and japan being japan had to take scart and gently caress it up just enough to be annoying by switching around some of the pin assignments for no reason whatsoever and calling it jp21 see also: ntsc-j, which uses a luminance range of 0-235 vs 7-235, a white reference of 9300k vs 6500k, and slightly different color encoding vs the ntsc-m standard used everywhere else
