It took a while to tweak this av to fit the filesize cap w/o it looking like total rear end and it was annoying so I am pleased by this news

Lots of dropped frames from the original file to make it look this good. I no longer have Photoshop, but I think I still have the original frames and large file avatar somewhere. It’d be like a 4K restoration if I find the OG stuff.

It only makes a difference for animated gifs. And for that it barely makes a difference. Like you can have 9 high quality frames instead of 6. If you really want to make a difference, they should allow .webm's.

The average HDD size was about 20GB in the year 2000. Now in 2023 standard storage size in new computers is typically 2TB, a 100x increase. Therefore the max avatar size should now be 150MB. e: sorry I'm dumb, 100x is only 15MB but still the point is that 250KB is way too stingy!
