Beavis and Butthead have some great new characters too. My favorite is the giggling weirdo priest (voiced by Mike Judge) who rambles catholic lingo about synods and archbishops while Beavis goes uhhhhh.

Also Cody, a nerdy kid with clueless tryhard parents who make him have a sleepover with B&B because they want him to have friends but he loving hates them. Broccolini for my bunghole.

I think Disenchantment is actually very funny, but in a different way to Futurama. There's a lot of shows that people find funny that I struggle to find humour in, and vice versa. That's why there's a bunch of different shows, it's great :)

It's not "break your side laughing" funny usually, but the humour is regular and charming, and a lot of phrases have been stuck in my head, in a good way.

It's alright if you don't like it tho, it won't be for everyone. I'm keen to see what they do after it too, because they've said the team behind it wants to do another unrelated project, which will be neat.

So far the tone of the new Futurama has been a lot closer to original run Futurama than the Comedy Central era. This is a good thing. The jokes aren't great yet, but there is at least an attempt to make it work. I'll keep watching for now, we'll see if the quality stays in the watchable range.

yeah, well said, they're definitely closer to the original seasons

If you like the new Beavis and Butthead (and I definitely do as well) they had also made another season around 7-8 years ago that was also hilarious. My only problem with the new season is that they can't just make fun of whatever real TV content they want (ala Jersey Shore or Ween music videos), but have to get approval first to make fun of it, and I think the content suffers.

The TV segments of the Paramount+ Beavis and Butthead episodes are definitely a little weak. There are many where it doesn't make sense for Beavis and Butthead to NOT make fun of the video, yet they don't at all and go off on some tangent. Some time into the second season they seem to find their groove with the TV segments and they improve quite a bit.

The new Futurama episode was okay. Still not super funny, but they didn't even try and do anything topical with the crypto episode, they just did a wild west parody. Had a few jokes I laughed at, mostly involving Bender. The fact that they didn't try and deal with crypto in anything approaching a serious way, I'm a lot less nervous that they're going to do another Susan Boyle episode. Still wish it was funnier.

One thing about Disenchantment is that they do these big panning 3d shots that look so cool. These were in the Simpsons and Futurama too, but look at this early example from 1997. It's exactly the same shot with the rotation as it zooms out:

Some of the music videos have basically naked women in them, or at least a lot sexier than B&B would ever have seen, and they don't notice it comment on it, which is kind of weird.

I think for the videos where they should be making fun of the YouTubers but are just going on tangents, the show simply did not want to make fun of random real people

To me it's like alright

The movies are pretty mid, and the CC revival was a massive dumbing down and drop in quality, but it still felt like something meaningful in tone and style carried over, even as its attempts to keep up with the times could feel clumsy

Whereas this version really just has the art style and voices carrying over. Everything is undercooked, the jokes are unclever, and it's all just very... poo poo?

The quality definitely isn't there.

it felt like watching newer episodes of the simpsons, it wasn't very entertaining and very bland

the general plots are referencing very current or at least recent events while the original had more references to old sci-fi books, movies and tropes and a bunch of other nerd poo poo

it is ok if they want to base it on new stuff i guess but it just feels like its barking up the wrong tree.

See this was my reaction. I know it's supposed to be topical, it's always been topical. I don't mind, it actually adds an extra layer of humor to me that it's an image of the future that ends up reflecting the time its from more than anything else.

It lives into its name, which was taken from a World's Fair exhibit/ride from 1939 that predicted the world in the wild future of the late 50s/60s, and then again in 1964 for Futurama II, aka 'The New Futurama'. Just like the rides, the whole idea of the show is, the future as we imagine it - from today.

The older it gets, the more Futurama becomes exactly what it was always meant to be.

these new episodes have an awful lot of callbacks to the original run

in the first episode alone I saw:
the pinup calendar chronometer is from 'roswell that ends well'
fry's hulu login is panuccisasst@panuccis.com
slurms mackenzie
calculon never performs a second take

and from ep two but I'm gonna lump it in here:
the whale biologist who hates whales

Also everyone still takes their phone calls on their eyes because of the Eye phone and it's a horribly distracting visual gag that should die but this season seems to be about continuity and callbacks, so. We'll be seeing that a lot.

I binged all of Futurama only a few years ago, so the highs are still fresh in my mind.

Watched two new episodes, quit halfway through the 3rd one which was a western. Completely tepid, no real zinger jokes nor moments, characters just kind plodding forwards and saying their half-hearted bit. (The writing that is, the voice talent is still great.) Like, that moment where Kiff fades into the background like a chameleon experiencing a fear reaction... and then he slowly explains the joke out loud to the viewer, dear lord.

Shame, but I'm glad Segal and co are getting their payday.

I'm not a fan of any shots with 3d models rotating or sweeping camera movements because they don't gel with the intended animation style.

I'm well aware that the original used 3d sprinkled throughout. I don't have any complaints about them throwing animation layers on plates in blender, the problem is when 3d modelling is involved whether it's the ship or bender rotating in space or whatever

My Futurama rewatch has ground to a halt about 15 minutes into Bender’s Big Score. Voices were still fine, but the energy is off and definitely feels like the writing dropped a grade or two. Fun while it lasted.

Bender's Big Score had my favorite ~plot~ with the stuff involving Lars and some of the least funny gags in the entire show, it's very conflicting. The scammers just aren't funny, but the payoff was some of the best character moments in the series imo

It's also the least bad of the 4 movies

the community D&D episode was good although it was notably a bottle episode where you were actually watching them play D&D and it was revealing their character and how they felt about each other by how they played rather than a parody where everyone plays dress-up in a forest while we make puns about centaurs and serfs and other cutting edge topical commentary after so-and-so got hit on the head and is now dreaming.

I remember it got promoted by the network like it was a second one though.
