, enough drawing things out. It's time to actually form our octopath, starting with Partitio.

Whoa now, you've got a special look about you.

Lady Luck must be shinin' down on me, 'cause it ain't every day you meet someone like you!

Y'see, I've got big plans and big ideas--too big to handle alone. I was hopin' I'd find a dependable sort like you to accompany me on my travels.

Funnily enough, Partitio's the only one whose dialogue changes depending on who the main character is, and even then it's just calling out that person's job.

Naturally, we accept.

Partitio is a Merchant, and is a very interesting spin in that he wants to use the powers of capitalism to enrich the world.

Unlike OT1, where you'd see the first half of a Chapter 1 in a flashback and then do the rest with your main party, all of OT2's Chapter 1's are stand-alone. This lets the devs get more creative with the opening chapters, plus it avoids situations like a loner thief being cool with inviting total strangers to a heist.

And of course, I'll be showing all of them.

Oresrush, Dried Up

That's exactly why I'm askin', little chickadee. It's a blank slate--it can be whatever we make of it. Long as we got the skill and gumption, anyhow.

I know, son. Swipe that line if ya want.
Naw, I wouldn't do that. Thievin' ain't right.

That's my boy, fine words! You do me proud!
Oo, oooh! I had an idea! If it was up to me...

That way we could all settle it together!

Yeah! Smart, huh?

Even at a young age, Partitio was an idealist and had the morals of a great merchant. He just lacks the experience.

This land is an asset. We bought the deed to it fair and square from its former owner. If we want to divvy it up, Partitio, we can't just give it away for free.
Aw, c'mon now, Mister Roque. No need to be stingy.

Roque 'n' I pooled our money and bought the rights to these lands.
...That we did.
Heh, rumor was you couldn't take a step without trippin' over silver ore.
Oooh...!

Then take these leaves and go buy us some silver.
G-gosh, I don't know if I'm ready for that...

Yessir, Mister Roque! I'll go buy some silver then, lickety-split!

Thus an eight-year-old Partitio begins a lucrative career as a merchant.

We're at the very beginning of what we can see has become a booming silver town. But all grand things start small.

Heh heh heh... Time to show off my...whatchacallit...? My business acumen!

And so we get to Partitio's Day Path Action, Purchase. This lets him buy items from NPCs. You can get a lot of rare and exclusive items and equipment this way, but be prepared to pay well for the good stuff!

...No, that's way too stiff.

That said, most of these people have nothing of note to buy. A few minor consumables, random knick knacks that aren't worth as much as they cost, so on. We need to have a more discerning eye.

Sadly, nothing or note so far. But...

A true merchant has an eye for value, and can see the worth in things others may not truly appreciate.

How 'bout sellin' it to me? I can pay fair and square!
Gah, ease off! I'll trade you, just don't tell anyone about this. Deal?
Deal! Thankee kindly!

We found what we were after, it seems. Let's check back in with Papp and Roque.

Video: A Silver Town

Sure did! Here! This is it, right?
Give it here.

Whoa now... This is some fine quality ore! You didn't even use all the leaves I gave you, neither!
Your boy has a fine eye, Papp. He must've inherited his business acumen from you.
Heh, thanks!
I bet we can earn a bundle off this. Good work, son!

We sold off all but a roof over our head to start this business. It's a gamble, that's for sure.
But one well worth it, Papp.

We're entering the Age of Silver. Mark my words.
We're well-positioned to earn a fortune.

Woo-hoo! I can't wait to get started, Pops!

And so we fast forward a bit...

Construction comes rapidly as the town comes to formation.

Soon the town is thriving, and even Papp and Partitio have their own home overlooking the town.

Oresrush, Pioneer Town

Today's haul, freshly plucked from the soil! One hundred percent pure, high-quality ore!

...but what real guarantee can a youngling like you offer me on its value?
Heh. Looks can be deceivin', my fine friend. I've been doin' this for eight years now, and I know my stuff.

Take a look at the sheen on this rock. See the luster? That sparkle? Why, this is the finest you'll find in the land. It's even used in ol' King Dudley's crown!
Impressive...

Four hundred thousand leaves!
Eight hundred thousand!
One million six hundred thousand!

We've got one-point-eight! Any other bidders? Anyone?

I hear these merchants built this silver operation themselves. In just eight years, they turned this town into one of the continent's most plentiful sources of silver.
That youngling's got potential. He possesses a discerning eye...

He's only sixteen, too. Soon he'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Partitio has been trained well.

-----

Time to head on home and give Pops the good news.

Before we come home with today's hard work, let's explore what the town has grown into.

For a cool 400 leaves I get a nice bow upgrade for Partitio.

The town is prospering, and everyone is doing well.

Of course, a lot of it comes down to the hard work everyone put into creating this town, including Papp and Partitio.

But out here, hard work pays off. Time to retire for the evening.

Carefree Days

That's my boy! Good work.

We're only gonna keep on growin', Pops!
You bet. This town's gonna be somethin'. Just gotta keep on diggin' up more silver and makin' a killin'!

You betcha, Pops! We'll do it together!

...They're back, huh?

Protectin' our mine's vital, but keep the violencee to a minimum. Y'hear me?

I'm gonna go rouse the town, gather a posse. Whoever's willin' to come.

...Dang boy, he's already gone.

Partitio may be a mercantile prodigy, but he's still a hotheaded teenager rarin' for a fight.

Oresrush, Pioneer Town (Night)

I'll need to hire someone tough as nails if I wanna win this quarrel.

This leads us to Partitio's night action, Hire. This lets him pay a NPC money to recruit them. Otherwise, Partitio's partners act identically to Temenos's partners in battle.

There's a few men we can choose from, but honestly we don't really need any of them.

Partitio's talent has each person he can hire provide a bonus upon transactions. You can get discounts (both in shops and from other NPCs), get free inn stays (worthless since inns are so cheap to begin with), earn more money when selling items in shops, and also get buffs/discounts in battle involving Partitio's money-based skills. They're all rather small effects (though they can be pretty nice later on), but still handy to have.

Righty then, time to head to the mine!

It's just a quick jaunt to the mine, but hey, might as well check out how Partitio functions in battle!

Normal Battle I

Partitio is able to use two weapon types, polearms and bows. And like all jobs, he starts with two starting skills.

Arrow of Fortune - Powerful single-target bow attack. In addition to damage, also gives bonus JP. Seems reasonably strong, and the JP is a small bonus if anything. I believe the JP goes only to the person using the ability.

Here's a new enemy type, which is also an excuse to show off Partitio's other move.

Rest - Restores HP and SP to self, plus cure status ailments. Very handy for long fights, though while the HP recovery scales, the SP is always a static 25SP (+25 per BP spent). The self-target is annoying, but otherwise a very solid ability.

A frolicing egg, huh.

While we're at it, let's do a quick rundown of the other abilities Partitio can learn:

Collect - Collect money from a single foe. Only works once per foe, and some foes can't be Collected from. Accuracy depends on foe's HP remaining, and boosting boosts accuracy. Nice way to get extra cash, naturally, but you'll get the best bang for your buck using it on bosses.

Ember - Deal fire damage to a single foe. Not very powerful on Partitio, but a shield break option. Better on high-E.Atk characters like Osvald and Temenos.

Donate BP - Give 1-4 BP to a single ally, depending on how much BP is spent. If the Merchant can generate BP quickly (and as we'll see, Partitio is good in this role), this can really fuel your damage dealers and let them go further all-out. Situational but great.

Sidestep - Evade 1-4 physical attacks, goes up with BP spent. Only targets self. That latter part is a bit of a pain, but while Sidestep isn't as broken as it was in OT1, it's still a really solid tool to have for specific fights and can still trivialize certain encounters easily. Great tool to have.

Hired Help - Pay money to summon certain groups to assist in battle that turn. These allies can use specific attacks and also do various effects. For instance, the cheapest option, Mercenary, uses sword attacks on all foes (one hit per BP spent!) and also gives a party-wide P.Def buff for a round (or more if you spend BP), and the effects and attacks get more powerful from there. It can be expensive, but like any investment it's worth as much as you put in, and if you put in a lot, you'll be well-rewarded in battle.

Divine Skill: Bifelgan's Bounty - Unleash a non-elemental attack on a foe and receive money equivalent to the damage dealt. This isn't as powerful as other Divine Skills, and usually the money isn't really worth the effort of using this. One of the few downsides of the Merchant, sadly.

As you can see, the Merchant is all about versatility while looking after oneself. As for Support Skills...

Grows on Trees - Gain 10% more money after battle. Multiple characters with this add nothing. Small, but alright as filler.

Boost-Start - Character starts battle with 1 more BP. This is great for random encounters, letting you blow through them more easily, or allowing you to set up whatever grinding strategy you may want to do.

Hang Tough - Survive otherwise-lethal attacks at 1HP if the character is not at near death. I forget what the threshhold for this is, but regardless it may be useful if you're fighting a powerful foe above your punching weight. Of course, if you're doing that you may opt for more reliable and powerful abilities.

Full Power - Completely fills the character's latent bar at the start of battle. Mainly useful for random encounters, but on certain characters, it is fantastic and can melt encounters instantly. Temenos could shred shields with the right command, Partitio can immediately start with max BP and hit foes hard, Agnea could immediately buff the entire party... With the versatility of Latents, this is one of the best passives in the game as far as random encounters go.

The Wildlands (Night)

Well, that was fun. Let's get back to the story, shall we?

You look just as rarin' as any of us, Boss!
You bet I am! That lousy gang's really got my hackles up!

They're here to take what we worked hard to make, so no holdin' back!
Yeah! They're good-for-nothing thieves!
Let's get 'em good, Boss!

Take this. Think of it as a down payment.

You'd really give coin to a stranger you just met, Partitio?
'Course I would! Folk gotta help each other out if they wanna make it in this world.

Barterin' or bruisin', no one can beat Partitio the Wild Stallion!
Too quick by half to let go of his leaves, though...

Feh. Hand over yer coin. You're makin' a tidy profit, aren't ya?
We do honest work in our town, and we get honest pay for it.

Why not try some honest work for a change? It feels good!
Yeah! Give up being rascals and work like the rest of us!

Tempest on the Battlefield

That rat! He needs someone to cool 'im down.

Double pay for anyone who distinguishes themselves! Let's get to work!
That's our boss! Generous as always!

In a nice touch, your posse is fighting the thugs in the background, while Partitio takes on a couple of thugs himself.

He may be a merchant, but Partitio is also not a half-bad fighter.

Overall, an easy victory.

drat! Don't think you'll get away with this!
Right, right. None of that cliché hogwash, now!
Tch. Retreat! We're getting outta here!

We did it, Boss!
Yeah! What a victory! Y'all did good, fellas!

Carefree Days

I say...let's make it a big one!

Woo! That's our boss! Generous as always!

C'mon, Boss! Hurry it up!

You know, Partitio might be a bit too nice sometimes...

SILENCE

I think my ears are deceivin' me. Say that again, Roque.
......

That joke ain't funny, partner.

Right when we're about to grow it even bigger, you hightail it out of here? Why?

Fortune has favored us, and a high tide has graced our town. However... The tides are always changing, Papp.
...What about our people? The ones who followed us here?

You do recall the contract we signed when we bought this land eight years ago?

What's that?
...I'm sure you'll find out soon enough.

Video: Your Gaze is on the Horizon

...This town's gonna get even bigger. All of us're workin' hard to make it so.

Headin' home early today, huh?

...Partitio. May I have a word with you?

Soliloquy

Huh...?

Silver is being mined worldwide now, and it is the commodity's destiny to slowly devalue. I'm washing my hands of the precious metals trade and traveling to the eastern continent.

The east is rich and prosperous, a land abundant with promising wares.

It is a revolutionary device that uses energy derived from steam to provide unprecedented power.

......

You have the spirit of a true capitalist. A golden opportunity like this has your blood pumping.
Heh, thanks for the compliment.

I want your talent, your drive, your charisma... You possess a rare talent. I've traveled the world over and met few your equal.

Together we can amass a fortune that would be the envy of the world.

I admire you, more than any other merchant. But...I can't go with you.

Roque is a brilliant mind in the realm of commerce, and Partitio has the potential to be as well. The main difference between these two men is the value they place on others, particularly those who helped them achieve such wealth.

Your gaze is on the horizon, your spirit dancing at the thought of the potential business opportunities out there for you.
......

That said, Roque has a point in that Partitio will only truly achieve greatness if he were to venture into the world and learn from others. It's that loyalty to those who work with him that helps Partitio stand out among other merchants, but it may also be stopping him from reaching his true potential.

It saddens me to think of your talents withering along with this town. Goodbye, Partitio.

And soon after Roque leaves...

...the town's luster fades, just as Roque predicted.

Next time, we'll see what happened to the town, and how Partitio finds a way to save it from the fate it seemed destined to meet.

we are now two for two in NPCs whose name is a slightly obtuse pun in opening chapters: continue tracking

So cute and cuddly
One of the lines in this story really threw me. 1.8 million for a "nugget" of silver? What insane deflation happened for that to be reasonable?! How do you manage to burn so much money like that?

Jack in!! MegaMan, Execute!
Is Partitio's dad actually named Papp, or is that just what Partitio calls him?

And his friend's name is Roque? Roque? Well, we're two for two on clearly evil characters. :v:

I'm going to assume Partitio doesn't actually start the game with 1.8 million leaves despite that big sale.

Oh, is that the joke they're going for? I was immediately thinking "Rogue". Well, I've got my eyes on him all the same.

Partitio's dad is indeed called Papp.

Anyway Partitio is my favourite OT traveler, and part of that is also his VAing.

Crap.
Partitio is an interesting character because he's essentially following what's known in business school as Stakeholder Theory, where you try to benefit everyone who is affected by your business's activities: employees, suppliers, customers, the local environment, and so on. He might be the "boss", but he tends to treat his employees more like partners in whatever business enterprise he engages in and makes sure that if the business thrives, everyone gets a slice of the gains. You don't see a lot of Stakeholder Theory in fiction, so it's kinda nice.

Alright I'm already charmed by Partitio. The whole benevolent capitalism and Stakeholder Theory angle is way more interesting than I expected it to be!
