Jordan Peele movies are great and have the underlying tension that being a black person in America is a loving horror movie experience. I really love them. He also figured out how to correctly shoot non-white people in chiaroscuro lighting in a way that deserves its own academy award.it

huh I'd thought the outdoor night scenes were blue to contrast with the more-orangeish hue people have and the warm orange-lit indoor areas compared to the areas in the alien's domain so even though it symbolically kind of works, I was disappointed thinking it was just the overused blue/orange exaggerated thing movies do for contrast and didn't even realize it's blue in the first place bc they were just shooting in the day

Get Out was great and Nope was pretty good, but the “twist” in Us was so obvious I was surprised it was even presented as a twist Our daughter went underground and when she came out she doesn’t talk anymore! Also, there’s a whole underground world of everyone’s exact doppelgänger, the only identifiable difference being the doppelgängers don’t talk. Please do not put two and two together

I really liked Nope. The shots were great, the setting made better use of Socal nature than most movies about the entertainment industry, the cast had great chemistry and was really fun, and I thought the child star character was tragic and nicely nuanced. I think I like Us the least of his movies. There are a lot of cool moments and images, and the twist is pretty cool, but a lot of the "big moments" felt kind of forced and artificial to me. Like, I got the point of the final fight choreography, but I felt like it hadn't earned that level of theatricality if that makes sense.

That said apparently the writers weren't very surprised when it did and figured it was only a matter of time. (and they also get referenced by name in Nope, naturally) Also happens a few times on the Krusty the Clown show.
