great tree. I spent many hours back in the day playing angband variants. ToME was especially fun for its weapons that could level up with you. i think frogcomposband kinda stopped after its maintainer ragequit, but apparently its github still has recent commits. Hengband introduced a lot of neat ideas as a zangband variant, and has new version in the works (v3 in alpha) the past couple years.
