It's something you probably have in your house right now but it's actually now banned here in Minnesota.

These handy, common items were once found in just about every house here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes ever since they were first invented by Thomas Edison back in the late 1800s. But as of July 1st, the sale of certain types of incandescent light bulbs is now actually banned not only here in Minnesota, but across the country.

It's all part of a new policy adopted last year by the U.S. Energy Department (DOE) to try to be more energy efficient.

What say you GBS? Have they improved your life over the alternative? Will you miss them?

i've still got an incandescent bulb in one ancient lamp that refuses to light cfl or led bulbs for some reason. it also has about the thinnest A/C power cord i've ever seen, a 2 prong connector that sits loose from the wall, and the on/off switch is a knob you twist that's about a centimeter from the extremely hot bulb and i've nearly but not quite burned myself on it many times over the years

i'll fight like hell to keep this lamp, you can take it from my cold, dead by electrocution hands

oh yeah my grandma used to have a lamp like one of those, I think it had aluminum wiring or some poo poo that gave it super high amperage but was super bright in return. anyways iirc it ended up short circuiting and caught its lampshade on fire during the middle of the night so it got tossed when I was like 9

so uh watch out for that too, I guess
