Kids came out long after I graduated high school but I remember my sociology teacher senior year showing us a lot of movies and specials he had taped from TV because it was easier than teaching us sociology. Stuff like Geraldo Rivera interviewing Charles Manson.

He showed us a TV movie from 1972 called the Glass House. Alan Alda is a mild mannered guy who ends up in prison for murder but it was self defense. Gritty rear end movie, there was a gnarly scene where a certain bad thing you always hear about happening in prison happens to a younger inmate. I learned later it’s adapted from a Truman Capote novel. Apparently Billy Dee Williams is also in it but I don’t remember his character. And it was filmed in a real rear end prison with real inmates as extras. I’ve been morbidly curious about rewatching it at some point but it freaked me out even at 17.

Scenes I remember from Kids:

A lengthy scene with a group of very young boys passing a joint and swearing a lot. I got the feeling these were not actors but real actual hosed up children being exploited for the film.

One of the main characters wandering around the aftermath of the party drinking the dregs out of all the solo cups.

Two guys talking about how the one likes to gently caress underage girls while the other one sucks fruit juice out of a tampon and says he prefers his girls to have “mad flavor”

Also tampon kid is called Casper and at one point drunkenly does a rap about Casper "the dopest ghost you know".

The only thing I remember about Kids is that my perpetually hosed up drug addicted alcoholic ex loved it. I watched it once and that was enough.

For Sex Ed we watched the animated educational videos.

I also was interested in being a vet so my 4th grade teacher took me and a few other kids to watch her cat get spayed, and I learned how to pull a stuck calf in AG science when I was 17.

Turns out, I do not handle gore well IRL, but at least in an emergency I could technically do it.

I also remember our middle school teachers making sure to tell us girls...

"His erection will go away on its own, even if he says it won't unless you touch it."

So I took that advice to heart. There were definitely a bunch of dumb kids trying to show us thier boners.

Such is life.

This is literally the only part of the movie I remember, because it was cringe as gently caress.

I was in college when I saw it (non-mandatorily), and it barely made any impression on me at all.

in our last two weeks of senior year our english teacher asked the class for suggestions on a movie to watch. i suggested Pulp Fiction as a joke and her eyes lit up and said we were going to watch it without even letting the rest of the class make their suggestions. 17 years later i still have no idea why she thought that was a good idea but it owned

This has been my biggest takeaway from this thread. Everyone else seems to have watched it and thought it was dumb, goofy or bad, but apparently it really resonates with drug addicted alcoholics. I may be preemptive but it seems like a good litmus test.

No, my school mostly seemed free of trying to scare us straight. The closest they got was assigning depressing books about drugs and suicide in english lit, but I think that might just have been a side effect of half the books having to be Australian. Our literature scene was seemingly almost all maudlin navel gazing about addiction, suicide and rape in the 90s/2000s.

We did watch Mel Gibson's the Patriot like once a year in art class for some reason.

We never got to watch any movies. I just remember everyone writing questions they wanted to ask and we put them in a hat and the 3 female teachers (We combined 3 classes together for sex-ed) answered them.

Most of them were all asking if they enjoyed anal sex. Surprisingly they all answered that they all tried it - but tried to answer it in a professional way which probably ruined all the horned up middle schoolers boners.

hmmmm.

The film follows Adam, a directionless 16-year-old living in the working class town of Marfa, Texas, and his sexual relationships with his teenage girlfriend, twenty-something neighbor, an aggressive local artist, and his pregnant high school teacher, while an unhinged, misogynistic border patrol agent watches over the neighborhood. What ensues is a web of sex, drugs, and violence as the Latino skater punks adjust to their gritty, aimless life in the dead end town.[2][3]
