I'm planning on the following. 1-3 episode trial: Bullbuster - Pretty sure we've all made the jokes already with it being made by a studio called NUT. But it does look like it might be a funny office comedy crossed with a mech show, so why not? What gives me caution is that we hadn't seen a drat thing about it up until just a few days ago, and the CG mech looked a bit bargain basement. But that might not matter for the overall show. We'll just have to see. Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijou (The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch) - I dunno. It lust looks like a silly program with a mess of fanservice thrown in. Not going to be sad if the show turns out to be underwhelming. Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon - Vampire lesbians (in bondage?) leading an entire company of tsundere. Maybe there will be more to it. Maybe I won't care. Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou (I'm in Love with the Villainess) - This one also looks silly, and it will be fun to watch the "villainess" deal with the anime equivalent of a masochistic Pepe Le Pew. "If you're going to step on me, step on me harder!" Yes, m'am! Going to watch: 16bit Sensation: Another Layer - I read the manga for this, and the nostalgia for 90's computer tech is enough to make me want to see where this goes. Shangri-La Frontier - I read the manga for this, too. There's three shows this season that can get an elevator pitch of "What if BOFURI, but X?" and this is the one that doesn't replace X with "even more boring and badly animated." The protagonist is the sort of person who loves to play crappy games for the challenge of beating them. The kind of gamer who'd play Bethesda games unmodded. Who'd play "Cyberpunk 2077" or "No Man's Sky" before they were patched. Who'd play RIDE TO HELL: RETRIBUTION and finish it. There's probably guys like that in the Games subforum right now. Pity them. Looks and sounds great, only drawback is sections of the manga can get a bit tedious with multi-chapter battles against monsters with increasing "THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM!" moments, and I'm hoping the animation makes them enjoyable. (This one should get a .)Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries) - Another show that looks and sounds gorgeous. I'm not normally interested in period dramas, but this just feels too good to pass up. Spy x Family Season 2 - If your complaint was that Yor got shortchanged with the second half of season 1, you'll be over-the-moon this season. No notes, outstanding comedy mixed with heartwarming slice-of-life and kickass 60's-style espionage action. Welcome back, Forgers, we missed you. (EDIT: I almost forgot, I'll be looking forward to the movie come this December as well.) And last, but in no way shape or form least: Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) - I've been reading the manga for about a year and a half now, and it's not just one of my favorite comics of this decade, it's my favorite fantasy story of all time. If you have not read the manga yet, I envy you, as you will get to see this wonderful, beautiful, melancholy yet life-affirming tale with fresh eyes and ears. Much of it is slow and contemplative, so not everyone will necessarily like it. But for myself, having recently lost both my parents in the space of less than a year to age, infirmity, and illness, this story of carrying on when loved ones have gone can hit like a sledgehammer. I've been rewatching Eminence In Shadow in preparation for the new season and I forgot how much fun it is. It could have easily been lovely and annoying if it'd taken itself too seriously or tried to be too jokey but it strikes a really nice balance

This is an odd season for me because I'll be trying no less than 12 shows but there's not one of them I feel I'm definitely going to stick with. These first 3 weeks are going to be chaotic and exciting. Sousou no Frieren: The obvious, broad-appeal one. I didn't vibe with the manga very much personally but I did feel it had potential and with Keiichirō Saitō (Bocchi the Rock!) directing I feel I owe myself to check it out. Uma Musume S3: It's Uma Musume! S2 was so much better than it had any right to be and I'm curious if they can make the lightning strike twice. 16bit Sensation: I have no idea what this is going to be like in practice but the premise alone has me in on ground floor. Arknights S2: Weirdly low expectations for this one even though S1 was decent as an adaptation. But as long as they don't gently caress up the stronger parts of the source material there should be some bits to really look forward to. Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon: My yuri pick for the season. Not that I know anything about it. Hope it doesn't embarrass me I guess? Kibou no Chikara: Otona Precure '23: I haven't actually seen the precure this is a sequel to but anything with adult magical girls has my attention immediately. So here's hoping it'll work well enough as a standalone thing. Hoshikuzu Telepath: My actual yuri pick for the season. Bounced off the manga a few times but I want to give it a more earnest shot. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: The premise seems interesting and moreover it is rather gorgeous. This one could be a hit. Pluto: The manga was brilliant enough that I'm kinda unclear on what adapting it to animation could even possibly add, but maybe re-experiencing a great story is worth it for its own sake. iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors: Yeah I don't think this one will be worth much but Shiny Colors does seem to have some cool characters and I wanna see if any of them will show up at least Bokura no Ameiro Protocol: My dark horse pick for the season. Compared to other video game anime, this one seems much more focused on the material and emotional realities of being a guy who plays games competitively for money. While I'm not so optimistic as to expect 3-Gatsu no Lion: Gamer Edition, something about the aesthetic and premise makes me oddly excited for it. My intuition generally doesn't steer me totally wrong, so... Bikkurimen: Ok so I've kind of bamboozled myself into watching this one but look, the lead writer is none other than Yuniko Ayana of BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! fame and frankly I'm just curious how ms. "my life's work is yuri" approaches writing a kids' show about stickers being the most important thing in the universe

Excited for the Maomao and Pluto adaptations. The S-Rank Daughter manga is fun and cute but a lot of its charm is in its scratchy artstyle and blobby faces and the anime really isn't making any attempt to replicate that. Still a fun story with fun characters, but I'm a bit disappointed since I was looking forward to that and hadn't seen the PV yet.

Pluto and apothecary diaries for sure, maybe frieren too. Anything else is likely all at once when the season's done. Kinda just want to watch epic 52+ ep shows from the 90s atm.

The Ragna Crimson manga is a pure  rollercoaster of batshit insane action, deserving of a sakuga spectacular on par with One-Punch Man S1. It's not especially evident from pre-release information that that's what it'll be getting, though.Regarding S-Rank Daughter, can some of its fans ITT tell us where it actually goes with its premise? Checked out A Girl and Her Guard Dog. I dunno. It’s a cute shoujo, so I’ll excuse a lot, but a 26 year old man posing as a high schooler and practically raising the girl, who’s now a new high schooler and loves him romantically feels like a sketch premise. If it doesn’t end a certain way, it almost feels like grooming. But I dunno, maybe I’m taking it too seriously.
