Born To Be Wired was one of the first VHS wrestling tapes I ever ordered. That match is so absolutely insane, and I have probably watched it a million times. From that point on I was a huge fan of Funk, and he's easily one of the best to ever get in the ring. Him and Sabu put on a match so dangerous that Paul E never did a Barb Wire ring match again. Just an absolute legend in every way.

E: wow that gets squished weird. here ya go:

quote:

I was immediately put in a program with Dory Funk Jr., and the first time I ever met his brother Terry was when I was wrestling Junior at the Amarillo Fairgrounds. I knew that at some point in the match, Terry would jump in and attack me, but I had never met him because the heels and babyfaces had dressing rooms on either side of the building.

I was pounding on Junior, when suddenly there was a roar from the crowd. I looked up, and there was Terry in the process of jumping over the top rope. He missed, caught his foot,
and collapsed in the middle of the ring.

Junior just looked at me and deadpanned, "Meet my brother Terry."

Genuinely in my feels right now. Terry Funk was in my Top 3 wrestlemens, and hell I fully stand by the argument that Funk is/was the greatest American pro-wrestler we've ever seen to date. 50+ years of doing the drat thing, 20x various tag team champ, 25x various Heavyweight champ titles, countless awards...

This is on the level of Flair or Hogan passing away, but it's not going to get the mainstream recognition he deserves, in my opinion. But the REAL God Of Prowrestling is dead now :smith: Rest in peace you crazy old bastard.

Watch him be the best seller in the history of the business:

To this day I feel like Terry is what every wrestler should aspire to as a professional. Someone who just is so unselfish and because of that unselfishness he becomes even bigger and more loved. Also knew how to change with the times, knew how to stay fresh, the guy made ECW for me.

One of my all time favorite setups. So simple. I love how quickly he goes from “aw shucks, I was just kiddin” to loving murder mode. Just perfect.

I’ve been doing some wrestling writing and just rewatched Hardcore Heaven 94 and Kawasaki Dream in the past week because of the old Funker. This one stings a lot.

There are only 3 dudes from that era that I've never heard a bad personal word about and Terry's one of them.

the others are Steamboat and Bobby Eaton

Nothing's better than postin' in the morning!

I wouldn't be where I am today as a fan if I hadn't watched and rewatched The Rise And Fall of ECW and read all of Mick Foley's books in high school, all of which worked together to make Terry Funk out to be the coolest wrestler to ever do it. And honestly, they were right. Talk about a guy who did it all. When I finally watched those Funk vs. Cactus deathmatches I was not let down.
