I was an N64 kid so I only ever got to play a handful of PSX games at friends’ houses, and half of them were dogshit like the Game Of Life game or Simpsons Wrestling. This month I got a Retroid Pocket 3+ and I’ve been loading it up with PlayStation games to make up for lost time. I’ve been obsessively playing the Spyro games and Ridge Racer Type 4 and they’re so good, better than most of the games from my childhood I loved. It makes me wonder what games my fellow Imps think should be a priority to try. What was or is your favorite PSX game?

I loved this rpg called legend of legaia. For the combat you would enter combos like a fighting game and as you leveled up the amount you could enter at once would increase. Sometimes they would just be sequences of punches and kicks but certain ones would do special moves. You could also use enemies as elemental summons. wild arms and parasite eve are two games I don’t think have better modern remakes. mega man legends also.

I love the gameplay loop of Spyro 1. I love how jank all the enemies are, how half of them don’t really even try to hurt you. Even the bosses. The flying levels are poo poo on my shoe, I hate them. I can’t wait to meet Hunter and skateboard and fly around as a penguin general.

A couple of the games I put on the console that I’m very excited to play: -Mega Man Legends (loved 64 when I was a young kid. Didn’t do almost anything outside of kicking the can around the mall) -Mega Man Legends 2 -The Misadventures of Tron Bonne -Namco Musem 1-6 -SOTN -Final Fantasy 9 -Tomba -Klonoa -Tomba The Evil Swine Returns

Final Fantasy Tactics is probably my favorite PS1 game. It's a perfect blend of epic storytelling and addicting tactics RPG systems. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (which others have mentioned) is also a strong contender.

I also think Crash Bandicoot 2 and Crash Team Racing are great games but couldn't tell you about CB1 or 3 because I didn't own them.
