Even when they introduced Strangereal in 4 and retroactively pulled the first 3 games into that continuity, Air Combat (it actually wasn't called Ace Combat until 2) was made pretty unimportant.

I think part of it is that 2020 was the absolute worst time to release two new consoles, between the semiconductor shortage and COVID disrupting the supply chain, getting a PS5 felt like a gamble for like a year and a half, and it feels like a lot of people just gave up on the idea of being able to get one, even though we're at a point now where you can just walk into a store and buy one. The Xbox series also kinda has its own issues with the dwindling relevance of the Xbox as a console ecosystem, partly due to the still lingering effects of the Xbox One's disastrous launch and partly due to MS's own (in a way consumer friendly) practices of simultaneous PC releases and Game Pass.

I'm waiting for either a PS5 slim or something like that. I'd get the digital version for the hundo cheaper, but without like the option to get a disc drive later, I'm not comfortable with instantly consigning myself to only buying digital
