Qud is 1. a roguelike and 2. the best roguelike it’s procedurally generated in the same vein as ADOM, with a somewhat fixed world map and major locations

Does getting intrinsic teleportitis overwrite teleport control? More than once now I swear I've got the control intrinsic but when a pool gets me jumping around I can't do anything about it.

It does not. If you're messing with pools the "you feel controlled" message is for stun resistance, "feel like jumping around" is tele control. Dick game.

I was getting the intrinsic from blink dogs, and I made a point of eating another one but got rid of teleportitis anyways because the constant interruptions are annoying as hell. This run is going very well. xl24, crowned with Silence of the Dead and fire immunity, got the fire orb and an amulet of life saving and a load of intrinsics. If I knew what I was doing I could probably just dive the CoC for a normal win at this point, but I don't know what I'm doing so I'm wandering around trying to find potions to deal with my artificial aging problem. what the hell, the minotaur maze was worse than I could've imagined. Stone statues, they spawn peacefully in the middle but turn hostile every time you pick something up, use an item, or cast a spell, and then new ones immediately spawn where they were standing. Luckily I'm a wizard who just gave Rolf my good weapon.

130 hours later, it is finished.  Got lucky with an aligned altar on the puppy cave cavern, crowned with Far Slayer and fire immunity at xl 11. Inventory managing 15 different types of quarrels is hell, but I was planning on getting the early rune-covered trident anyways so I went all-in on ranged talents after getting the ones for PV and speed. Big stupid thing I did this run was clear a black dragon vault without bothering to drop everything that might get melted. It took my teleport wand and staff of purification and gave me nothing. Wishes used for bracers of resistance, rings of regeneration, an amulet of life saving, and replacements for the aforementioned staff and wand. Getting anywhere in ADOM is a process of finding the landmines and avoiding them the next time, and a lot of wiki diving. I lost late game dudes before this to the banshee, cat lord, stone ooze, room full of ghost kings, and that surprise titan swarm. All of my criticisms about this game still stand but I unironically love it now. Top 5 roguelike.

Beat Andor Drakan, went with a gray elf wizard after getting enough farmers killed to unlock the big temple and wound up just rolling over the whole game. Two cool new artifacts: unpick axe is guaranteed if you go through the huge trouble of unlocking Rolfs fortress, but it's a unbreakable pickaxe that can freaking create walls. Potion belt makes potions weightless, immune to destruction, and dippable in bigger stacks so you can get a lot of good poo poo from exchange potions. Time for a break for real. This game has a lot of bs in it and it's really tedious in way too many places, but it feels like a grand adventure in a way that Nethack and Crawl don't quite get to.

I'm probably not going to try for an ultimate win, feels like a lot of work. Maybe if some lunatic picks ADOM for game club. I'm giving Dungeonmans another shot, the constant stupid humor is annoying but there seems to be a competent game underneath.

I found this dude's channel full of ADOM challenge runs https://www.youtube.com/@SerialDownvoter/videos I noticed that many of his message prompts are actually useful. Corruption is color coded purple, pool intrinsic prompts are actually spelled out, etc.. Apparently there's an 'adom.msg' file you can edit with regex and crap to make the game suck less. Would've been nice to know a few weeks ago.

There's a 3DS Angband port that I've been meaning to play. ADOM Steam version was in a humble bundle a while back so there's a lot of spare keys floating around. Reseller sites have it for <$1. Being able to pick your star sign is worth that.

second win came a lot easier. First pool I found gave invisibility and paralyzation+stun+fire res for the low price of dooming. I was right near Dwarftown so getting rid of doom was easy and safe (and tedious). Got crowned with ring of immunity and the casino had boots of the far messenger and at that point there was nothing I couldn't punch through or run away from. I spent the whole run in the ancient mummy wrap. Monk's class powers are awesome but in the end I missed have a big blessed weapon for killing liches and balors. Maybe I should've just used the RCT again? Achievement hunting is in full swing so I made a point of getting the cat ring, needle+sting, and diving to ID:100. Now I'm thinking about doing Iron Man (straight dive the ID for the Chaos Scepter and then leave).

Was playing DCSS and somehow when I was trying to leave the swamp the lair floor that contained the swamp entrance got replaced with a duplicate copy of swamp 1. Am I just hosed now? This is literally the first time I've survived long enough as a felid to get a rune.

anyone play rogue fable 3? I like a lot about the game but I feel super weak late game and the (not) optional dungeons will mess you up if you're a caster and rng draw the clockwork levels with the war engines

I could never really get into angband- something about not having any time pressure and no limit on how safe you can play just makes me feel like every death was avoidable, but not in a fun way

I like the idea of an infinite big sprawling dungeon with a ton of stuff to pick up, in practice it's not so great filling up your inventory multiple times in a single level and trying to figure out what to leave behind forever. I think I'm about to hit the same wall I always do where the game really wants me to have certain abilities (right now, see invisible and confusion resistance?) and I'm going to get bored to death looking for that.
