Losing some relief guys = won't miss Stanek or Maton. Neris will get a closer job somewhere. Losing him will suck

moving this out of the playoff thread and into here because this is where it belongs

Stanek, I don't care. Maton had a big year but he's a lot like Montero in that he reeks of regression. Neris still has a year left on a player option, but I guess it's possible he tries to go get a closer job somewhere yeah. Still gonna have Abreu and Pressly so it's not the end of the world, and hell we lost Billy Wagner and Octavio Dotel and still had a light out bullpen right up until.... The Incident

Brantley barely even played so even though he had some big hits down the stretch it's not the end of the world, especially given how he just straight up vanished in the ALCS. Pretty slim pickings in the OF free agency market though and we just traded the only outfield prospect worth a poo poo we had that could conceivably be ready in 2024

Guriel I guess. Joc is a clubhouse cancer, don't want him running high stakes pai gow games in the locker room at 3 am on a getaway day.

AFAIK only comp picks are tradeable and I don't think the Yankees have any of those. They could trade some of their international bonus pool I think?

You also can't trade a player just for cash. Best you can do is take on a bad contract for the other team. I don't think there's a good match between the Yankees and Padres in that arena.

Realistically the Yankees don't have the collection of young talent to compete in a trade market for Soto, if the Padres decide to move him. Yankees fans are basically wishcasting that the Padres will maybe just do the Yankees a solid.

I believe they changed the rules so all picks are tradeable even right after the draft?

how do you trade a draft pick after the draft?

You can trade players, not draft picks. The only exception as someone mentioned is some subset of comp picks.

ah that's what I meant lol, that they changed it from trading the freshly drafted player after a year to right away so you don't get the PTBNL shenanigans anymore

guess I misunderstood the post I was quoting, conflated draft picks with freshly drafted players
