Core Keeper is p solid and the farming as it is is not particularly time consuming or difficult if that matters. The gameplay loop itself is entirely different to Stardew and is more like a top down Terraria.

Hmm, it's a bit difficult to determine exactly what to recommend since it kinda sounds like you're looking for any sort of top-down hacky-slashy Zelda-esque game? If it's based off of Stardew, does that mean the friend wants it to be very simple-sword-swipey combat? Judging from the additional Diablo 2 note, maybe the scope can be narrowed to be more loot-based ARPGs, and the Terraria to not necessarily mean top-down? I guess I'll just spitball some random games that might fit: Ember Knights? The Slormancer? Astlibra Revision? Crosscode? Unsighted? The earlier Ys games like 1+2 or Origin or Oath in Felghana? Children of Morta? Recettear (replace side-farming with side-shoptending)? Hades? Rogue Legacy 2? We've also got Hammerwatch 2 coming out this month, to keep it topical!

I am super excited for Hammerwatch 2, the demo was great and I didn't even find everything in it. Really want to see what classes other than Ranger and Mage are in at launch.

I don't know if I'm gonna play the whole series before 6 but I did wanna start at the beginning, and genuinely I'm surprised at how playable and good it is right out of the gate. Like, it's got a fair bit of clunk to it, but in a way it works really well because you do feel like you're piloting a giant clunky mech

Armored core 4 (ps3) is the first one Miyazaki worked on and the one that has the most crazy boost movement. Then V went in the other direction and made things a lot more grounded and slow and afaict is not super well liked among fans. AC6's gameplay is gonna be somewhere between AC3 and AC4. But note that "AC3 and 4" is actually like 7 games -- each generation of AC games has a bunch of un-numbered sequels. The AC4 sequel "Armored Core: For Answer" is supposed to be one of the best games in the series so you might wanna go with that one, or alternately one of the Ps2 games like the first AC3 (supposed to be easy to get into) or AC:Nexus (the first ps2 game with proper analog stick aiming) here's the chart from the armored core thread on this very forum, which appears to have copied it from reddit, which appears to have copied it from 4chan:
